Somebody on another thread mentioned millennium Eve and it got me wondering what everybody was doing on Millennium Eve? And also what fun outfits were you wearing you would cringe at now?

I was only 13, my family doesn't celebrate new years eve as we had a very sad loss and it brings back memories so we were home doing not much really I was messing around on the internet I really wanted to turn the computer off but Kyle from the year above was talking at me on MSN!

I would have been the same age and I cant remember!

I do remember the special concert at school before the holidays started, including all the special millennium song the teacher wrote.

I made a roast beef and we had a family meal then went to the top a hill (in London) to watch the fireworks on the Thames
. Dh narrowly missed being hurt by a firework which was let off near him,it was only because he jumped out of the way it didn't get him.

We were staying with my parents. We went out and suddenly there were loads of fireworks as it turned midnight.

justcantgetenough · 21/04/2023 09:44

I was ill in bed with that awful flu that was going around, never been so poorly, coughed so much I put my back out. So was probably in bed feeling sorry for myself and being annoyed at the fireworks.

we went to a studenty houseparty with a heaven and hell theme. it was brilliant. i was 21 and in my prime

Highworth · 21/04/2023 09:47

We went to a friend of a friend’s house party. They were very very well off with a beautiful house. There were about 40 people there I think. We had an amazing three course meal in the conservatory, unlimited drinks and music and dancing. Ending up at midnight with a stunning firework display. It was just a lovely evening. Only problem was I kept wanting to just sit and sleep. I found out a week later that I was pregnant with my first and unplanned baby. I slept through most of the first three months of that pregnancy.

BusySittingDown · 21/04/2023 09:47

I had just turned 16 and went to a friend's family party. I was wearing a black mesh top from Pilot (anyone remember Pilot?) and black bootcut trousers. Lots of hair glitter!

Anskl · 21/04/2023 09:50

I was 21 and spangled the Gatecrasher Millenium party in Sheffield.

megletthesecond · 21/04/2023 09:51

I was 27 and in bed dying with proper flu. Was too ill to even sit up for millennium eastenders.

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 21/04/2023 09:51

I was 13 too. We had a family party at home. My older sister spent most of it panicking that an aeroplane was going to fall on our house at midnight.

Peridot1 · 21/04/2023 09:52

I was at a big ball in a museum in Vietnam where we were living. I was 35. It was a big expat party organised by a guy who loved organising parties.

Highworth · 21/04/2023 09:53

Oh, I forgot to say what I was wearing. Strappy sparkly sandals and the most beautiful backless black dress with tiny diamanté flowers over it. It wasn’t expensive but up to then I had so few nice things and I just felt amazing in it.

I still have it tucked away in a drawer.

MariaRemindsMeOfAWestSideStory · 21/04/2023 09:53

Hehe I was also 13!

I remember standing outside at midnight to see if the millennium bug was real and planes would be falling out of the sky!

Charlottewebsbabies · 21/04/2023 09:53

I was 20 and had two small kids

My narc mother said she'd babysit so I could go out

I'm not a pubber or a clubber so didn't bother to make plans-i wanted to be with my babies

Hours before she was due to pick them up (no plans where made-she just said 'i'll pick em up at 7 pm) she rang to cancel as she was going out herself and had known for weeks

She then hit the roof as I wasn't upset or begging her to babysit

I remember lying in bed, listening to the countdown

3 months later I gave birth to no3-id been pregnant and not known until the week before

Hood job I didn't go out and get pissed!

EllenLRipley · 21/04/2023 09:53

I flew to India - it was £99 due to panic over the millenium bug!
We arrived, dumped our stuff at a hotel and went straight out to a huge crazy party. Amazing experience!

KnickerlessParsons · 21/04/2023 09:54

On call in case the Y2K bug brought our systems crashing down. It didn't.

winkywankie · 21/04/2023 09:54

I was 17 and went to a friend's house for a house party put on by her parents.

You paid a tenner per person and it was all you could drink included. I can remember thinking something magical was going to happen at midnight. Soon realised it was just another New Year 😂

DeltaAlphaDelta79 · 21/04/2023 09:55

I was working, I was in a control room for the ambulance service taking 999 calls. Triple time and free food all night. It was very busy but a great atmosphere. We watched all of the celebrations in central London on a big screen.

Toddlerteaplease · 21/04/2023 09:55

The only time I've ever stayed up to see the new year in. We sat round watching TV on the dining chairs as the TV was not in the lounge. 🙄🙄

NerrSnerr · 21/04/2023 09:55

I was 17 and had a sleepover at a friends house. It was brilliant and we had lots of fun. We went to the village square at midnight to see the beacon being lit. All very countryside like!

ZeroFuchsGiven · 21/04/2023 09:56

Had a house party and dropped a few E's.

ToHellBackAndBeyond · 21/04/2023 09:58

I was in hospital recovering from a C-section with my eldest, drinking alcohol free bubbly, watching the fireworks on the tiny TV in the corner of the ward. Dinner was beef in red wine gravy with mashed potatoes. I always remember that dinner, it was delicious!

GeraltsBathtub · 21/04/2023 09:59

I was 4 so I was probably in bed by 7pm!

3catsandcounting · 21/04/2023 10:03

We went to a friend's house wearing black tie, and had a Chinese banquet from the local! Lots of fizz and fireworks and my 2yo and 4 month-old slept through the whole thing, like the angels they are. 🤣
