Have you been to a place no one else has been to?

I'll start. The idea is you name the place and a fellow MNer has to say if they've been there. However, you don't have to wait until you've been somewhere to post. Post your places and you'll meet the MNers who've been there. You can post 1-3 places (random numbers).

I've been to:

Rwanda
The Whisundays
Cathedral Grove (Vancouver Island)

I really fancy Bonaire.

I've been to receptions in No 10 and Buckingham Palace and stayed in Windsor Castle. And I've presented a speech in Sydney Opera House.

Can't claim those, but do have some of the non-public bits of Kensington Palace: the costume stores and the courtyard for the private royal apartments (security had to check Diana was out before I was allowed through, the Kents being at home wasn't a problem).

I claimed Chiloe, just remembered Villarica in Chile too. And Antofagasta in the north of Chile.

While we’re on the topic of Chile, someone mentioned these places earlier, which I’ve also been to:

Pablo Neruda’s house in Isla Negra, Chile.
San Pedro de Atacama

Adding on Valparaiso, Chile to the list

@Mumtobabyhavoc

Yes I remember reading about that trip from Corfu. I think the place in Albania was Girokaster but not sure. It was described as a museum town. Mind you so where a lot of other places!

When I went there were stooges hanging out in the hotel listening in on our conversations! Not discreet at all! Soldiers stopped the locals from talking to us as well. Mind you, when a Greek lady and her Grandson sat on a bench beside me we couldn't converse in each other's language! We just sat and smiled and when the soldier's actions got too annoying, they left!

An elderly Irish woman likened it to Southern Ireland (visually, not politically!).

One day our coach driver was driving quite erratically in the dark. He had had a few sherberts celebrating his daughter's birth!

Funny how they told us they sell electricity as they did not have much light!

Paving stones up and if not careful you could fall down a drain!!

Some women where washing clothes in a stream while our guide told us everyone had a washing machine!

Wonderful scenery. The river po flows through from Italy. On a hot day it looked so inviting. Clear blue green and polluted as fuck from Italian industry (lot of Albanians work over the border.

@Deathraystare Il have to see if I still have the ferry ticket. It's bugging me now that. I cam't remember. When we arrived a tour bus took us to the town yo change money and have lunch. Changing money consisted of sitting down at the corner table with a rather large guy who had a cash box. 😯
Then it was a rather contrived (forced?) stroll along the water front to see the tourist vendors little shops, some were just tables set up bazaar style. I had made friend of an American girl I had met at a backpackers and she and I decided to wander off on our own and told the guide we'd meet back at the bus.
The neighbourhoods were deserted. We were looking around and saw people peeking at us through closed curtains!!!! 🫣
Then, on a corner across the street was the money changer. Just standing there in front of another care of sorts holding wads of cash in how hands. Bills folded length-wise in between his fingers without a care in the world. We figured out pretty quickly it was a mob-controlled town. 😯

LarkDescending · 11/04/2023 20:24

When we did the day excursion from Corfu to Albania in 1995 the city we went to was Sarandë, and we were then taken on a minibus to Butrint.

LarkDescending · 11/04/2023 20:25

…and we were pursued everywhere by hordes of children wanting money and/or sweets!

Clavinova · 11/04/2023 21:26

I've been to Bonaire as well - on an island-hopping holiday to the ABC Islands - Aruba, Bonaire & Curaçao - fab.
