Somebody on another thread mentioned millennium Eve and it got me wondering what everybody was doing on Millennium Eve? And also what fun outfits were you wearing you would cringe at now?

I was only 13, my family doesn't celebrate new years eve as we had a very sad loss and it brings back memories so we were home doing not much really I was messing around on the internet I really wanted to turn the computer off but Kyle from the year above was talking at me on MSN!

London, on the Thames watching the fireworks and trying to convince my very drunk husband not to steal a bauble off the tree outside St Paul's

LazyDoll · 21/04/2023 16:58

20 something and partying with new friends in Sydney watching the fireworks near the Harbour Bridge. Good times! Wearing floaty grey drawstring trousers and a tiny t shirt with big trainers!

katscamel · 21/04/2023 17:11

I was in a very small town in Italy, 2 months into my first teaching post. Dont remember a great deal apart from watching the fireworks. Was by myself as I think my flatmates had gone back to the UK for longer.

WhatTheHeckyPeck · 21/04/2023 17:22

My divorce had come through 2 weeks before so it was just me (DD was in bed asleep), feeling a bit sorry for myself.

mamaduckbone · 21/04/2023 17:31

We had a very drunken house party at a friend's house in the village where I grew up.

I've no idea what I was wearing but for some reason we decided to completely deck out the front room with tin foil! All of our parents arrived to see in the new year with us and watch the fireworks in the back garden. I have a very clear image in my head of my ddad, who's no longer with us, wearing a year 2000 tiara.

My (relatively new) boyfriend at the time (now Dh) set a rocket off in the wrong direction which went straight through my friend's mum's black chiffon skirt and landed on the kitchen floor. She didn't even notice and walked back through the village slightly tipsy with a hole right through the middle of her skirt and only realised the next morning!

My friend also decided that it would be good to see the sun rise on the new Millennium so we all got up to do that, having not had very many hours sleep.

Fond memories!

In Edinburgh having dinner at my friends house in Leith, then we went out into the street party on the mile.

I was a young scientist in my first job straight out of university. I had a lovely Scottish boyfriend but I already knew the relationship was over really. I’m still friends with all those people even though I moved away and lived all over the world and never back in Scotland again.

Under Waterloo bridge in the drizzle waiting for the river of fire. With my new boyfriend who is now my DH.
We drank gin from a hip flask and danced with a group of gay men with feather boas. We then walked home to east London, brilliant night.

mondaytosunday · 21/04/2023 17:52

I went with my boyfriend to a rather small party where I didn't really know the people that well (snd he didn't know anyone). The hook was there was supposed to be an amazing view of the London fireworks from the roof - a bit oversold.
Fun clothes? I was 38 it was just regular party outfit, probably a nice top and trousers I don't remember.

Butteredtoast55 · 21/04/2023 18:14

Big family gathering at my parents. Watched the fireworks in the next village over the fields and my Dad and I took an elderly friend home. We've got a lovely photo of my mum and dad with all the grandchildren crowded round them.

MyRabbit79 · 21/04/2023 18:47

I was just 19 and in London with school friends, staying in someone's halls of residence. We went to the Thames and my main memories are being scared to drink too many Bacardi Breezers as there was nowhere to wee, the much anticipated river of fire not happening, and it being a nightmare to get home. Still had a great night. A few pics exist and I was wearing winter coat and scarf, no idea what was underneath.

CeriB82 · 21/04/2023 18:50

I was in bed well before midnight like all the other NYE’s

Justmeandthedog1 · 21/04/2023 19:11

I was working. Went outside at midnight and could hear a few fireworks going off. That was it.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 21/04/2023 19:47

I was at my brother's house with my other brother and all our DPs. We had a loads of champagne left over from a wedding, no idea how it be fed up in DBro's house, but it did. He lives on top of a hill. We walked to the top of the hill with a bottle of fizz each, and my 7 year old nephew, to look at the beacons.

Tintackedsea · 21/04/2023 19:54

Age 19, Inverness, awesome house party with a piper playing us into the new year - 20 minutes later he'd passed out so the timing was great! I was madly in love and with my guy, I had a great bunch of pals, it was a really fun night.

SQLsurfer · 21/04/2023 19:57

I was 9 and I can remember eating a cadburys caramel dairy milk bar (the old square, chunky ones) and watching the fire works with my mum. My cousins were sleeping over as their parents were out celebrating.

But they were all asleep and it was just me and my mum. I remember it so clearly!

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 21/04/2023 20:01

I was 13 too and we had a family party at our house. My auntie spilt red wine on the carpet and tried to pass it off that one of us kids had knocked her glass over. I tried to tell them it was her but my mum hushed me up 😂. We had fireworks in the garden at midnight and waited for the worlds computers to crash 😂😂.

ItsCalledAConversation · 21/04/2023 20:02

I was 18. Went to a party at a friend’s house, rolled around on the floor drinking cava at midnight. It was a bit of an anticlimax as I remember it. Mortal hangover the next day, I remember watching sound of music on tv at my then boyfriend’s house.

IHateLegDay · 21/04/2023 20:06

I was 9 and at a party with my family/family friends.
We all got champagne and then us kids snuck off to the living room to watch South Park.
None of us were allowed to watch it and the adults were too busy partying to know what we were up to 😂

Tortiemiaw · 21/04/2023 20:14

I was pregnant with ds, so me,dh and Dd9 went to the pub down the road where she fell asleep and was put to bed by the landlord!
We managed to stay awake till midnight, then got her and went hone. Quite dull, really

Highlyflavouredgravy · 21/04/2023 20:14

I was 28 and 32 weeks pregnant with ds1. I wore a black velvet dress that i still have!
We had a big family party and i had a glass of champagne at midnight. And felt daring. Fil snd uncle did a fireworks display but it was really foggy and we couldn't see much.
Dh was on call as an IT bod.

MosquitoBuffet · 21/04/2023 20:19

I was working. NYD too, an early shift.

WelshNerd · 21/04/2023 20:28

Manic Street Preachers!

justcantgetenough · 21/04/2023 09:44

I was ill in bed with that awful flu that was going around, never been so poorly, coughed so much I put my back out. So was probably in bed feeling sorry for myself and being annoyed at the fireworks.

Yup exactly that for me too. Because I was so feverish, all the scary talk of an internet meltdown combined with the noise of the fireworks , and in my mind the world really was coming to an end. A very tiring night even though I was in bed the whole time 🤣

Fedupsequin · 21/04/2023 20:30

I was twelve,my late Auntie threw a house party and when we arrived (an hour early to help set up) her husband was in the middle of knocking down a chimney breast. You can imagine how that went down with her😂we had a brilliant time though and it’s a memory I look back on really fondly. Especially as the world didn’t go dark at the stroke of midnight as the world feared!

cptartapp · 21/04/2023 20:32

We were in London watching the fireworks with friends who now live in the states. Stayed in another friend's flat and remember walking ages looking for a taxi all drunk and happy.
We were late 20's then. Great memories.
