Nostalgia thread...who else misses the Easter eggs they had as a kid?

So much more variety and inventiveness in packaging than today.

I know that demand and supply and profit mean the range has narrowed and changed over the years. But I miss the types of eggs we had as a kid.

Oh those pictures take me back! I agree, r they were much more fun then! And the extra goodies being INSIDE the eggs!

MagicClawHasNoChildren · 09/04/2023 15:09

Same. The old Cadbury ones with the pretty flower picture on them were somehow the most delicious chocolate ever made, even more so than old Dairy Milk, which was still pretty good.

I don't miss some of the old non-food brand 'brandwagon', as I think of them, eggs. I had a Bang On The Door one once, I think, that was so terrible that even I, a hardened chocoholic, couldn't choke it down.

Also, I miss the mugs. Who remembers kitchens entirely populated by Smarties/Dairy Milk/Yorkie/Kit-Kat mugs? Happy days.

Gatekeeper · 09/04/2023 15:23

They were great weren't they? Fun and colourful!

This takes me back! Yes to the exclusively Easter egg mug collection!

I still have and cherish two Garfield mugs obtained as a kid in this way.

That's making a back. DC have got eggs with the sweets inside the eggs instead of a separate plastic bag (Smarties, Mini Eggs, and Buttons ones).

Florissant · 09/04/2023 15:34

Me! My neighbours used to give me a coconut cream egg and I've not been able to find the like for ages. It wasn't like a Bounty; the filling was absolutely solid and you had to gnaw your way through it.

Tryingtogetitright · 09/04/2023 15:39

My kids got mini-eggs eggs with a mug in this year. Makes me very happy! And smaller mini-eggs egg has mini-eggs inside the larger chocolate egg. Much better than previous years! I miss the creative boxes, loved yorkie and lion bar boxes. Still have a bang on the door mug from an egg 20+ years ago. But agree the chocolate was gross!

Imridiculous · 09/04/2023 15:43

I miss the sweets being inside the egg but not the plastic. I love the sound of that rattle of the sweets inside the chocolate shell.
I also miss the size they were.
Some of the small ones that arrived with my home shopping this year we’re nearly half the size they were last year but actually had a 25% price hike to boot!

mrswhiplington · 09/04/2023 15:44

I used to love opening up the egg and finding the chocolates inside in a little bag. I was a child of the 60s, so not as much variety as today. Usually just Cadbury's, Nestle and Smarties.

CaptainCallisto · 09/04/2023 15:44

My parents' caravan has all the old Easter mugs in it. I was lamenting the lack of eggs with mugs a few days ago!

missfliss · 09/04/2023 15:45

YADNBU those eggs ( every single one except Roses) were all in my childhood and were packaged much more beautifully than now

Bemyclementine · 09/04/2023 15:46

Dc have had Cadbury buttons and mini eggs eggs with the good ON THE INSIDE. This made me very happy indeed!

Northernsouloldies · 09/04/2023 15:47

Born mid 60s grew up in 70s, Easter egg with a cup was a real treat. 😁

Northernsouloldies · 09/04/2023 15:48

Not the huge boxes of today n tiny egg inside.

GreenClock · 09/04/2023 15:52

I love a retro Easter egg thread. And the selection box ones at Christmas.

DHsPoorBack · 09/04/2023 15:54

DNan used to get us this long pack of 7 caramel filled eggs (creme egg sized) and the box was often the 7 dwarves. They were in jewel coloured pink, purple and orange foil.

Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Not derailing thread from Easter. Loved Xmas selection stocking filled with full sized bars not the miniscule versions of today.

saltrock123 · 09/04/2023 15:59

Used to get 12 eggs in a box that looked like a cuckoo clock in the Seventies, anyone remember ?

sdg31000 · 09/04/2023 16:05

I still mourn the loss of the crème egg size eggs that were filled with caramel and marshmallow. I used to get one whenever I went into the local newsagents with my Mom.

I remember getting a sleeve of eggs from my nana too. There were ones like this and also ones where the foil was decorated like ladybirds or other animals, think they were mallow filled?

Yes, I remember the caramel seven dwarves eggs! Miss them!

Tryingtogetitright · 09/04/2023 16:11

Cadbury Caramel eggs (creme egg sized) are a tasty alternative this year...

Iam4eels · 09/04/2023 16:14

Does anyone remember the After Eight Easter egg shaped like a carriage clock?

And the Fruit Pastille ones where, instead of them being round and flat, they were shaped like actually fruits? I think there was a Fruit Gums one too.

PussBilledDuckyPlait · 09/04/2023 16:14

I always seemed to get a Smarties egg from my parents. My grandparents would give my sister and me a box of three Creme Eggs each (proper Creme Eggs in the green, red and blue wrappers, not the rubbish ones we have now).

At primary school there was a tradition that you'd make a woven paper nest and cotton-wool chicks, which would be displayed in the classroom, and then when you came to take it home for the holidays, it would be 'magically' filled with those pastel coloured sugar eggs.😃

I'm trying to remember, were the smarties loose inside the egg or in bags? Either way, they were a lot more exciting.
