Have you been to a place no one else has been to?

I'll start. The idea is you name the place and a fellow MNer has to say if they've been there. However, you don't have to wait until you've been somewhere to post. Post your places and you'll meet the MNers who've been there. You can post 1-3 places (random numbers).

I've been to:

Rwanda
The Whisundays
Cathedral Grove (Vancouver Island)

Oooh - you've reminded me: I went to the glow worm caves when I was on a school trip in NZ (lived there for a couple of year as a teenager). They're fabulous Smile

I’ve been there too. Amazing.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 07/04/2023 09:24

Bolton - it doesn't count if you live there

I've been for work 😁

PolkaDotMankini · 07/04/2023 09:29

@Lovegossip I went to the Giant's Causeway a few years ago with DH. The colours were spectacularly vibrant and I fell asleep in a wingback chair at the pub at the top 😁

I've also been to Bolton for a party and Singapore for work.

MrsHamlet · 07/04/2023 09:32

I've been to Columbus, Ohio. And the Giant's Causeway.

This making my passport itch!

It is beautiful. I have been there a few times

DH proposed there as well 🥰

Pp surprised that places aren't mentioned more... the whole point is to name places others haven't been to 🤦‍♀️

But it is rather lovely to find people who have been to the same less common places. @Devilledchicken what took you to Beppu?

Landofhappiness · 07/04/2023 10:01

Inari

BarrelOfOtters · 07/04/2023 10:12

@Devilledchicken ive been to Beppu, on the night ferry, so much fun.

Notarealmum · 07/04/2023 10:13

Not sure who mentioned it but I’ve been to Pismo Beach (San Luis Obispo is one of my favourite towns in California)
Also Takamatsu

My three I don’t think anyone has mentioned yet:
Paraty in Brazil
Putuoshan Island, China
Chhlong, Cambodia

BarrelOfOtters · 07/04/2023 10:14

@Awumminnscotland been to Irkutsk, 20 years ago mind you…trans Siberian railway.

BarrelOfOtters · 07/04/2023 10:14

@Notarealmum what were you doing in takamatsu? I used to live there.

Trans Mongolian! I would love to do the others, always wanted to get the ferry from Vladivostok to Japan as well.

Sorry, no prizes to the PPs who has Luxembourg, Rotoroa, and Larne. I've got all those, too.

@MaryBoggintonTrotterSmyke I did the ferry, then train up to Kyoto. Deep.winter all the way through Russia (Lake Baikal and the sea at Vladivostok were both frozen solid), emerging in Japan at the height of cherry blossom season.

The Trans Sib is quite different from the Trans Mongolian. Not the same freling of being on a tourist train - far more locals and people getting on and off, although they stuck all the foreigners in 1 section, so that helped with finding people to chat to.

I've been to Bogotá.

Also Vilcabamba, Ecuador.

Merida, Venezuela. Before financial disaster. It had a famous ice cream shop with 1000s of flavours.

ShakeYourFeathers · 07/04/2023 10:23

Can I also add I've been to South Luanga National Park in Zambia

Has anyone been to Timbuktu??

Notarealmum · 07/04/2023 10:26

@BarrelOfOtters, just part of our travels around Japan, we were there for a couple of months about ten years ago.

Devilledchicken · 07/04/2023 10:27

@LaViajera, Lived and worked in Japan for a while, along with visits many times before that, so really did get to see a lot of Japan.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 07/04/2023 10:29

You can, @ShakeYourFeathers, but I already mentioned it a few pages ago. Also Lower Zambezi NP 😊

LarkDescending · 06/04/2023 19:20

@cheapskatemum in Nanyuki - being bang on the Equator - did you do the thing of watching the water go straight down the plughole rather than swirling in one direction or the other? I ended up in the Cottage Hospital there for a while, after a riding accident. The water thing seemed strangely fascinating!

@JimmyDurham did you stay at the wonderful Fleischers Hotel in Voss? We skiied in Voss a few times in my childhood. I’d love to visit it in the summer.

It wasn't me who's been to Nanyuki, sadly. I would have done that for sure, if I had.

Ahh sorry! Must have missed your post. Also went to Lower Zambezi NP on the same trip

cheapskatemum · 07/04/2023 10:35

@blueshoes I've been to Donetsk. It was looking lovely. That was about a year before it was bombed 😕.

Did you enjoy Kuantan?

Used to visit Kuantun quite regularly for work. The hotel that was badly run on the beach...The Hyatt.

Didn't enjoy it apart from the restaurant the German guy ran with his local wife. Can't remember the name.

Devilledchicken · 07/04/2023 10:44

@Arapawa , Yes the Hyatt became very run down as well and damp view was nice over the South China sea though.

Ah the German guy I remember him opened the restaurant with a local guy, just up from Shannagans Bar on that little strip not far from the Hyatt.
