Jack Monroe and the missing money.

Anyone been following this madness? A thread popped up on my feed today about how JM asked for people to PayPal her cash donations last year to take 3 people to court for slander and libel. It’s now passed the date of when she was able to bring this to court and no sign of any money being returned.

Just seems completely bizarre to me, and now I’ve fallen down a rabbit hole and seems this is in no way the first time.

That Jack Monroe is a scammer is not surprising - look at how she raises money for starters. "I'm going to sue (insert name of someone who called her a scammer, hopefully a Tory), please donate" (link to her personal paypal account). Breadcrumb a few posts about the "team of paralegals" that are working 24/7 on your case. Do this for a few weeks, then radio silence. If anyone raises it, say your lawyer(s) are working on it, but you can't say any more. Then never mention it again.
Terribly inconvenient if people remember and start asking awkward questions like:
How much did you raise?
Where is the money?
What are you going to do with the money?
She has been asked these questions and more over the last week or so, and has blocked everyone who asked. She has not answered any of the legitimate questions.
She is the definition of a pathological liar. She lies for no gain whatsoever, and she lies to get money. She lies about easily disproven things, she lies to make herself look good (or so she thinks). She lies for sympathy, she lies to evade responsibility. She lies when her earlier lies have been disproved.

That people are so emotionally invested in defending her is bizarre. If you are that person, just ask yourself one question - why would any honest person running a fundraiser not have a ring-fenced, transparent account of the monies raised?

I feel for her bs a while ago. It was this thing she wrote about how her little boys shoes were too small but she couldn't afford to buy him some new ones in the shop, so took him to be measured and then went home to buy some the right size on ebay, but then found she was blocked on ebay as she hadn't paid fees from the last time she'd sold something. I was so upset at the thought of that little boy with no fitting shoes, and I really didn't have money to give when I gave it.

Since then I have found out that the little boy appears to live with his father and his new partner, not with Jack. That she is from a very middle class family (her dad has an OBE and inherited a property portfolio) and that it is very strange that her son had no shoes when she has admitted she buys multiple designer handbags and collects vivienne westwood clothing.....as someone said upthread, i've learnt its better to give money to those around you who need it rather than someone you don't really know on social media

Jack Monroe is a fraud and a grifter and needs to pay back the money she owes.

So which other crowd funders and patreons are you wishing to talk about?

The thing with JM and MN is that many of the posters here are women who are trying to feed a family, and do it on a limited budget. Many women here have been in a position that she claims to have been in. There are many single parents who have been on the breadline, who have worried about how to feed their children, who have missed meals themselves to make sure their children are fed. They are, understandably, pissed off by what they see as someone 'cosplaying' at poverty. It seems that she has taken the very real life situation of some posters here and used it for her own ends.

They aren't as pissed off at other people because it's not their life they are pretending to have.

While I do agree that there are pile ons, it is for a good reason, to get people to see JM for who she really is. Unlike some other people who there are constant threads about on here, like Philip Scofield for example, they haven't tried to get money off poor people.

Judging by the previous occasions in which she’s behaved like this (been manic, solicited windmill-tilting donations, gone quiet, been gently questioned about ££) the next thing is her “needing a break” from Twitter / posing in a headscarf apparently bald and eyebrow-less and alluding to health issues and specialists / changing gender. And repeat.

That's dreadful, and not even how eBay works. If I sell something for £10 and the fee is £1 then I don't pay eBay the £1, they take it off the £10 directly.

And this is the prefect example, another woman who couldn't afford it giving the little that she could manage.

Didn't she do an AMA on here a few years ago? I don't think she was too impressed with the responses.

Jack’s vanity was injured by the fact that the event wasn’t packed out. This is the explanation she came up with, because her narcissism is such that she could not accept that it was simply undersold.

The same way she tweeted about not being recognised when she was described as “guest” in Daily Mail photos of an event 😂

I'm autistic and ADHD and I absolutely relate to the feelings of being frozen, problems with task initiation and finishing tasks and it MAY be a factor in some of Monroe's problems.

However, if you read the Guardian article she bosts herself about how she drank a bottle and a half of whisky and took up to 40 tramadol a day. I know people with ADHD have higher rates of addiction but think of how much money she has spent on drink and drugs over the years. She also said she had a shopping addiction so a lot of money disappeared there too. She said what she did was not illegal as her defence but said she had abused the goodwill of her backers.

She has a history e-begging and not delivering goods lasting several years, the money for suing 30p Lee was just the most recent.

She can't keep blaming her ADHD/ mental health/ addiction/ crumbling bones and other physical maladies for her unethical behaviour.

Or possibly she can't refund because it's up her nose. She admitted that she spent lots of it on cocaine and expensive furniture.

She can and does blame poor mental health, or neurodiversity, for her actions (which is appalling for those with mental health conditions or who are autistic/have ADHD) but I’ve witnessed recently what strongly looks like her sock accounts on Twitter and it shows her true self. Not a hint of remorse and very much “blame the game, not the player” attitude - to quote her actual words. Her behaviour is vile, truly awful and beyond excusing.

I really struggle to believe a single thing this woman says. Every woeful story seems constructed for maximum victimhood, and she adds a new story or excuse every time she’s asked a reasonable question about her many contradictions and history rewrites. She’s always recognised by everyone around her as being the smartest, wittiest, most special - but oh no! - something completely out of her control has happened to stop anything tangible as proof emerging. Rather like the lack of proof of these death threats she claims to receive. Very embarrassing that the Guardian journalist didn’t ask for these screenshots for the article.

It seems like this time the lies have caught up to her.

Yeah, that’s all she mentioned in the article. Anything else is just rumour.

The troll bulk buying of tickets. Is that really a realistic scenario? I can't quite imagine people who dislike her chucking away their hard earned cash simply to shame her. I think Occam's Razor applies here, tbh.

I hope her boy is OK and doesn't see all the shit that goes down on Twitter.

The blaming her repeated terrible on adhd and mental health makes it worse. Loads of people have adhd and/or all sorts of serious MH conditions and manage just fine not to scam people out of loads of money.

People can make mistakes, get things wrong, have all sorts of issues. But Munro repeatedly does this and shows absolutely no remorse.

My hypothesis is that, regardless what mental health or neurodevelopmental conditions Munro has, she’s also just not very nice.

Who is it that's sending her money? Like, what demographic of people?

Maybe it's just me, but I can't imagine ever sending £10 to a stranger on the internet!

Yeah, I remember her popping up one evening/night, completely out of the blue (i.e. not arranged with MNHQ), and did her own 'AMA' on Chat or AIBU. That was many years ago.

If it was in Chat it may have disappeared.
