Fashion items I hate

I don’t understand why anyone likes them but it could be me/my age/body shape?

Viscose and ‘recycled polyester’. There is more and more of it around. It seems expensive, smells weird and feels horrible. Being a certain time of life it’s unbearable when having a hot moment.

Also, puff sleeves and/or shoulders. I look like a man in drag dressed as a milkmaid. Similar with anything described as boxy. Just makes me look super wide.

anyone else?

Pretty much anything currently in the shops. As a shortarse, big-breasted hourglass aged 50 there is pretty much nothing I’d wear out there.

BreviloquentBastard · 14/04/2023 12:25

I'm broad shouldered so puff sleeves do make me look like a male olympic swimmer cosplaying as Marie Antoinette.

I'm so happy flares are back though, they make my bum look great.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 14/04/2023 12:25

The puff sleeves and high necks must surely be over soon. It’s almost impossible to buy a top that’s flattering on a big bust.

And that awful scratchy polyester is vile. It’d be like wearing a crisp packet.

I've always disliked any cold shoulder top.

xogossipgirlxo · 14/04/2023 12:44

I hate jersey, I think it was evil's idea to start making clothes with this fabric. It's not flattering for anyone despite age and shape.

stbrandonsboat · 14/04/2023 12:56

Anything that resembles an enormous, shapeless potato sack. Even worse if it's in lime green or cerise and made from some hideous material. Don't get me started on bright orange leopard print either 😱

I think designers are just taking the piss out of women now.

ZittiEBuoni · 14/04/2023 13:00

I'm with @xogossipgirlxo, I made a resolution this year never to buy another jersey garment. Unless very cleverly cut and structured it hangs awfully and washes badly.

No man made fibres in summer, NONE, I don't care how eco-friendly. Cotton/linen only. The menopause commands it.

Blueuggboots · 14/04/2023 13:09

Exposed zips.
fucking tiered skirts/dresses! Everywhere!!
Skinny jeans
Elasticated trousers. Makes me laugh! Id never have been seen dead in elasticated trousers when I was younger - they're everywhere now - Zara, mango, H&M...

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 14/04/2023 13:21

Hell yes to fucking tiers everywhere.

I quite like an exposed zip though.

cocksstrideintheevening · 14/04/2023 13:22

With you on the recycled stuff, great idea but the technology isn't good enough yet. It's like wearing a plastic bag. I accidentally bought gym leggings in next that were recycled bottles. They were sliding down my legs in class

Amdone123 · 14/04/2023 13:30

Another vote for cold shoulder tops. Especially cold shoulder jumpers. You put a jumper on to get and stay warm, then there's a big bloody hole in the shoulder. Strange.
Also, skater type dresses, but don't know why !

betterlucknexttimefingerscrossed · 14/04/2023 13:31

Everything with an elastic waist band. It just seems lazy to me. You never see it on mens clothes. I have actually started buying mens trousers and having them altered to fit. Also elastic wrists on sleeves. Or anything with smocking. It just feels cheap and lazy.

Second this.

HandbagsAtDawns · 14/04/2023 13:37

Ive said this before and I'll say it again- adults wearing dungarees, makes them look like a cross between a teletubbie and a giant toddler, hideous and will be banned when I am Queen

HandbagsAtDawns · 14/04/2023 13:39

Ooh and ripped jeans, just why ???

Topictwenty · 14/04/2023 13:51

I really don’t understand the eco friendly credentials of the recycled polyester clothing. I mean I obviously understand that recycling is great, but surely every time you wash clothes previously made of plastic bottles, you release plastic microfibres into the water stream

WildCherryBlossom · 14/04/2023 14:01

You can't lump viscose on with Polyester (recycled or otherwise). It's made of wood pulp and it is breathable. Often more so than cotton or linen and drapes beautifully, Some manufacturing techniques use problematic amounts of water. Look for Ecovero viscose.

Anyway,.... my personal pet hate is the "mom" cut Jean. Mainly because that high waist makes me look like Humpty Dumpty. But also because o don't want to wear anything called "mom". Happily those are fading out off fashion a bit now. Not keen on cropped trousers either. Just make legs look shorter. Why?

latetothefisting · 14/04/2023 14:02

1 shoulder tops or dresses or bathing suits or anything
If you've got 2 feet you don't just wear 1 shoe or 1 sock
If you've got 2 legs you don't wear shorts or trousers that just cover 1 off them
If you've got 2 shoulders and arms either both or neither of them should be covered! It just looks wrong plus is impossible to wear a proper bra underneath

latetothefisting · 14/04/2023 14:02

Oh and also crocs or sandals with socks

That used to be the height of uncool middle aged man on holiday look now everyone under 30 is wearing it and it looks ridiculous!

WildCherryBlossom · 14/04/2023 14:04

100% with you on one shoulder stuff. Was swimsuit shopping recently and loads of one shoulder styles around.

CeliaCanth · 14/04/2023 14:05

Anything with a peplum. Arse is big enough as it is, thanks, without drawing attention to the damned thing.

Isanyoneup · 14/04/2023 14:06

Everything. As a tall, hour glass curvy woman nothing fits. I hate the fabrics and I hate the patterns.

IhearyouClemFandango · 14/04/2023 14:06

Tiers. Many a nice dress ruined by a tier.

manontroppo · 14/04/2023 14:08

Tiers.
Recycled anything.
Sweetheart necklines, unless you’re under 25.

Isanyoneup · 14/04/2023 14:09

Where are you finding sweetheart necklines? I can't find them or V necks anywhere! It's all scoop necks, cowl necks and square lines. Very suffocating if you have boobs!
