Worst plot hole in Friends

I was home sick today, and having nothing to do this popped into my head and I can't get it out until I share it! The One With Chandler in a Box, where Monica injures her eye and has to go to the eye doctor. She and Rachel are gushing over how cute the on-call doctor is, only to find out that it is Richard's son. Really?! She honestly had no idea what her ex-boyfriend's son looked like? Granted she hadn't seen him in-person for a while, but Richard really had no photos of his kids in his apartment? That just seems too far fetched to me.

She kept putting the dress on day after day, vowing to stop but being unable to. She was doing the housework wearing it. Phoebe found out and joined in. Then Rachel did too. It is definitely over a couple of days. Phoebe went out to buy hers but of course Rachel already had one from episode 1.

I am on season 3 ATM and dying to check it myself😂You can watch it over and over again and still forget many details.

Unpopular opinion but I think the Joey of season 8, when he fell for Rachel, would've been a better match for her than controlling man-baby Ross! I thought Matt LeBlanc was really good that season and Joey seemed to really grow. Shame they almost immediately dumbed him down the following season.

I caught an old episode the other day and was struck by how gorgeous he and Matthew Perry were in the early seasons. I really didn't notice it at the time! And Courtney Cox was just stunning.

On the subject of Monica being overly invested in Ross’s sex life in the One with the free porn I think when she’s encouraging Ross tell Emily he loves her she points to the couple shagging on screen and says “look that could be you and Emily …. Only nicer”
which was a bit ick
she was also way too excited to watch the video of Emma’s conception, I know it was just to see who was “right” in the argument and they weren’t actually gonna watch the shagging but I would be grossed out if that was my brother lol

I agree, that was a bit uncomfortable to watch. That reminds me of that storyline with Danny and his sister and how they were inappropriate with each other. Really creeped me out.

I found it weird that the episode with Richard and Ross where there was only 1 condom left. Do they actually share boxes of condoms typically? That’s weird. Surely one of them would have been the ones to purchase them and they would just say that’s my box. And why would they keep them in the bathroom and not in a drawer next to their bed. Plus all the time they spent arguing wouldn’t they have just gone to joeys and got one? Same as the one in London Joey goes to the hotel room to get the box of condoms then too. And chandler asks him to leave one. Why are they sharing them?

And in one of the episodes, Joey has a whole roll of condoms in his pocket so why would he have to go back to the hotel room to get one?

Yes this story line hung from a totally implausible hook. Of course they would have kept their own stash, on hand, in their own room.

I'd just assumed the condoms belonged to the girls and there was a communal box in the bathroom for whoever was getting lucky. Or more likely Monica was the organised one and had a box in the bathroom that Rachel utilised.

This had never occurred to me as a plot hole and I still don't think it is.

Was it not Rachel's Barry dress? Or supposed to be? It irritated me for years as to how she got her hands on a dress so quickly until I realised (I thought) she already had one.
She wouldn't have gone to "It's not too late" thought , isn't that for pregnant brides? Grin

She was trying to get him to back off , granted , but then they went and made it weird again by having Ross be grossed out but still answering “…the red one”
(or maybe it was black I don’t remember lol)

Just watching Friends now - how slow is Monica at guessing that it's Rachel that is pregnant. Phoebe found the test, Monica knows it's not her, so OBVIOUSLY it's got to be Rachel!!
It's very out of character for her to be so slow!

On the subject of weddings, weren’t Joey’s parents meant to be there? Didn’t they may a big fuss about not being invited and Monica had to blame it on the damn post office?

Yeah, it was Rachel’s original wedding dress. Where else would she have got a wedding dress from at such short notice?

Phoebe - who was pregnant with triplets - rented hers from ‘It’s Not Too Late’ -
presumably a maternity wedding dress offering….!

Not a plot twist, but the Rachel and Joey storyline was the worst thing the writers ever did and I can’t watch those episodes as they are so bad.

It was so unbelievable. All those years when Rachel was single and footloose and Joey showed zero interest...then bam, she's pregnant with his mates baby and he falls in love with her?!

I thought the Joey falling in love with Rachel storyline was actually quite sensitively done. It was the later one where they got together for a bit that just seemed wrong but by then both had been so dumbed down it was ridiculous. Season 8 Joey would've been better with her than Ross and I stand by that!

I really didn't see this as unbelievable at all. They had always got on well and both are attractive. Joey was always about sex and then when they went on their 'fake date' he was all 'I never knew I could enjoy the non-sex part of a date so much' - this was plausible as he'd never dated a friend. It was like that triggered him into seeing her differently.

I thought they were really well suited. Rachel wasn't really that bright/intellectual and neither was Joey - although he got comedy ultra-dumbed down as the series moved on to be implausibly stupid for laughs. Rachel was Soap Opera Digest/Fashion not Evolution/Dinosaurs. She was actually a better fit with an actor.

I also found it weird that in “the city that never sleeps” there wouldn’t have been a 24 hour CVS/Walgreens that one of them could have popped out to!
