What does Sunday dinner look like for you?

We are in a different time zone, so ahead of the uk. Sunday dinner is an important ritual in our house, but takes lots of different forms as we live in a hot climate.
It's cooler today, so we have pork shoulder on the bbq, cabbage and bacon, stuffing (from home), baked apples, green beans, roast potatoes and gravy. Followed by cheese.
DH and I are sat outside with a drink and nibble, next to the BBQ, whilst I watch a BBC documentary on trading scams! DSS is sleeping after early morning football, but will be about soon in the hunt for snacks.
How is everyone else's Sunday lunch / dinner looking?

Today I'll be having something random from the fridge at lunchtime 😂😂😂 I'm on my own today with no one to please but myself.

ILoveTulipsandDaffodils · 23/04/2023 07:56

I miss the ritual of a proper Sunday dinner, we would always have a roast growing up, often with grandparents around. DH doesn’t like a roast on a Sunday for some strange reason, it’s just another meal/day to us

Ifailed · 23/04/2023 07:57

Mine will be liver and bacon (enough to put a serving in the freezer), champ and fresh local asparagus.

We're having pizza later 🤷 No ritual here, just whatever we fancy or is convenient.

dudsville · 23/04/2023 07:59

I really like the concept but never think to do it!

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 23/04/2023 08:05

We don't do Sunday dinner in this house - never grew up with it as a "thing" and frankly I CBA with it now, lol.

DH is out today so I'll have whatever is quick and easy - probably frozen pizza!

SpringLobelia · 23/04/2023 08:05

Well, today we are having split pea soup but when I do a Sunday dinner 'properly' it is usually like this;

Winter
roast lamb or chicken
roast potatos
peas
carrots glazed with honey and butter
yorkshires
gravy gravy gravy
sometimes cauliflower cheese

Summer
Herby roast chicken
spinach, pear, walnut and blue cheese salad
tomato onion and black olive salad

mmmmmmmm. The summer menu is my favourite.

DiscoBeat · 23/04/2023 08:05

We having marinaded chicken skewers and rice today. I'm out at a sports event this afternoon so it will be too late to start cooking a roast but I do like to make one when I can!

Mistletoewench · 23/04/2023 08:07

Roast chicken, cauliflower and broccoli cheese, roast spuds and carrots.
reduced apple and blackberry pie from Marks and ice cream

InFiveMins · 23/04/2023 08:08

We almost always have a proper Sunday roast here, even in the height of summer. I love a roast, it's probably my favourite meal and I enjoy cooking them.

Tonight we aren't having a Sunday roast as we are having homemade pie instead but as it's going to be served with mash and veg, in my eyes it's still a "Sunday dinner".

Maraudingmarauders · 23/04/2023 08:09

We rarely do a roast unless we have people to stay - I hate how it takes up so much of a Sunday, means we have to be back from a dog walk by a certain time to get the meat on etc etc plus I just find it too heavy. So just a normal day for us most of the the time.

Marmite27 · 23/04/2023 08:09

We’re having this today.

What does Sunday dinner look like for you?
Dithyramb · 23/04/2023 08:11

I grew up with Sunday roasts, but not only am I a vegetarian adult, I also find the concept of ‘Sunday dinner’ as a ritual kind of depressing. Sunday for me is a day when you can just take off somewhere and eat on the road, or be completely spontaneous.

PeskyPenguin · 23/04/2023 08:13

I make a roast every Sunday and love it!

Today is roast pork, roast potatoes, mashed potatoes, stuffing, cauliflower cheese, broccoli and roast parsnips.

DeathMetalMum · 23/04/2023 08:14

Tuna pasta bake for us today.

Dp is the roast dinner cooker in our house and he usually works Sundays so if we do have a roast it will be a Saturday, but not every Saturday probably once a month or so. Sundays anything goes.

BabyJellyShark · 23/04/2023 08:16

I don't have particular or special meals on a Sunday and I'm not a big fan of roasts so I just tend to have whatever I feel like. I was out yesterday and I had Five Guys for lunch/dinner so I want something lighter today which will be soba noodle salad.

Longingforthesummer · 23/04/2023 08:19

I do a roast every Sunday (In England).

Today we are having;
😋Roast chicken stuffed with onions and sage & onion stuffing.

🧈Roast potatoes cooked in butter.

Carrots, green beans, brocolli, peas.
Yorkshire puddigs and gracy. Plus apple sauce.
🍈Pudding apple crumble and custard!!!

Junegirl15 · 23/04/2023 08:19

ILiveInSalemsLot · 23/04/2023 08:22

I like the ritual of a comforting Sunday meal but I do like to get out for a bit on Sundays too so we do a variation on a roast. It's almost always marinated chicken pieces with roast potatoes and veg. I just want an easy life and it's the dcs favourite dinner.
I do parboil the potatoes first but then it's just a couple of trays in the oven and some veg on the hob.
We eat around the table and then we have dessert on the sofa watching a film.
Sometimes that's a home made pie, crumble or cake but today it's apple strudel from the freezer.

dogglebox · 23/04/2023 08:22

Tbh, I'm only doing it because DS is home for the weekend, when there's just the two of us we tend to go for a walk and eat out (usually a nice roast though)

UsernameTaken76 · 23/04/2023 08:22

We love a Sunday lunch it’s the one day of week we have potatoes and gravy. So it’s nice to enjoy and cook together making all the extras.

We are going out for a roast today. Need to decide between chicken, beef or pork.

Havehope21 · 23/04/2023 08:22

@Longingforthesummer we do a roast every Sunday too. Can I ask, how do you do your potatoes in butter?

Neurodiversitydoctor · 23/04/2023 08:24

Shepardess pie, all made so just needs shoving in the oven.

Orcubed · 23/04/2023 08:27

I like having a roast on Sundays but we don’t always.
Today is pork loin steaks, roast potatoes, roast parsnips, Yorkshire puddings, carrots, kale, swede, peas.
Dd has her St George’s Day parade with beavers this afternoon so I’ll prep the veg this morning then it won’t take long to cook in the air fryer.
