What does Sunday dinner look like for you?

We are in a different time zone, so ahead of the uk. Sunday dinner is an important ritual in our house, but takes lots of different forms as we live in a hot climate.
It's cooler today, so we have pork shoulder on the bbq, cabbage and bacon, stuffing (from home), baked apples, green beans, roast potatoes and gravy. Followed by cheese.
DH and I are sat outside with a drink and nibble, next to the BBQ, whilst I watch a BBC documentary on trading scams! DSS is sleeping after early morning football, but will be about soon in the hunt for snacks.
How is everyone else's Sunday lunch / dinner looking?

'I'm moving in with dp next year and am already not 100% delighted at the thought of possible compulsory meals. At least dp doesn't eat meat so won't go on about roasts specifically.'

Meals are only compulsory if you make them that. We have dcs and never have the same meal on a set night, we have a rough idea of what we will have, but never set in stone.

We are back on a late Sunday dinner for us,
music on in the kitchen. Brisket that's been on the bbq all day, Yorkies, carrots, roast potatoes, cabbage and bacon.
Favourite day.
DH and I have had too much kitchen wine 🤣
It's honestly my fave meal of the week.

I normally do a roast chicken for DS and I on a Sunday but I can't be arsed today as I've got a lot of outdoor jobs to do so we will be having steak and stuffed potato skins with a big salad. Will have raspberries and honey Greek yoghurt for dessert. This will be followed either by a lovely long walk or cycle. Best get on!

Oh that sounds really good OP.

I was planning to do shakshuka but this thread reminded me so I might do a slow cooker beef and carrot casserole with mashed potato and broccoli.

Bananaramad · 30/04/2023 10:54

Only me and DH but we love a Sunday roast, usually afternoon early glass of wine in local. Then lateish dinner... meat could be chicken, slow cooked corned beef, pork or steak . And the works roast spuds, croquets, 2 or 3 veg. Gravy. Sometimes stuffing , gravy with cider if pork and pepper sauce if steak. Today dh is away at a match, so Im having a beef casserole i cooked yesterday. Will have that maybe topped with sliced or mashed potatoes and some veg. So we'll do our roast tomorrow..... bit of an essay, but Sunday roast was always big in our house growing up. Siblings in-laws gran kids all to my mum's ❤. Parents long gone now but we met try meet a couple of times a year for a big Sunday dinner

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 30/04/2023 11:42

Usually have a roast a couple of times a month. We'd have roast chicken, stuffing, roast potatoes, carrot and swede mash, cabbage and gravy. Sometimes cauliflower cheese and some cheeky pigs in blankets in the winter. Always have cranberry sauce though!

Cost of living has put a dampener on having a roast. The chicken I like js now pretty much £10... so can't afford it ☹️

embolass · 30/04/2023 12:07

Roast beef today, roasted potatoes, mash, roast carrots and sweet potatoes, peas , broccoli and sweetcorn, gravy and yorkshires, which I need to pop out for.
Love the ritual of a roast along with a wine of course !

mysonsmother82 · 30/04/2023 15:00

We're having..
Battered prawns
Crab meat
Calamari
Salmon
Cream cheese & watercress blini
Crusty bread and salad.

Tisfortired · 30/04/2023 15:05

We probably have a roast dinner once or twice a month. Usually either roast chicken (crowd pleaser) or sometimes I’ll do brisket of beef slow cooked. When the weathers nice I like to do a spatchcock chicken with salad and new potatoes.

feeling lazy today so doing a slow cooker beef casserole with cheesy mash and veg.

SourDoughToast · 30/04/2023 15:10

Pizza delivery because I have a whopping hangover and can't be bothered to cook.

Kids are delighted 😃🍕

MinnieMountain · 30/04/2023 15:10

At this time of year DH puts a chicken on the BBQ with a chorizo up its bum. We have it with baby potatoes cooked in the ashes and whatever salad we fancy.

