Jack Monroe and the missing money.

Anyone been following this madness? A thread popped up on my feed today about how JM asked for people to PayPal her cash donations last year to take 3 people to court for slander and libel. It’s now passed the date of when she was able to bring this to court and no sign of any money being returned.

Just seems completely bizarre to me, and now I’ve fallen down a rabbit hole and seems this is in no way the first time.

Seems like Jack went to the Jameela Jamil school of exaggeration

DarrellRiversCriminalBehaviourOrder · 22/05/2023 19:08

Perhaps she thinks that if she properly tests and repeats her recipes, someone will say she must be wasting food (although I imagine that professional cookery writers don't actually chuck food away unless they make something truly inedible, which doesn't seem likely).

Or maybe I'm crediting her with far too much thought process.

IncomingTraffic · 22/05/2023 19:11

If she were as poor as she claims to be, and her recipes that good and nutritious (as she claims), she surely wouldn’t fear eating the same thing for a week running so that she can properly test her recipes to ensure they work.

WisherWood · 22/05/2023 19:13

I'm not sure I'd want to eat rinsed spaghetti hoops for a week. Although, thinking about it, it might make a good crash diet.

Perhaps JM's next book should be a guide to losing weight.

IncomingTraffic · 22/05/2023 19:17

Having to eat the sodding thing for a week would make you think carefully about whether it’s a recipe you should be passing on to other people though.

Having to actually consume the rinsed spaghetti hoops would definitely focus your mind on ensuring that the recipe was edible.

littleripper · 22/05/2023 20:52

The arrogance of it all makes me furious. Delia spent years and years weighing and checking and measuring. Replying to every complaint and ensuring that recipes still worked when oven settings/availability of ingredients changed. JM thinks she can waltz in just 'make recipes' - it's obnoxious.

BUT

My DB called JM "Trans-poor" much to our hilarity. But he had a point. Britians middle and upper classes - especially the highly educated types who write for the Guardian and choose who is going on Daytime TV find real poor people hard to cope with. Are they worthy enough? Do they deserve sympathy? Might they be a bit Brexity? Fat? god knows what they might do. What you need is a nice tattooed, trans-poor person, someone who ticks your boxes but has a middle class girlfriend and a nice accent and a lovely way about them.

JM is a liar and a fraud but she has been propelled into fame by people who have made a LOT of money - a damn site more than her - and should know better.

I think you've nailed it. We still very much have a mindset of deserving and undeserving poor and a lot of genuinely impoverished people aren't what the media is looking for when it comes to positive representation. Monroe got it bang on and her persona wasn't "messy" in that regard.

Off topic, but someone mentioned Jameela Jamil and now I want to know what happened to her! she’s not on Twitter anymore is she?

She chucked her toys out her pram when Elon bought Twitter. Before that she'd labelled lots of women awful things, posed in a photo with Jamie / Danielle Muscato, Muscato later in trouble for sexual assault.

Unicorn2022 · 23/05/2023 08:58

Jameela has also been accused of having Munchausens, claiming all sorts of non proven conditions such as partial deafness as a child, having cancer twice, being left wheelchair-bound in one of two car accidents, developing allergies to foods due to mercury poisoning from tooth fillings and losing a tooth and breaking an elbow" on set, along with Ehler-Danlos syndrome.

She also claims she has changed several laws and global policies but there is no proof of this.

I think she just lives in cloud cuckoo land.

Ostryga · 23/05/2023 09:10

Oh yeah if you have Insta and want to have a gander at JJ’s claims Tracie Morrisey has a whole highlight reel about it. Very mind-boggling!

Celebrity is a drug, they get addicted to the attention and (false) sense of relevance. Must be particularly tough for the 'judges' in the contest shows where there's the constant fear that you'll be overtaken by the success of one of the contestants (which explains a lot about Simon Cowell).

Clymene · 23/05/2023 12:55

Ah yes, Jameela Jamil and her spinal injury caused by running into traffic chased by a bee on Hampstead High Street Grin

This is a good summary (and lots of links) slate.com/culture/2020/02/jameela-jamil-munchausen-accusations-bees-ehlers-danlos-explained.html

DogInATent · 23/05/2023 12:57

I just read her Wiki page and I'm exhausted... caught myself thinking, wow - so much has happened in her life, and then I realised I still hadn't got to the end of the primary school paragraph.

TorviShieldMaiden · 23/05/2023 20:12

JJ also claimed to be non-binary at one point I think. Or pansexual or both.

LolaSmiles · 23/05/2023 20:31

Wasn't Jameela Jamil the person who said them and a celeb friend were chased around town by swarms of bees and when the other person was asked about it they said "I don't think so. I think 2 or 3 bees flew past us"?

Lunde · 23/05/2023 22:08

JM seems to be permanently identity shopping - constantly on the lookout for new "causes" to become her audience and source of attention. So far she has blogged about or marketed towards issues of

  • poverty - with the initial "girl called Jack" blog - strange that her award winning foster carer parents offered their child/grandchild no support and that she has money for private rehab and spendy influencer stuff
  • single parent - won a Gingerbread award yet her son's father has always been involved and her ex is the residential parent
  • gender politics - has at various times claimed to be lesbian, bi, trans, non-binary etc
  • working class hero - has accepted awards for being working class despite a seemingly middle class upbringing
  • neurodiversity/disability - have lost count of the number of conditions she claims to have
  • spendy influencer - poses with/blogs about high end, designer make-up, jewelry, clothes especially Vivienne Westwood plus the entire Cotswold furniture catalogue including several sideboards and a 14 seat dining table - yet at the same time claims to be boiling soap for shower get
  • travel blogger with international trips
  • addiction - has posted about AA meetings and photos of (Canadian) sobriety chips for alcohol and cocaine
  • media/journalism - has blogged about hanging out at the Groucho Club and dated a C4 exec
24KaratCucumber · 24/05/2023 17:55

I think everything she declares herself to be is designed purely to distract from cricism and to use as a 'Get out of jail free' card.

Can't critise me, I'm ADHD, are you anti neurodiverse?
Can't criticise me, I'm Non Binary, are you transphobic?
Can't criticise me, I'm disabled, are you ableist?
Can't criticise me, I'm a lesbian, are you homophobic?

So on and so on and so on.
Just rinse and repeat when someone asks questions.

Florenz · 24/05/2023 18:00

She is an idiot and she needs to go away.
