How would you feel if your adult child went on Naked Attraction?

I won’t pretend I don’t occasionally watch this show, mainly out of a morbid curiosity.

Saw a clip last night where a lovely looking young woman who was articulate and seemed funny and bright was rejected, but told the (bisexual) “picker” that she’d love to have a threesome with her and the man she ultimately chose.

I felt so sad for her. Rejected publicly and still eager to please. i wondered how her family and friends felt watching it.

How would you feel if your child told you they were going on this show?

I just think that sort of TV is really lazy as well.

”Oooh, let’s get people naked, that will get the views and people talking”.

It’s just ‘shocking’ for the sake of it and I feel sorry for the people who go on it. It’s pointless.

Needmorelego · 28/04/2023 07:54

It just shows we have yet to evolve as humans from watching the travelling freak shows of the past.
Why is this stuff entertaining? Who knows?
But we watch....and will watch whatever the next thing is....and the next....and the next.....

Moonmelodies · 28/04/2023 07:55

I don't understand how they expect people to judge penises in their flaccid state - kinda pointless.

Hellocatshome · 28/04/2023 08:07

I don't understand how they are still making TV like this after things like Jeremy Kyle were banned for using vulnerable people as entertainment and BGT and X Factor had to start being more concerned with not expoloting vulnerability. But apparently it's fine for people to strip naked on TV I hope they are doing some very rigorous psychological checks before they choose the participants and providing services afterwards for when it ruins their lives.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 28/04/2023 08:13

It's like the weirdos that go on 'embarrassing bodies' only to say they were too embarrassed to go to their GP yet are more than happy to get their bits/gross ailments out on tv. Wtf are people actually thinking when they do it?

That man who went complaining of a smelly bottom and then Dr Christian 'diagnosed' that he should 'revisit his wiping technique'. Imagine that being your legacy: telling the world that you're an adult who doesn't even understand the concept of wiping your arse after you've been for a poo!

SquirrellyTheSquirrel · 28/04/2023 08:16

My friends (very odd) lodger went on it

I genuinely read “lodger” as “todger”.

Time for coffee.

What growgrowing describes is what I suspect happens for most. How anyone can be stupid enough to not foresee this beggars belief.

Literally pointless…

LoobyLobbyLou · 28/04/2023 08:25

I’ve often wondered about some of the jobs the “contestants” do, would you really be able to go back to your job in a bank after the nation had seen you nudey the night before?!

OrlandointheWilderness · 28/04/2023 08:29

It's a really weird show. I find it odd because it's supposed to be about finding bodies attractive, where for me it desexualises people. So much of attraction is bound up in a connection and you don't get that at all.

I'd think I'd done a bloody awful parenting job personally!

usernother · 28/04/2023 08:34

EggInANest · 27/04/2023 22:11

Upset, aghast, horrified, mortified, concerned, guilty.

For starters.

All of the above for me. And angry.

DwightShrutesgirlfriend · 28/04/2023 08:45

Upset that I hadn't raised them to have a good level of self esteem. Whilst I think it's good to see that there's no such thing as a 'normal' body, I don't think we rate sexual attraction on what someone looks like naked, which is kind of the message of the show. I can categorically state that by the time I've reached the point of taking my clothes off in a relationship, no man ever has asked me to put them back on again, and I'm no model!

BMW6 · 28/04/2023 08:52

I've come across it a few times and am amazed that people with such "ordinary" bodies are happy to expose them on national TV!

Weird to see men with hairless pubes - looks like the last chicken in the shop.

Frith2013 · 28/04/2023 08:54

Well, I wouldn't watch that episode.

Also, I'd worry he would become a meme of the hairiest man in the world.

Lindy2 · 28/04/2023 08:55

I'd feel awful.

Once it's done it will never go away. What might be seen as fun at 18 could be devastating at 28+. Imagine having a good job and responsibility and a colleague tells you they've just watched you parade yourself on a show like naked attraction.

Housewife2010 · 28/04/2023 06:34

The presenter always asks the male pickers what they think of the various women's "vaginas". Unless the picker is conducting an internal, how could he possibly know?

And they always have the same response:

"Yes, it's very neat and tidy"

Because let's be honest, what are you going to say?! 😂

LadyKenya · 28/04/2023 08:59

SpecialControlGroup · 28/04/2023 02:09

I don’t have any sympathy for these attention seeking idiots that go on national tv like this. What did she think was going to happen?

Tbf I reckon that they get whatever problem they have sorted out pretty quickly from appearing on the show, rather than having to wait goodness knows how long on the NHS.

I don't really think judging a row of erect penises would be much better. 🤣

HowDoYouDoWhatYouDoToMeIWishIKnew · 28/04/2023 09:01

I know someone who went on there.

They have an OF and they have more than doubled their money/subcribers since being on there.

I couldn't watch that episode though, nor would I if one of my kids were on there.

I do think it's good that they include all body types, but the presenter makes me cringe, she comes across as far too try hard with her questions imo.

HerrickForever · 28/04/2023 09:03

It’s an awful show and I’d think I’d done something dreadfully wrong is one of mine went on.

As a side note, following on from a PP, it just goes to show how different we all are whether we’re judging bodies of humour; Suzi Ruffell is painfully unfunny. I can’t stand that sort of gurning, stalking round the stage, arm waving type of delivery.

KatieOQ · 28/04/2023 09:05

I have 2 grown up sons, and I don't think they'd do it, I hope not anyway, but I'd be mortified.
^Also devastated really, because of the future impact.

I do think they should have a minimum age of 30 or something, in the hope they would have more sense by then.^

Mrsjayy · 28/04/2023 09:10

Mine definitely wouldn't when Dd2 lived here we couldn't even watch clips on Gogglebox it was too cringe. Nobody who is shy goes on these programmes its all attention seeking although the self esteem thing must come into play people must think it will give them a boost and appear "liberal " I hate the whole concept of it.

Deathraystare · 28/04/2023 09:12

Interesting! I wrote on here a while back how awful it would if John in accounts recognised you from the show. Ugh! I did not even think about parents watching!

Interestingly a number of Mumsnetters pooh-poohed my concern , in an effort to be considered cool I suppose???

They have done "oldie" episodes so not everybody will be young and beautiful that's how ch4 gets away with showing genitals on TV they.are being "Diverse"
