Anyone been following this madness? A thread popped up on my feed today about how JM asked for people to PayPal her cash donations last year to take 3 people to court for slander and libel. It’s now passed the date of when she was able to bring this to court and no sign of any money being returned.

Just seems completely bizarre to me, and now I’ve fallen down a rabbit hole and seems this is in no way the first time.

I suppose anything's possible, but you'd have to have money to burn to waste £13.50 per ticket just to get up her nose.
She tweeted it as if it were fact ie the Sub rooms had confirmed 'Mr Smith bought 50 tickets and no one showed up'. I know for a fact it wasn't a sold out event, and it's inevitable there will be some no shows due to illness etc.
So i think it's cobblers tbh

I just read the Guardian article linked at the start of the thread which seems a fair and good summary. She doesn't seem to appreciate the law however - if you take money for a purpose it needs to be used for that etc. - I don't think having ADHD or being autistic as she says she is is an excuse for following the law or not. Yes she might be bad at paperwork and organisation and doing things on time eg being very very very late for the Guardian photoshoot is very very very rude particularly as she has been sober for 18 months. It is no good saying she cried all the way there many hours late. If you think you will not be there on time then you go 4 hours early and wait in a nearby cafe - you don't fall asleep and destroy the day of the photographer, journalist, your agent etc etc. It is just selfish.

The Guardian article was quite subtly catty. Simon Hattenstone is brilliant.

Monroe was 90% a Guardian-liberal media creation, who looked and sounded ‘cool’. I didn’t buy it (as with Markle) but the truth is also that can end up spending benefits on your rent because of private housing benefit shortfall - something Munroe correctly mentions. It doesn’t matter how many food banks you visit or cheap spaghetti bolognese you rustle up or lighting you supposedly turn off, you’ll never cover that rent shortfall. It’s a shock to face that kind of reality BUT at least she was physically healthy, she could get a job and she had an involved father/ex partner. So …..

Food is relatively cheap in this country. It’s finding somewhere at a reasonable rent to live that’s SO, SO hard and expensive espnin the south. A few packets of cheap pasta is never going to solve THAT, but it suits the shallow liberal l-gullibles non-thinking, virtue-signalling agenda.

Is the law really that clear-cut on Go Fund Me, Patreon and the other donation/sub websites? There are some massive issues with some of these sites and huge naivety on the part of the public as to what they can expect their payments to be used for,

Paying webcontent via Patreon is probably not a case of anyone being misled here. Go Fund Me if she gathered money for a legal action but then it was used for something else sounds deceptive to me, misrepresentation or something like that, obtaining money by deception but I have not read her Go fund me webpage.

These are the lies that baffle me the most. The ones that are so easy to disprove and that don't even serve any purpose. I guess she is just some kind of compulsive liar??

I have never understood how or why she fell into such extreme poverty after being brought up in a decent middle class family. Her dad received an MBE for his services as a foster carer and also works as a firefighter. I find it hard to understand why a pillar of the community like that would let his daughter and grandchild struggle to the extent she describes.

The name change was probably to distance herself from the truth and spare the embarrassment to her family. She is basically an actress playing the part of Jack Monroe.

Honestly? I don’t think she ever was in extreme poverty. I think she wrote a story one day and ran with it.

Looking at her background she was never destitute. She just played the lord of us for fools.

What annoys me the most about that is that some women will have ended up in poverty in that situation, single parent at a young age and gay, you can see how some parents could just kick their child out of the door. But parents who had been foster carers? Who had money? I just can’t see it. Obviously I don’t know her family or what they are like but I just can’t imagine parents who have devoted their lives to helping others allowing their child and grandchild to be living in such poverty.

Donations went into her personal PayPal and not a gofundme which would have been transparent about the amount raised. She got snakry when this was raised at the time and even had celebs like Ralk Little defending her taking donations in that way.

I’ve been reading the slopalong threads this morning and I’m quite cross about it. The recipes simply don’t work, the portion sizes are insufficient for toddlers and the photos she uses are most definitely not of the ingredients she’s claimed to use.

Like many middle class people, I’ve never actually tried any of the recipes so I just assumed that they were cheap and cheerful but potentially produced actual meals.

Turns out it’s grift all the way down. And the media who’ve been lauding her for all the good she’s done for ‘the poor’ are doing so on the assumption that the recipes are ok rather than actually checking to make sure that she’s not just been scamming in every single way throughout.
