Is he going to say which 5 hospitals, because they won’t release the list of which school are in imminent danger of collapsing. I presume they are waiting for some children to die in a collapse before they think it’s the right time.

Notonthestairs · 25/05/2023 13:25

More details here, incl the 5 we think might be being rolled in twitter.com/ShaunLintern/s…

Shaun Lintern was all over this weekend.

Not surprised. Hinchingbrooke is the hospital used by a lot of his constituents and this has been a known problem for years. Not a good look for a Health Secretary's constituents to be buried under a collapsing roof.

RafaistheKingofClay · 25/05/2023 14:24

I’m sure I saw this weekend that one of the hospitals has more supports holding up the roof than physical beds.

That would be the Queen Elizabeth at Kings Lynn. It’s in a terrible state. Both it and Hinchingbrooke were kind of flat pack, erected in the early 80s with a projected lifespan of around 25 years. Hinchingbrooke is now 42 years old, no wonder it’s falling to bits.

RafaistheKingofClay · 25/05/2023 14:29

Sort of impressive they’ve found another way to kill people. 2018 when that school collapsed was 5 years ago. I know there’s been a whole pandemic since then, but did nobody think this should be a priority?

Blossomtoes · 25/05/2023 14:30

Apparently new funding for QEH has been announced.

The team at the QEH had put together a case for its £862m rebuild as its current site has at least 4,394 steel and timber support props in 56 areas of the hospital holding up its roof – making it the most propped-up in the country.

RafaistheKingofClay · 25/05/2023 14:32

The problem with this government is that new funding rarely turns out to be new finding. The funding for the original 40 ‘hospitals’ turned out to not be new funding it was funding already given.

Blossomtoes · 25/05/2023 14:34

I guess it’s new to Kings Lynn.

Braverman’s gone AWOL. How convenient she planned internal meetings for the day the immigration figures were released. I suppose they’ve checked the fridges.

Seem to remember Patel & Raab used to go awol when there was an UQ.
How times change.

What we're those words again about this government? Professional, accountable and with integrity?
When do they start?

Now confirmed by Barclay, he calls it rebuilding

We're rebuilding 5 major hospitals by 2030 as part of a record investment in hospital infrastructure expected to be £20bn+.

So they’re essentially diverting the funding for the much vaunted 40 new hospitals to replace five that are falling down. I wonder what the Tory fan girls will make of that? And, what a surprise - all five are in Tory constituencies.

RafaistheKingofClay · 25/05/2023 17:31

There’s a thread at the moment where a parent is being charged £2 an hour top up for the 30hrs by the nursery.

Very difficult to see how poorer or disadvantaged children can access the 15 free hours if the nursery insists on that being paid. I understand why they feel they need to do that but it would have been much better to keep the 15hrs education entitlement free (or 30 in some school nurseries£ and have the 15 hours childcare advertised as subsidised. And fund it better obviously.

Piggywaspushed · 25/05/2023 17:36

Gillian Keegan video is now up. Disappointingly bland.

To be fair Airedale has only recently been in a Tory constituency, as is unlikely to be again any time soon.

So it’s bribery - keep voting Tory because we’re giving you a shiny new hospital.

I wonder if you could find many economists who would back up the idea that we need a recession to grow the economy. I’m guessing not.
