'90s and early 2000s reality tv shows

Does anyone else remember when reality tv shows were becoming popular? Things like Driving School. Remember Maureen? And Life of Grime with Mr Trebus? He had such a sad story.

There was one about the residents of a particular street but I can't remember what it was called now.

Can anyone remember any others?

@CurlsandCurves , I was watching Holiday Reps recently on you tube. In the comments section was Eve and Andreas' daughter. She said her parents had gotten divorced but were getting married again. And yes, the first ever Big Brother was great. I think all the reality shows were great in the beginning because no one was looking for fame ! Big Brother just got dafter with each series !
I loved Airline. And Shattered was fascinating !
Oh, and Model Behaviour. It was much better than Britain's Next Top Model. I'm not sure why, it just was !

Haven't a clue what the name of it, was called ?

I rember Adephelli hotel in Liverpool staff one

I rember another one another deserted island abroad with youngish people competing against each other on a different island,
On a Saturday in the morning or afternoon...

Don't know the name of this one too?

Phos · 07/04/2023 20:49

Loved Airport and Airline so much.

Others that spring to mind - Playing It Straight, was on channel 4 early noughties, there was a woman and about a dozen blokes on a ranch in Mexico, it was a bit like the Bachelorette except some of the blokes were gay and if she picked one of those they took all the money. Also there was Holiday Showdown where two different families went on holiday with each other and inevitably hated the other family and wherever it was they went.

Shipwrecked?

Amdone123 · 07/04/2023 20:51

@CassTheFox , we cross posted. Model Behaviour - loved it. @Phos , Holiday Showdown was hilarious.

Goodread1 · 07/04/2023 20:52

I can relate to your mumsnet username too,

I think with me it's down to my age I am almost 50 yrs

Amdone123 · 07/04/2023 20:53

@Goodread1 , yes, Shipwrecked. I'm sure that's how Jade Goody's ex, made his name. The father of her 2 sons....Jeff Brazier.

MyopicBunny · 07/04/2023 20:55

I also loved The Osbournes and Newlyweds. Poor Jessica Simpson - her husband didn't treat her very well. All came out later - at least she found the right one in the end.

Pop Stars was the first reality making pop stars TV show that ended up with HearSay as the winners wasn't it?

Hobbes8 · 07/04/2023 20:55

Holiday showdown! I’d totally forgotten that one. Also coach trip where they brutally voted off whoever they didn’t like.

Goodread1 · 07/04/2023 20:55

Ah yeah Shipwreaked tv reality series it must have been then,
Really got quite into that tv series at the time

I just remembered Faking It. Did anyone else watch that? They had to convince experts that they were professional conductors/DJs/Drag queens etc.

Loved Faking It

MorehouseplantsPls · 07/04/2023 20:57

Was Shipwrecked the Shark Island and ??? Island one on channel 4?
loved that show.

Lastnamedidntstick · 07/04/2023 20:59

CassTheFox · 07/04/2023 20:47

The first series of Shipwrecked was absolutely brilliant.

Anyone remember Model Behaviour?

Is that the one where they put a group of aspiring models in a london flat and followed them round? I liked that one.

I remember the very first season of big brother where nobody knew if anyone would watch it- the housemates thought it was just a “cut off from the world houseshare” type experiment.

there was another houseshare one too?

I also remember one following a group of trans people long before the whole trans thing was what it is now. They came across as lovely people with gender dysphoric. None of this victim or actually thinking they could change sex.

Goodread1 · 07/04/2023 20:59

@Hobbes8

Ah I had forget about those tv reality series

I liked Brendan coach driver and the various different activities they did as part of their holiday break travelling on the coach

It looked fun

In reality the thought of being on a coach that long travelling around
I would find too much and feel cramped...

WeAreTheHeroes · 07/04/2023 20:59

Castaway was the one Ben Fogle won. I remember watching Shipwrecked and the early Big Brothers.

Goodread1 · 07/04/2023 21:01

I got into Big Brother too,

I didn't see all Big Brother tv series though

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 07/04/2023 21:01

I was really gutted to see in the adverts for new big brother contestants -'are you larger than life' and 'are you a real character'? We don't want that. We want normal people!! And ITV had promised it would go back to its roots! 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻

JoanJettsMullet · 07/04/2023 21:01

Anyone remember the Tourist Trap? They set up fake situations at holiday resorts and then analysed how different nationalities reacted or something?! They had Brits, Germans, Japanese people etc. I’m sure one was they pretended that the coach driver was drunk driving.

Goodread1 · 07/04/2023 21:04

I really like those tv series in which a couple set up a life abroad renovating a olde house building and run some kind of business

Sometimes or now and again have families too do this it's like a big adventure for them, the highs the lows they experince and of course the challenges

ilovepixie · 07/04/2023 21:05

I loved sacked where a person got a job and they had to get sacked by a certain time. Also lost where contestants in groups of 2 were dropped in a remote location somewhere in the world. They didn't know where they were and had no maps or money or phones and the first couple to get back to Leicester Square won.

CaptainHammer · 07/04/2023 21:06

I loved Shipwrecked and The Osbornes!

The Simple Life

ChessieFL · 07/04/2023 21:07

Someone upthread mentioned The 1900s House - I also really liked this. There was another one called The 1940s House. The precursors to the Back In Time For… series.

Goodread1 · 07/04/2023 21:07

@JoanJettsMullet

Oh yes
Quite interesting psychology behind that TV series
The Tourist Trap

How different people from various cultures react to different kinds of situations they encounter along the way ect

I had forgotten about that tv series

SpreadableCheeseOnEverything · 07/04/2023 21:07

I loved Ibiza Uncovered and Holiday Reps