Floralnomad · 30/04/2023 15:17

Sunday dinner here will be at about 6/7 tonight and is some kind of pasta , I’m undecided as yet , and salad .

Kazzyhoward · 30/04/2023 15:19

Our Sunday dinners are exactly the same as every other day. Sunday is nothing special for us, just another day. No one else comes for dinner.

But anyway, traditional "meat and two veg" is my idea of food hell, so we wouldn't be doing that even if we had people round.

Mistymoonsinastarrysky · 30/04/2023 15:19

Cba to do full roast today so had chicken in homemade bbq sauce, sweetcorn and chips.

Stillwearingskinnys · 30/04/2023 15:24

We used to have a Sunday roast dinner every week, but these days it’s probably about once a month.

We always have chicken or gammon, with the following:
carrots
peas
green beans
broccoli
cauliflower cheese
white cabbage
sprouts
roast parsnips
roast pots
mash
stuffing
huge homemade Yorkshire puds
loads of gravy

Haveallthesongsbeenwritten · 30/04/2023 15:27

I am not from the UK although lived here for many years, I probably do a proper roast once a month but I do not get the fuss about it…

Redlarge · 30/04/2023 15:35

We love roast dinners, but we were out early and been busy so I have a chilli in the slow cooker.

Arniesleftleg · 30/04/2023 15:50

I generally make a Sunday Roast with all the trimmings. On the days when I cant be arsed with that I do a spag Bol or a curry. Last week we had roast chicken with brioche buns, salad and chips and today were eating out as I can't be bothered to cook! I've trained my husband into prepping the veg though if we're having a roast!

dontgobaconmyheart · 30/04/2023 15:57

It doesn't really look like anything in particular, we don't have a set menu simply because it's a Sunday and nobody in the house particularly loves a Roast Dinner so it's a bit of a no-brainer to just not bother with it.

We'll have one if we all fancy it but won't just because it's a correlating day (sunday) or event (xmas, easter etc).

I had a salmon, egg and avocado bagel this morning, a tea and a bit of cake that DP brought home from M&S as an afternoon snack and am thinking of having tortellini and a bit of garlic bread for dinner.

Xiaoxiong · 30/04/2023 16:04

We have suddenly had a lot of family move back to the UK so Sunday lunches for 10 are becoming a bit of a thing for us which is lovely.

Today we had roast chicken, mixed root veg roasted with red onion and garlic (so carrots, parsnips, potatoes, sweet potatoes all roasted together), asparagus, and a green salad.

Carcasses now simmering on the stove with the veg trimmings and carrots that were a bit too bendy to be roasted, meat stripped, so soup tonight with bread and cheese, and chicken curry tomorrow!

WomensLandArmy · 30/04/2023 16:08

We had our roast yesterday. Bit unconventional. It was veggie haggis, roast potatoes, sweet potatoes, parsnip, and peppers, Yorkshire pudding, braised red cabbage, steamed carrots, broccoli and mange tout, gravy and sausages. Followed by apple and raspberry crumble with custard.

OllytheCollie · 30/04/2023 16:11

We have an Oddbox delivered every sat which means our roasts have to be whatever we have left over from the week before. This week it's pork with apple sauce, roast pots, mashed carrots and swedes, rainbow chard, celeriac and roast parsnips followed by rhubarb and strawberry pie.

But I learnt years ago the only but my family care about is the potatoes. F**king hours spent finding free range joints and prepping sustainable veg and they sit there wanting on about how good the potatoes are.

Poblano · 30/04/2023 16:37

Today it's chicken breasts wrapped in serrano ham, garlic roast baby potatoes, asparagus and tenderstem broccoli. Followed by a lemon tart. So kind of an alternative roast.

Last week it was lasagne with garlic bread and salad.

Hotcuppatea · 30/04/2023 16:40

We would normally have a roast with enough leftovers to make dinner on Monday. Today is roast chicken so tomorrow is likely to be either a chicken pie or chicken and bacon pasta.

ssd · 30/04/2023 16:42

Might have a toasty
