What does Sunday dinner look like for you?

We are in a different time zone, so ahead of the uk. Sunday dinner is an important ritual in our house, but takes lots of different forms as we live in a hot climate.
It's cooler today, so we have pork shoulder on the bbq, cabbage and bacon, stuffing (from home), baked apples, green beans, roast potatoes and gravy. Followed by cheese.
DH and I are sat outside with a drink and nibble, next to the BBQ, whilst I watch a BBC documentary on trading scams! DSS is sleeping after early morning football, but will be about soon in the hunt for snacks.
How is everyone else's Sunday lunch / dinner looking?

I get three Hello Fresh meals a week (a meal delivery service with all the ingredients measured out, you just have to cook) which has added variety to our weekly menu and helped with portion control. Tonight we will have crispy sea bream with Asian style pesto, roasted sesame sweet potatoes and stir fried vegetables.

SpringNTing · 23/04/2023 08:29

We don’t have Sunday roast lunch/dinner often. Maybe once a month in the winter and not at all during summer.

I’m making a big lasagne and some salad later.

Tarantullah · 23/04/2023 08:30

We always have fajitas in the summer on Sunday (ideally outside if the weather is nice enough!)- nice in warm weather and feels more social than other meals (not sure how to describe it haha). In autumn/winter we usually have a roast but aren't super set on it if cba or if out and about: chicken, roasties, veg, yorkshire puddings and of course gravy- nothing too wild.

Big roast dinner with all the trimmings. We have it every week and I love cooking and eating it.

HighlandCowbag · 23/04/2023 08:36

We usually have a sunday roast every other weekend. Sometimes I cba on sunday tho so we have a monday night roast.

Today we are having roast beef, mash and roast potatoes, roast carrots and parnsips, cabbage, brocoli, cauliflower cheese, Yorkshire puddings and gravy. There will be enough leftovers for ds to have a second dinner tomorrow for his tea and enough beef for chinese style beef curry and egg fried rice for me and dh. A faff today but my future friend tomorrow as dinner will be 3/4 cooked.

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 23/04/2023 08:40

I love eating and cooking Sunday dinner! We usually have it in the evening. Today's offering will be slow roast lamb shoulder, tenderstem broccoli with lemon, butter and pine nuts and roast potatoes. I'm making bread and butter pudding for dessert. I'm tweaking a favourite recipe using hot cross buns and adding the first rhubarb from the garden. I'm hungry thinking about it already Grin

MojacaSunset · 23/04/2023 08:41

Dh and dd will be out all day at a sporting event (dd competing and dh assisting the officials).
I will make something for us to have later, but haven't decided what yet. It won't be a roast today though.

AuntyBrenda · 23/04/2023 08:45

We usually have chicken, beef or lamb with veg, roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese, gravy etc. Occasionally I swap the meat for a pie (which is what we are doing today). Generally during summer, when it warms up, we have chicken, beef or lamb with spicy rice, salad, coleslaw, wedges or even just crusty bread instead of all the veg and gravy.

Some of your Sunday lunches soubd delicious.

Quisto · 23/04/2023 08:46

This week it was yesterday evening. DS1 had been working , turned up with girlfriend, DS 2 had been at a Scout activity day in the rain, all day , so DP cooked roast lamb with roast potatoes, carrots, broccoli and cauliflower, gravy and mint sauce. All plates were emptied and DS 1 and girlfriend did the washing up.
Today will be a slow cooker meal for 3. Probably beef and ale.

berksandbeyond · 23/04/2023 08:47

I love a roast. Don’t do one every Sunday but I think you’ve inspired me to have one today!

Optimalise · 23/04/2023 08:55

I live alone and recently moved to a new part of the country so I don't know many people in the area, Sunday lunch in it's traditional form is something I can't be bothered with, so it's a sandwich midday then I'm doing piri piri chicken and rice for dinner tonight...well it works for me 🤣

Longingforthesummer · 23/04/2023 08:56

Havehope21 · 23/04/2023 08:22

@Longingforthesummer we do a roast every Sunday too. Can I ask, how do you do your potatoes in butter?

I par boil potatoes, drain and shake, add salt and pepper. A big nob of butter in a roasting tin pop in oven until hot and sizzling but not brown. Poor 3 quarters over potatoes and then put them in tin.

Always used butter over oil

Kranke · 23/04/2023 08:57

We like to get out and about on the weekend. The week is very routine with nursery, both in full time work, so on the weekend we like to be flexible. I used to hate the monotony of family Sunday roasts, probably the dread of school the next day also! None of us like the traditional Sunday lunch, we have one at Christmas, but that’s about it!!

IHeartGeneHunt · 23/04/2023 08:58

I don't always do it because I'm at work usually, but today is hazelnut roast with roast potatoes, swede, green beans and redcurrant tart.

AuntieMarys · 23/04/2023 08:58

Ifailed · 23/04/2023 07:57

Mine will be liver and bacon (enough to put a serving in the freezer), champ and fresh local asparagus.

Sounds fabulous

AuntieMarys · 23/04/2023 08:59

Dh is working so a sausage casserole tonight with 4 vegetables. I never cook a traditional Sunday dinner

BMW6 · 23/04/2023 09:00

Today will be slow roasted pork in a cider sauce, boiled baby spuds, carrots and green beans. Around 7pm.

Caspianberg · 23/04/2023 09:01

Just had breakfast here - homemade waffles, hot berries and Greek yoghurt. Leek and pea soup for lunch, then pizza for dinner. All homemade, but quick and nothing fancy. Roasts have too many dishes and prep to make regularly

Phos · 23/04/2023 09:03

We’re going to the pub for Sunday roast today because I can’t be arsed having my cooking critiqued by the in-laws.

We’ll often have roast chicken or lamb with roast potatoes, Yorkshires, peas, carrots, broccoli and cauliflower.

Sometimes though we have lasagne or last week we did tacos, that was nice.

myheartmyhead · 23/04/2023 09:03

Do a Sunday roast on a Sunday when I'm not working
Didn't really have them as a child, and like knowing the kids are starting the school week with a good dinner inside them (odd I know)

scryingeyes · 23/04/2023 09:06

we love a roast throughout the year, regardless of the weather.

Roast chicken, beef or lamb with all the trimmings. Leftovers eaten next day.

downdside is the washing up
so I do enjoy gping out for Sunday lunch too!

ExtremelyDetermined · 23/04/2023 09:06

We rarely have roasts and I don't like the idea of any sort of regular meal on any day of the week, we like to be more flexible than that so it can be anything from "everyone get themselves a sandwich" to the occasional roast, which would always be in the evening, never at lunchtime. I remember being SO glad when my parents ditched the restrictive weekly Sunday roast habit when I was about 10.

Addicted2Sugar · 23/04/2023 09:08

Mostly have roasts every Sunday but all too ill with a coughing lurgy to think about it today.
Can I say @Hop27 Your Sunday sounds idyllic, like a celebrity in a Sunday supplement 😀

MeinKraft · 23/04/2023 09:12

I always think making a roast gives Sundays a comforting, homely feel that I remember from childhood. We aren't having today though, we're having vegetable soup.

familyissues12345 · 23/04/2023 09:14

Normally we have a roast, or something like a cottage pie and vegetables. Today we've decided to have a change and are having baguettes with Brie, continental meats, tomatoes etc and nice crisps! Looking forward to it already Grin
