Nostalgia thread...who else misses the Easter eggs they had as a kid?

So much more variety and inventiveness in packaging than today.

I know that demand and supply and profit mean the range has narrowed and changed over the years. But I miss the types of eggs we had as a kid.

We had a Smarties calculator for years. Can’t remember if it came with an egg or not, would have been the early 90s.

Smarties eggs with the coloured foil were fab.

I unboxed the various ones that the DC got this morning and they are almost all gold, with the occasional Cadbury purple. Not much variety at all.

I always liked the Cadbury eggs with the nice picture on. I’d nibble around the edge and try to keep the pretty bit until last. Don’t remember many others, but I do remember one particular relative who always got us new socks for Easter.

Yep I said the exact same thing to my husband. Easter eggs are so boring now

Oh I loved these.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 10/04/2023 07:35

Yes, in two halves with e.g. Smarties inside.

evilharpy · 10/04/2023 09:14

I don't actually like chocolate anymore and haven't eaten it for years, but I feel far less nostalgic for long lost Easter eggs than I do for the Christmas stockings in those net packages that contained Marathon bars and Opal Fruits.

lollipoprainbow · 10/04/2023 09:22

Used to love the eggs that came in two half's and had the lovely rabbit flower inscription on the chocolate. Easter eggs now are very underwhelming !

Willowtre1 · 10/04/2023 09:45

@UndercoverCop I remember plastic rabbits with a clear body that had little eggs in. Played with the rabbits for ages after

I loved those stockings! I noticed this past year that some of the selection packs now come in a cardboard stocking shape - not quite the same but at least it’s a nod to the net stockings of yesteryear!

MagicClawHasNoChildren · 10/04/2023 16:06

@TeamSleep

Yes I really remember this and wish they’d bring it back. I also seem to remember Cadbury’s eggs came in two separated halves rather than joined together which made it easier to eat.

Yes! I was mourning this yesterday as I stoved my Cadbury Finger egg in. Bring back the thick, chunky, two-part picture eggs!

This should be a MN campaign.

Used to get 12 eggs in a box that looked like a cuckoo clock in the Seventies, anyone remember ?

Yes I had one.

JenniferBooth · 10/04/2023 22:29

I bought my DM the Sainsburys Taste the Difference Tiramisu egg. For this Easter obvs She loves it.

CementTrucker · 10/04/2023 22:41

Fond memories of pyramint eggs. Just a standard egg packaged with pyramint chocolates but somehow the branded box made it all more than the sum of its parts.

Creme eggs back when they were nice are greatly missed too.

I’d forgotten about those packs of mackintosh toffee eggs until this thread. They were delicious!

The plastic tray had a very definite squeak that I liked.
