Anyone been following this madness? A thread popped up on my feed today about how JM asked for people to PayPal her cash donations last year to take 3 people to court for slander and libel. It’s now passed the date of when she was able to bring this to court and no sign of any money being returned.

Just seems completely bizarre to me, and now I’ve fallen down a rabbit hole and seems this is in no way the first time.

The funniest thing I saw was she made out she grew up on food stamps in reply to an American tweet, we don’t have those here.

I can imagine her defence of this: in her mind she's thinking of a time when every parent received child benefit regardless of income, therefore child benefit = 'on benefits' = food stamps. She was just doing her US fans a favour really, kinda translating it for them, y'all.

Why would she have said she grew up "on benefits" at all though? I know of no UK people who would describe receiving universal child benefit as being akin to receiving food stamps or being "on benefits" - I am in my 60s and have literally never heard anyone describe living a middle class lifestyle as being "on benefits".

Her father worked for the fire service and owns a property portfolio and her parents were paid Local Authority foster carers and Jack attended Grammar School but left at 16 with (by her own account) 4½ GCSEs.

Isn’t it weird she’s got all these friends gifting her Burberry scarves, Tiffany earrings, Tracy Emin original art etc etc….where were they when she was using solar light bulbs and melting soap?!?!

She’s a disgusting liar and I’m enjoying her getting a bit of pushback now.

I thought she found that scarf in a puddle . . .

HatchetJob · 20/05/2023 23:25

She said she was naked in a bath full of coins. But she was laid mostly clothed with piece of wood of something with the coins on top of that to fake it. A stupid pointless lie.

The crew who took the photographs made that public and showed in a series of pictures how it was done.

They must have really disliked her . . .

Giant labia?

I think it was "unruly labia" . . . 😬

Of course the bath wasn’t really full of coins. How would that even work?

Xenia · 21/05/2023 16:58

The Guardian article says she was very very late for the photo shoot - 6 hours or something so those photographers probably have never disliked someone as much as she was so rude she could not even be bothered to turn up on time or set an alarm clock so I am not surprised they might reveal a lie of hers.

Ah yes translating, that also explains the Georgia Church suppers debacle.
She just meant Georgia, Europe for UK readers, but then translated to the US book for her faithful American fans.
Absolutely 💯

Sorry, my mistake, unruly is perfectly normal to share.

I had to Google the Georgia book debacle

I don’t think that is her worst crime to be fair.

What happened to Awful Molly?

What happened to Awful Molly?

As far as I know, hounded off twitter by Jack's loyal fans.

Georgia Church Supper Gate was the turning point for me. I had really like her until then. But telling such an obvious untruth made me realise that she wasn’t doing anything in good faith- it’s all a performance for her social media followers.

In my opinion she does way more harm than any good she’s ever done. I had missed the Grendel tweets at the time and when I went back and read the I was utterly appalled. I’m not sure how she thought that was okay

Boudicasbeard · 21/05/2023 21:59

Grendel not Grendel.

Boudicasbeard · 21/05/2023 22:00

Arrrrgh- Grenfell. Stupid phone.

DarrellRiversCriminalBehaviourOrder · 21/05/2023 22:26

Her recipes are really, really bad. She doesn't seem to understand anything about how flavours go together or the actual science of how it all works.

StewPots · 21/05/2023 22:33

Jesus…that Grenfell article is something else. Just wow. What a fucking prick - me me me me me me me me as nauseum…..

Pyjamasleeveprincess · 21/05/2023 22:37

I tried one of her recipes for the slopalong on Tattle. It was that inedibly foul even the dog turned his nose up at it- and he will eat anything.

It was a huge waste of ingredients and cost an absolute fortune. Nothing like the 20‐oddp per portion she said it would. I'm by no means a pile it high type but one portion of the foul slop I cooked up would have been just right for my toddler, not a fully grown adult.

I donated to the local food project that runs classes on budget cooking from scratch and not a Monroe cookbook in sight

WhiteFire · 21/05/2023 22:40

Apparently with her recipes she's "once, and it's done"

That's how most people that make them feel too.

Or, they realise they have to change the recipe beyond recognition for it to work.

Like adding rosemary to the rosemary and lemon roast potatoes..

Most professional chefs try recipes several times, repeating to ensure the same result is reached each time and to make sure the instructions and measurements are right.

Jack doesn't.

She isn't trained in food or cookery or nutrition. She throws whatevers at hand in a pot and calls it a recipe without thinking of texture, consistency, flavours etc etc.
Hence the rinsed hoops and quiche with inaccurate instructions etc.

Thank you, that makes sense.

And also explains why so many people have trouble with the recipes that require some sort of binding ("slopathon", lol) or indeed any sort of proportion within the ingredients. That's what I meant when I said she doesn't seem to understand that there is a real science behind this. What Lawson called the "alchemy of cooking".

It's amazing that such objectively bad recipes got this much success. I guess she came in at the right time, on the slipstream of the last recession and there wasn't anyone else around who was prominently pushing recipes that supposedly cost pennies. But the very fact that her success has lasted this long when the recipes are so bad does suggest that they aren't actually her selling point. Her persona and supposed campaign are.

Professional cookery writers are the best at testing. Professional chefs tend to judge everything by eye which doesn't necessarily translate into good recipes.

However JM is neither.
