Just seen on Instagram that PS is stepping down with immediate effect from This morning!
I mean, I'm not that bothered but there's been lots of speculation recently re his brother's conviction and the rumoured spat with Holly but I thought it would probably all blow over.
I'm sure he's got a bob or two is loaded but I'm still a bit surprised if I'm honest.

Who is this mysterious "they" of whom you speak? The media comprises individual businesses that are competitive. They don't together decide to announce or not annouce a death!

The newpaper itself and the broadcasters themselves decide what is the top story. That is why different papers have different front pages.

I really wonder when people post stuff like this if they live in a world where all the editors of all media are in some sort conspiracy pact!

Im guessing they delayed it so there wasnt a press prescence or members of the public rocking up to the funeral or the cemetery where it could have kicked off.

@Lemieux3 it's remarkable how differently people recollect these things. It sounds like you grew up in a very different cultural milieu to others on this thread. I'm a bit jealous! Section 28 was just about still going strong when I was at school. In fact, there was fierce debate across all sections of the media, religious institutions, political parties, etc. Loads and loads of people lobbying vociferously in favour of keeping it in place. Quite the hostile environment, to coin a phrase. I'm not sure what people gain by retrospectively playing down the lived experience (and documented history) of others. Hey ho, each to their own.

Yes, I'm not going to disagree because I know that some areas are massively different than others. I have seen that with attitudes to Brexit as well.

On the Russell T Davies show 'it's a sin' set in the 80s and 90s, they reference PS being gay. It was filmed before he came out on TV. So obviously it was known in the tv world for decades. Extremely strange 'coming out' in these circumstances.

I don’t think Piers was accusing anyone else of serious crimes though. It sounded more like the low level, not nice, thinks they’re a big deal type stuff.
