What's the most stuck up place you've been to?

Having just recently seen a video of a young man doing a video of Farnham on TikTok saying it's Tory and stuck up etc.

I was wondering if you've come across any town that has had stuck up people and what was your thoughts on such a place?

Not a town per se, but a specific shop in town.

I was given a gift card for MAC for the Christmas I moved to Glasgow, I'm from a poorer family so I only really ever get my makeup from Superdrug or Boots lol.

I literally left the place in tears it was that stuck up and overwhelming.

Chiswick

Hated York.

Full of nothing but rude entitled people.

York a big place. What's your sample size to make this assumption?

Santasjingleballs · 13/04/2023 21:55

Scunthorpe

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 13/04/2023 21:55

I don’t think I’ve ever found anywhere intimidatingly posh or particularly stuck up. But I didn’t like Haye on Wye anywhere near as much as I thought I would. It felt incredibly smug.

@Renodakota Great username! That’s my earworm for the evening sorted.

Not a town but Islington, lived there for a while and the looks you got when walking into the bars there. So up their own arses.

I was born and bred there, I can tell you it was a massive shite hole in the 70s 80s and 90s, you would not have went out when dark. The three storey houses that are worth millions now, were mostly derelict with squatters living there years. Couldnt believe when I went back there ten years ago how much it has changed.

A small village close to Yeovil in Somerset… spent a summer there about 30 years ago, me DH and DC aged 18 months.
A lot of new money and Range Rovers… we were frozen out of baby groups, nobody spoke to us and I cried to go home. Utterly miserable.

Sherborne?

Scunthorpe

Stands to reason. There's a 'cunt' in the middle of it ...

Itakecreaminmycoffee · 13/04/2023 21:56

Bingo! My home town has been mentioned.

Funnily enough one of the reasons I love living here is how polite and friendly everyone is - much nicer than the rudeness and aggression I had to face daily in the grotty WC area I grew up in.

Atethehalloweenchocs · 13/04/2023 21:56

I went to uni with some very very wealthy people and aristocrats and found they covered the range from ' nice friendly person who takes people as I find them', all the way to, 'I have not known you since infant school and know your family pedigree going back 300 years therefore you are worse than dirt on my shoe'. So echo that it is not post per se that makes people act like superior dicks. For places - walking around both Berkhamsted and Muswell Hill were fine. But in groups of people who lived there, it was made very clear I was an inferior being. But it was ok, because I found most of them pretentious knobs.

Weirdly, Brighton. I’ve only visited once and was quite looking forward to it. Got out of the station and a young (very trendy looking) girl turned round and said ‘excuse me!’ When I accidentally nudged her foot with my suitcase, and looked at me as if I was dirt she’d scraped off her shoe. It was a weird mix of pretentious looking, hipster youngsters and then lots of a lots of poverty and homelessness alongside…strange atmosphere

I went to university there many moons ago and absolutely recognise this description! It thinks it’s so liberal and progressive but in my experience it really isn’t. Did have some truly debauched nights out down there mind you 😁

Atethehalloweenchocs · 13/04/2023 21:57

posh, not post! Bloody autocorrect.

Aldeburgh if that's how you spell it. It's where Harry Enfield got his character that runs the shop with expensive shit in it from I'm sure.

Yes. And the beach is crap too.

And you wonder why some think you are stuck up?

It’s fine to be rude about one class of people. But not another?

So odd to prefer ‘polite and friendly’ over ‘rude and aggressive’……

IsthisreallyacceptableMN · 13/04/2023 22:00

Have reported this entire thread for discrimination.

Assuming you all know what that is

Busbygirl · 13/04/2023 22:00

Hale in Cheshire.
Full of 4 by 4s, footballer’s wives, private schools and people who think they’re better than you 🙄.

SandyLanes · 13/04/2023 22:00

Loads of stuck up people in Sevenoaks who seem to think it’s the centre of the world.

NotHooray · 13/04/2023 22:00

Lewes. It's a few miles down the road from where I grew up, and I briefly went to college there. It just has a bit of an odd feel to it.

Richmond (Surrey), extremely snobby and elite-ish.

I quite like Richmond although a few people I know who live there are always raving about the benefits of living in London & the diversity etc. I'm like you live in Richmond!!! 😆

I like Richmond too, it's not snobby at all. I love Blakeney and Cley in Norfolk too.

I find Bridport up its own arse and it's bizarre as it's a bit of a shit hole really.

Ditchling in East Sussex. All of them up their own bum holes.

Chichester and Horsham are lovely.

I came on to say Bitchling but you got here first. East Chiltington is a close, albeit niche, second.

defi · 13/04/2023 22:02

We use an abbreviation at work "TFL which means typical for lytham. Rude entitled and up themselves.

Couldyounot · 13/04/2023 22:02

Couple of places spring to mind:

Salcombe. I'm sure it wasn't in the 90s. Pity because it's a lovely part of the world.

Menton (French riviera coast, east of Monaco). Stayed a couple of nights on a driving holiday once. I don't know how somewhere as sunny as that can be as full of rude wankers, and miserable ones at that
