The lovely bit of your house

So, in my head I have a house straight out of a swanky interiors magazine, but in reality with 2 teenage boys, a full time job and a life, it's a very long way from that.
However, one little corner of the bathroom always gives me joy.
I thought it would be nice to post a picture of the tiny little bit of your house that gives you hope, even if like mine the rest of it is full of discarded trainers, laundry waiting to be put away and last night's left over pizza.

These pictures are all so lovely! I had never heard of Persephone books. That could be an expensive discovery. I love the reading nook @Justforkitchencorner Im fascinated by the little shelves. Are they attached to the wall? Where are they from?

itssquidstella · 13/05/2023 21:18

We have a one year old and far too much stuff for our two bedroom flat, but this corner of the sitting room always gives me happy vibes.

Some seriously beautiful pics on here. Thank you. It's given me ideas!

utterraiin · 13/05/2023 21:22

We had our dining room and kitchen knocked into one big space last year and created a little seating area where you can sit and chat to whoever's cooking or read to my daughter, lots of light comes in from huge double doors and all the kids tat is disguised. I just love it. Plus I love pink. Had the sofa cleaned three times already tho 😩

I would say that I have two favourite places, where I can relax and look over our lake.
The first one is our roof terrace which leads out from our bedroom, and the other is the guest bedroom bath which overlooks the lake too. My sanctuary 💗

Such gorgeous pictures 😍
I'm getting so much inspiration!

Iwantniceclothes yes the shelves are just screwed into the wall. They were from amazon, nothing fancy!

So beautiful!!

I love using the full space with shadows in low light. I’m oversharing now but I love how my inside cherry blossom tree does that.

@utterraiin where is your rug from please?

Roussette · 13/05/2023 21:42

Love all the pics! I love low lighting, and can't stand bright lights. I'm lit as I type by a lit tree!

This picture shows 2 things that give me joy my mantle piece and my rocking chair in the corner.
The rocking chair was a gift from my grandparents for my 21st birthday. When it was given to me I was a student , living in student accommodation with no room for it , so my grandparents kept it until I had my own place . In the meantime my grandfather made good use of it . It’s moved from home to home and room to room over the years, seating all the people I love. That chair was especially useful to nurse and breast feed my children as babies , it was always in their nursery, my youngest is now 26. It’s holds a special place in my heart.
Where it is now is a good place to read a book.
My mantle piece is just a piece of old oak , but every birthday and Christmas it houses the cards from those we hold dear, ( I love cards). It also always has fairy lights festooned over it , which helps make my living room feel cosy and comforting.

What sort of plant is this please? Mrs hinch has one that grew very fast all over her kitchen from one leaf but I haven’t been able to work out what exactly it is

tailinthejam · 13/05/2023 22:11

What a lovely thread, and such fabulous photos. ❤

mamaduckbone · 13/05/2023 22:29

@AprilLovesTV I have no idea - sorry!
This thread has really cheered up a dreary grey Saturday - and made me realise that I need a reading nook in my life.

My house is full of lovely places, but I think the best is my reading corner. I have a duck egg blue tub chair in a small corner of our living room near the French doors. I also have duck egg blue walls and curtains (it's not as bad as it sounds!) The floor is pale wood effect ceramic tiles with a hand knotted traditional style rug. On the wall is a Chinese painting of a peony in a gold frame. Behind my chair is an Ikea standard lamp in old brass with a white pleated shade. On my chair is a cushion with a Kashmiri embroidered flower pattern in raspberry and green - it is the cushion I bought for my mother the birthday before she died so it always reminds me of her. I can't see the television from there and there is no other seating in that area. It is MY space - nobody else sits there and I love it.
