Have you been to a place no one else has been to?

I'll start. The idea is you name the place and a fellow MNer has to say if they've been there. However, you don't have to wait until you've been somewhere to post. Post your places and you'll meet the MNers who've been there. You can post 1-3 places (random numbers).

I've been to:

Rwanda
The Whisundays
Cathedral Grove (Vancouver Island)

Embley tower wins though, surely.

Thanks, that was me. A great irony in a thread full of people falling over themselves to show off about their travels to the far reaches of the seven continents, I could be the only Mumsnetter who has been up a tall building just outside Wakefield.

I was also going to offer up the WW1 battleships that were sunk in Scapa Flow but seeing how many divers there are on this thread that was probably equally as overrun with us as that place in Australia that was on the first page that I can't remember the name of.

Egypt
Bermuda
Gibraltar
Huish Episcopi

All south of Grantham but in the UK.

I've been to Bermuda near Nuneaton for a meeting.

As for Huish, since we visited, DH has a very bad joke culminating in a rendition of "A kind of Huish", so at home, it is the Place That Dare Not Speak Its Name.

You won the thread for me with Emley Mast @BarbaraofSeville. So envious.

cafecreme · 07/04/2023 11:06

I’ve been to Paraty, Brazil and Isla del Sol on Lake Titicaca mentioned on last page.

HuggingtheHRT · 07/04/2023 11:07

@NeedToKnow101 - were you one of the people who ended up in Gander, Newfoundland?

SqueakyDinosaur · 07/04/2023 11:15

Krak des Chevaliers Castle in Syria

Pforzheim in Germany (don't bother)

Trabzon in Turkey.

SinnerBoy · 07/04/2023 11:20

Fair Isle.
Sakhalinsk - grimly fascinating.
Cheyrin Canyon, Kazakhstan.

Also sailed through the Kiel Canal and mapping the nuclear bomb crater on the seabed, East of Barrow Island - we were hiding from bad weather.

MrsHamlet · 07/04/2023 11:26

My sister lived in Pforzheim for a while. I won't be hurrying back!

Furries · 07/04/2023 11:53

@ThisIsNotAmerican - used to see Egypt every so often as a kid, on the way to Burnham Beeches.

I live in an area where there is some really dense brush/undergrowth on steep and relatively inaccessible mountains. In fact I'm sure there is a great deal of terrain like this in the world. Sometimes I look at it from afar and wonder if human feet have ever touched that part of the earth.

Odessa, Texas
Midland, Texas
Belle Fourche, South Dakota
Sturgis, the week before the motorcycle rally. That was mad!

I'm from far west Texas.
A few family members live in Midland/Odessa so I've visited several times.

marriednotdead · 07/04/2023 13:06

Currently in Cairns, was on Whitehaven Beach earlier in the week and on Magnetic Island the day before yesterday, clearly following the hoardes of MNetters! Nobody but us at Balding Bay Beach though.
Have also been to Mandeville in Jamaica but not as recently.

Sandy! And a bugger to get to! But fascinating- was about 25 years ago so may have changed- but would still be a bigger to get to I imagine...

Diplidocus4 · 07/04/2023 13:49

Cocos islands , will think of a couple more

Izzy54321 · 07/04/2023 14:35

Thank You, I’ve not been to many of the places mentioned either like Australia or Africa so a new bucket list is being made.

I'd like to go to Inari one day.

It's a lovely place to visit. Small , friendly and so much to do on the lake all year round.

blueshoes · 07/04/2023 14:50

MrsTerryPratchett · 07/04/2023 01:27

Layovers count @Andylion

Otherwise I haven't been to a few places I 'count'.

Not for the purposes of life, but for the purposes of this thread. Grin

In that case, I have been to Acapulco in Mexico. Just amazing to land on a small landing strip over the endless brilliant whitest sand and bluest sea and sky.

blueshoes · 07/04/2023 14:54

cheapskatemum · 07/04/2023 10:35

@blueshoes I've been to Donetsk. It was looking lovely. That was about a year before it was bombed 😕.

😔Don't want to think what Russian-occupied Donetsk is like now. Totally senseless war.

JassyRadlett · 07/04/2023 15:02

I am so late to this excellent thread. Sorry Mrs TP, I've got the Whitsundays too. But then I'm a Queenslander... Also got Rwanda.

My three:

  1. Kisangani in the DRC
  2. Boigu Island in the Torres Strait
  3. Bujumbura in Burundi
IForgotMyUsernameAgain · 07/04/2023 15:19

Ooty in India would be my most remote.

Don't think Dunedin in NZ has been mentioned yet.

I'm also going to throw in Brigham in West Cumbria.

User1234567891011121314 · 07/04/2023 15:26
