Somebody on another thread mentioned millennium Eve and it got me wondering what everybody was doing on Millennium Eve? And also what fun outfits were you wearing you would cringe at now?

I was only 13, my family doesn't celebrate new years eve as we had a very sad loss and it brings back memories so we were home doing not much really I was messing around on the internet I really wanted to turn the computer off but Kyle from the year above was talking at me on MSN!

I was 29 and on a ship off the Libyan coast, we were doing a seabed hazard survey, before they laid a series of fibre optic cables. I was on the 06:00 to 18:00 shift and had an awful sinus infection, my cheek had a lump the size of a ping pong ball and I was feeling quite miserable.

I went to my bunk at 8pm. Mind you, I'm not really bothered about New Year, birthdays etc.

Whatdayisitalexa · 21/04/2023 10:37

I was on call to go to the bank where I worked at the time to make sure the ATMs weren't spitting money out all over the place. We had so much money in the vault just in case the millennium bug bit! It took so long to order it in and get rid of it after because of the limit the security company could carry. Think I got about £250 to do this

I regret my once-in-a-lifetime Millennial Eve.

I was 26 and we stayed in with boyfriend at the time’s family.

We were big clubbers at the time (he was a DJ), so by rights, I should have an amazing story to tell, but regretfully don’t!

ButterflyBitch · 21/04/2023 10:37

I was 17 and I had a house party with all my friends there. Great time 🥳

hazelnutlatte · 21/04/2023 10:38

I was 18, home from uni for the Christmas holidays and I worked it in the local pub because I was totally skint and needed that double pay. Was actually one of the best new years I ever had, the we had loads of staff so got to spend the night chatting and drinking as well as serving, then the pub owners had a party for staff once the pub closed and I walked home very drunk just as it was getting light.

emmathedilemma · 21/04/2023 10:39

I went to a friend's house party. She was heavily pregnant and everyone else got incredibly drunk. We had fireworks although I'm not sure anyone should have been lighting them by that time. Had a very bad hangover the next day.
Looking back on it, it seems so funny that everyone had notions that all systems might crash etc when the date ticked over to "00". I remember us having to switch off and unplug everything before we left the office!

I had just turned 16 and went to a friend's family party. I was wearing a black mesh top from Pilot (anyone remember Pilot?) and black bootcut trousers. Lots of hair glitter!

I bloody loved pilot! I had a black sleeveless top with a white dragon on the front that I wore to death.

SallySunrise · 21/04/2023 10:43

I was 16 in bed with the worst flu of my life. Woke up to fireworks at midnight.

Easterbunnywashere · 21/04/2023 10:43

We had a big dinner party at home and other friends dropped in after dinner and even after midnight. Lots of people were going house to house wishing everyone happy new year/first footing etc. At midnight we had fireworks in the garden. I have some lovely memories of that night.

DrFoxtrot · 21/04/2023 10:43

I was 22 and went to a do at the local pub with my boyfriend (XH now). He was an arse that New Year and I should have paid attention to the red flags!

I remember the Eastenders special! Was it the double wedding for Barry and Ian to Mel? And someone else?

ElizabethBest · 21/04/2023 10:44

I did exactly the same as @BusySittingDown, wearing exactly the same outfit. Family party wearing black bootcut trousers and a mesh top. Although I think my top was from Bay Trading. Grin We did a quiz at the party with rounds for the millenium, century and decade, which I won and the prize as a minidisc player. Good times!

I was in my final year at uni and spent it with my then boyfriend and a couple of friends I haven't seen in well over 10 years. Uni was in a seaside town and they did fireworks on the seafront but it was so misty we couldn't see them. BF was quite drunk and trying to ring his best friend but couldn't get through as the mobile networks were all jammed. I'd just had my first mobile for Xmas!

FrenchandSaunders · 21/04/2023 10:47

I was in my early 30s, me and DH were invited to stay with a friend and her parents in Norfolk, they had a lovely house by the sea. There was wonderful food, drink, music, fireworks, they made it a really nice evening.

