Just seen on Instagram that PS is stepping down with immediate effect from This morning!
I mean, I'm not that bothered but there's been lots of speculation recently re his brother's conviction and the rumoured spat with Holly but I thought it would probably all blow over.
I'm sure he's got a bob or two is loaded but I'm still a bit surprised if I'm honest.

I think when a super injunction exist, it's existence cannot be mentioned at all on line or in the media. You literally wouldn't know it was there as an ordinary member of the public. That's why it a super injunction.
An ordinary injunction is where you can refer to the existence of an injunction although I think they are anonymised ,but you can't publish any of the personal information to which it refers.
This is why newspapers will run side by side stories with one saying an injunction exits for an unnamed celebrity, who is an actor or footballer etc, the other story will be an innocuous fluff piece about said celebrity going to a film premiere or the races or something. There will be nothing actionable in the story which names the celebrity but it's a hint because the story itself isn't on its own, newsworthy

It’s the Streisand Effect isn’t it? The harder you try to hide it the more obvious it becomes.

The super-injunction only cover U.K. press. So other countries are still able to report about it. That’s likely where it’s come from.

Have you heard about it?

Well that's rubbish because everyone knew there was one in place for his lordship from Downton Abbey before his name was ever made public

ImAvingOops · 23/05/2023 10:23

Well it's not rubbish. Injunctions are mostly anonymised but it's the super injunctions which give the extra layer of secrecy, whereby its existence at all can't be mentioned.
People gossip, those who know the people concerned will be aware of embarrassing stories they'd like to keep hidden from the public. The press know but can't directly allude to it, so hint in the papers and give clues. They tell you without telling you. And eventually I think injunctions run out (although not sure about that).
There are also NDAs, where someone has been paid not to go public. And no one else can say anything publicly because it's not provable without the person who signed the NDA going public.

ImAvingOops · 23/05/2023 10:25

I personally think injunctions are pointless to hide stuff like affairs - it's just kicking the can down the road and the people who matter to you will know anyway. I suspect celebrities do it because they don't want their kids reading about their mucky behaviour, whereas it would serve those kids much better if their parent just behaved themselves.

CabbagePatchDole

That is so sad. I am the same age as PS and when I was young thought I was living in enlightened times. You would sometimes see male lovers holding hands in the street etc.

I don't know if you remember the red top headlines, but there was the infamous "Poofs in the Pulpit," from the News of the World and the Sun was just as bad.

They had scurrilous stories about gay vicars, politicians and others in the public eye.

The letters pages were full of, "Eurrgh, disgusting! Ought to be sacked and jailed! Don't want them near my kids" bumptious outrage.

Lemieux3 · 23/05/2023 11:58

Just because some people are shameless bigots, it doesn't mean that the whole of the UK population was. Homophobia was and still is a problem but if you read the Sun etc, you're asking for drivel.

My recollection of prejudice towards gay men in the 80s/90s was more focussed on blaming homosexual men for the HIV virus and assuming that all gay people have it - which still happens now tbh.

Wanderingowl · 23/05/2023 13:53

Just saw this on youtube. I don't find Francis Foster all that funny (though I chuckled a bit at some of this) but it's interesting how bold people are getting.

😂😂

LaffTaff · 23/05/2023 15:50

There was a very high profile musician who took out a super injunction a few years back to prevent lurid details being made public about his husband's extramarital frolics. The dogs in the street knew who it was, so the idea that these injunctions are water tight is nonsense.

Pools of baby oil iirc 🤦‍♀️😅

StraightOuttaContext · 23/05/2023 16:46

@Lemieux3 it's remarkable how differently people recollect these things. It sounds like you grew up in a very different cultural milieu to others on this thread. I'm a bit jealous! Section 28 was just about still going strong when I was at school. In fact, there was fierce debate across all sections of the media, religious institutions, political parties, etc. Loads and loads of people lobbying vociferously in favour of keeping it in place. Quite the hostile environment, to coin a phrase. I'm not sure what people gain by retrospectively playing down the lived experience (and documented history) of others. Hey ho, each to their own.

I'm surprised Francis Foster hasn't been sued for that!

Newnamenewname109870 · 23/05/2023 16:14

Well who is it?

Didn't know about the husband! The high profile musician had an alleged dodgy reputation way back.

dayswithaY · 23/05/2023 19:40

I think the husband lives quite an “independent” life, shall we say. Papers hinted at it for years.

Didn’t Ryan Giggs have a super injunction until it was mentioned in Parliament and then we were all allowed to talk about it.

Looks like whatever Phil had in place he’s wasted his money, as doesn’t everyone know about “the runner”?

Wombastic · 23/05/2023 19:44

The DM was openly talking about mm yesterday.

PenelopeTitsDrop3121 · 23/05/2023 20:02

I wonder if they purposely delayed announcing Harris' death to keep PS in the headlines?

MaudGone · 23/05/2023 20:28

What was the "reputation" of the high-profile singer? Drugs, promiscuity, or something darker?
