How would you feel if your adult child went on Naked Attraction?

I won’t pretend I don’t occasionally watch this show, mainly out of a morbid curiosity.

Saw a clip last night where a lovely looking young woman who was articulate and seemed funny and bright was rejected, but told the (bisexual) “picker” that she’d love to have a threesome with her and the man she ultimately chose.

I felt so sad for her. Rejected publicly and still eager to please. i wondered how her family and friends felt watching it.

How would you feel if your child told you they were going on this show?

I've always wondered about this. No matter how close you are to your family, there are certain people at least that you wouldn't want to see you naked. Your sister's husband, your neighbour, your child's teacher etc. I just don't understand this program at all. Why would anybody stand naked in order to be judged by strangers and by people who know them as well?

RichardsGear · 27/04/2023 22:09

I wouldn't want to watch, that's for sure! I absolutely cannot understand how people with functioning lives, jobs, families, friendships and, worst of all - children (because someone, somewhere will probably tell their kids about this at some point) go on these types of programmes. Also thinking of Sex Actually; have seen clips on Gogglebox of couples yapping on about their sex lives with blurred out footage of their swinging antics. I mean, have some decorum and keep it to yourself. Nobody needs to know that you like shagging randoms in an orgy, especially not your Aunty Pam and Uncle Derek.

HirplesWithHaggis · 27/04/2023 22:10

I've never watched it but have seen a clip or two. I would make a point of not watching if either of my adult sons went on it!

EggInANest · 27/04/2023 22:11

Upset, aghast, horrified, mortified, concerned, guilty.

For starters.

Mangone · 27/04/2023 22:12

A work colleague of mine went on it.
He didn't win.
I couldn't look him in the eye again.

growgrowinggrown · 27/04/2023 22:13

A person close to me went on, was really 'cheeky' with her responses and thought she'd come across as flirty and playful.

In reality she seemed really cheesy and desperate and it was really cringe to watch.

In the end it ruined her life for a period of time. Everyone at work found out and she was let go as had mentioned the company on the show.

Her work friends took the piss and she felt really weird with everyone having seen her. I genuinely believe she thought no one she knew would watch it and wouldn't find out.

Her mum was devastated and distanced herself due to some of the things she'd said on the show. Dad turned a bit of a blind eye which caused huge rows between mum and dad.

Teenage brother mercilessly teased and 'banter' turned into borderline bullying at the college. Not much they could do to stop the pictures circulating, but not really how you want to see your sister.

If anyone googles her name it comes up so difficult with job hunting and dating.

Initially she tried to laugh it off in a good natured way and her close friends chose to go along with that rather than let her dwell on it.

She's still not been home for a Christmas since though.

Thing is, the face is the last bit to be revealed, so you wouldn’t know it was your son until it was too late!

How terrible.

Fair point. Grin I'll carry on not watching just in case!

I don’t have any sympathy for these attention seeking idiots that go on national tv like this. What did she think was going to happen?

LadyGardenersQuestionTime · 27/04/2023 22:19

I’d disinherit them. Have just messaged them both to say this.

FamilyCourt · 27/04/2023 22:19

Mortified

growgrowinggrown · 27/04/2023 22:22

@drpet49 god only knows what she was thinking. She didn't actually tell anyone prior to doing it either so no opportunity to talk her out of it.

To be honest I think she had such low self esteem she thought it would make her edgy and interesting.

Maybe if she had owned it a little and leaned into it so she was in on the joke it might have blown over, but for her family it was bloody awful times.

happinessischocolate · 27/04/2023 22:24

Neither of mine would

They both shout turn that off if they walk in the room and it's on 😂

It does a public service in that teenagers can watch it and see that everyone is different which I think is good.

People are bonkers for going on it though.

Marchintospring · 27/04/2023 22:26

Disappointed.
Its the linking of nakedness with sex. I grew up in a house where parents were comfortable with no clothes and I am comfortable sans clothes. Very much the opposite of being sexy because that would have been weird and inappropriate.

Sex is about the tension as much as anything. A liver coloured knob or plucked chicken labs aren’t really alluring without the personality behind them.

I reckon you’d stand a better chance of finding someone you wanted to shag if you had to just the eyes to compare of a potential date ( head shot rather than on a plate or something obviously 😁)

Stichintime · 27/04/2023 22:27

I brought my children up to never talk to media, so hopefully they wouldn't! I'd be bloody angry and embarrassed if they did though.

Emptycrackedcup · 27/04/2023 22:29

I've seen this show before, I find it really weird tbh. In some ways its good to be able to see bodies of all shapes and sizes in a neutral/no sexual setting ... but then I'm also a bit of a pride so find it a bit weird too (maybe I need to watch it more to be less of a prude?!). I think the "contestants" are very brave

Guineapigwoes · 27/04/2023 22:30

I’d be wondering where I’d gone wrong and why their self esteem was in the toilet

DoesItHaveKosovo · 27/04/2023 22:44

That’s fabulous @mnahmnah

Twisting · 27/04/2023 22:47

What was the other one, sex on the couch? Where couples talked about their sex issues with a therapist on tv. Imagine going to work on Monday after that!

FofD · 27/04/2023 22:56

I worked with someone who went on. She had.....issues. Especially with boundaries. She was intimate with a fair few members of staff/customers. She was asked to leave as she forgot where the CCTV camera's were.

She went on to commit a awful crime (unrelated to our workplace) and is now in prison.

threeplusmum · 27/04/2023 23:03

As a mum of all girls, this would be my worst nightmare. Although a long age away from being able to choose to do something like that. I hope shows like that for a fast painful death. Nothing good would ever come out of being on a show like that.

Shirls2 · 27/04/2023 23:07

I’d be so sad for them.

I always imagined the contestants must be financially absolutely desperate but I later heard it’s a small amount they are paid. Can’t remember what. Why do you think people go on it if not for money? Voyeuristic? Dared to? Proud of their body and want to be seen as body positive? Want to promote inclusivity or diversity?

There was also one for couples who swing or want a threesome. Think it was a one-off but I watched a bit in disbelief that people would agree to go on it. I had to turn it off as I was cringing for them as the world watched them in bed even! And I’m not a prude.

I think the first episode I watched was because a friend was telling me about it and I had to check it out for myself.

Older woman who seemed like quite a sad character. I can’t remember the details but I think she had been her mother’s carer for quite a while. I remember she also sang in a choir. She brought out a cream cake and made the men smear it on themselves.

She was such a sad woman and seemed very vulnerable.
