The lovely bit of your house

So, in my head I have a house straight out of a swanky interiors magazine, but in reality with 2 teenage boys, a full time job and a life, it's a very long way from that.
However, one little corner of the bathroom always gives me joy.
I thought it would be nice to post a picture of the tiny little bit of your house that gives you hope, even if like mine the rest of it is full of discarded trainers, laundry waiting to be put away and last night's left over pizza.

@Chatillon, such BEAUTIFUL writing!

Notreallyawaitress · 13/05/2023 17:12

My kitchen shelves full of bits and bobs. The rest of the kitchen is pretty sleek but this bit is mine 😁

@Daftasahoover is that a full bookcase of persephone books...?!

It is! When my lovely Dad died, DMum gave us some money, and I decided to buy the whole Persephone list (at the time). They're beautiful books, both style and content, and my reading corner gives me immense amounts of happiness, as well as reminding me of my beloved Dad.

I love this thread! It's so calming. This is one of my favourite corners.

I'm loving seeing everyone's art work, and hearing the stories.

Thequeenofwishfulthinking · 13/05/2023 17:25

Loving these pictures. I will try and take my own later on.

This is my study, which is downstairs and overlooks the front garden. I love it because it’s a room of my own; it’s where I write. It was like a cave until my husband papered it as a retirement surprise. Lovely thread!

I have a tiny box room which is MY room. It has my desk for when I WFH but also drawers packed full of yarn for my crochet projects, an aquarium for my much loved fish, seedings on the windowsill waiting for the weather to warm up enough to be planted at the allotment. It's cluttered but I love it. The rest of the house mostly belongs to the kids, but this is my room.

JEAGWI · 13/05/2023 17:42

The view from this window makes me happy 🌳

what a great idea for a thread, I'll have to have a tidy before I take some photos. My house has potential but the children are trying their hardest to keep it a tip

Quitelikeacatslife · 13/05/2023 17:51

My garden is such a tip , but I've been out brushing and. Meaning today and flowers are blooming, love this pergola area

This is hard to narrow down as I love my house so much. I'm in my early 50s and lived most of my life in the SE in rented property.
Was lucky enough to get an inheritance of £50,000 although even that was not enough as a deposit to buy a place of my own where I lived
Took the plunge and moved to the NE ( near family who had moved there ) bought a Victorian terrace outright and retired.
Moved in autumn last year and am slowly renovating.

The fireplace I bought 3 years ago for £50 from Facebook and stored in my dad's shed and I just love it. Will look even better once I've knocked the brickwork out and installed it. Sadly will be cosmetic only.

My other photo is a dresser that was free from Gumtree with my lovely Gran's crockery which I'd loved since a small chance and was left for me after she died

Love this thread Smile

That's lovely and I am very envious of your collection!

@LibertyLily I love both of your pictures. What is the plant growing up the side of the wall in the first one? Did it take long to grow up like that?

Goodfuckingriddance · 13/05/2023 18:04

Spare room. Was awful with dog wee stained carpets. Put in new fireplace and floorboards and bookshelves in the alcoves. I’m sitting on the bed reading now as it gets fab evening sun.

@LibertyLily
Amazing transformation!
I especially love your patio.

My favourite part of my apartment is my west facing deck, where I have a little jungle of plants that I keep alive all winter in a big south facing bay window. It's like having an extra room, big enough to accommodate a table and chairs and a potting bench along with all the plants, and I have a hummingbird feeder there too. I hope the hummingbirds arrive soon - they are later this year than last year as we've had a cold, wet spring (midwest US).