However, I really wasn't in the mood for it as I was supposed to be heavily pregnant and giving birth a few days later ..... I'd had a miscarriage a few months before.

It all worked out though .... I was pregnant again by May of 2000 and had beautiful twin girls the following year. If only I could have known that on NY eve.

I was 27 and in bed dying with proper flu. Was too ill to even sit up for millennium eastenders.

Me too, I'll never forget that flu, I've not had covid so can't compare but my god, proper flu, hallucinations, coughing, then putting my back out. Never been so ill, can remember being subscribed antibiotics from GP over the phone as couldn't leave my bed,

daisybrown37 · 21/04/2023 10:51

I wasted it with my then boyfriend. He worked for BT and was on call for Y2K related issues, so we spent it at my flat as my flat mate was away.

we split up not long afterwards.

Dogstar78 · 21/04/2023 10:51

My much missed Nan was still alive my mum, dad and me stayed at her house and then got the train from her station to London Bridge. We stood on London Bridge and watched the fireworks. A lovely memory I had totally forgotten about until I saw this. Dad now has terminal cancer and my my mum is registered disabled so this would be completely impossible now...as well as needing to wait 977 years. I was 23 at the time.

Was at a house party just outside New York having flown out a few days before. Celebrated twice - once for London, then NY. I was 25 and living my best life - I think a black strappy dress was involved, and I imagine I spent most of the evening falling over in my heels as I never did get the hang of them.

Sounds like you were an extra in Sex in the City. What a fabulous memory and moment in time for you.

Violetcrush · 21/04/2023 10:53

20 and in London along the Thames to watch the fireworks with a load of mates. Felt like we were really part of something, but it was hectic and hard to have a wee!!!

Blarn · 21/04/2023 10:53

I was 15 and went to a neighbours house party. Drank lots of sparkling wine. I imagine I was wearing baggy jeans and a tshirt. Possibly with some shimmery eyeshadow and hair mascara to fancy it up a bit!

SicParvisMagna · 21/04/2023 10:53

I was 15, and we'd all travelled down to Plymouth to stay with my aunt, uncle and cousin. There were going to be fireworks and a big countdown on Plymouth Hoe. I was wearing a long burgundy slinky dress probably from Pilot 😂My mum kept telling me to put proper clothes on but I was being stubborn and wanted to wear something "classy" haha. Froze my bloody tits off.
We got down the front and found a spot. Ended up missing the actual midnight by a good margin as they had technical problems, or just hadn't got their timings right. I remember my dad looking at his watch and saying it was midnight and we all started saying happy new year to each other and hugging and cheering etc as other people in the crowd did. If I recall correctly someone was on stage waffling into a microphone as ripples of cheers started going through the crowds. It was all very confused and a bit of an anticlimax to be honest but good memories non the less!

Silvers11 · 21/04/2023 10:53

We were in a hotel on a package. Were well fed and watered. Champagne at Midnight. Also fireworks after Midnight, not where we were staying, but visible all down the coast ( we were on an Island). Lots of lovely chat with other guests, plenty of vino and we finally got to bed around 5 45 in the morning.

Margarita45 · 21/04/2023 10:54

Watched by Mel ditch Ian Beale at the alter….wasn’t everyone?

I do remember their being a power cut and everyone freaking out thinking it was something to do with the ‘Millennium Bug’

Jewelanemone · 21/04/2023 10:55

My (now ex) husband worked in IT and had to be at work at midnight, just in case. The whole team and their wives and partners made it into a party 🎉

Nothing went wrong when the clock ticked over, and he earned a big enough bonus to take the two of us to Disneyland 😊

AndrexPuppy · 21/04/2023 10:56

I was working. What a thriller that was

Lasouthpaw · 21/04/2023 10:58

I was nearly 18 and went into Manchester with my friends. It was a crap night, we didn't know where to go so ended in a bar that was empty with no countdown and we missed it by about 10 seconds!

It was also impossible to get home to our suburb of Cheshire so we walked for miles and miles from a certain point.

I wish we'd made a plan for where to go and how to get home but we were 17 years old!
