Have you been to a place no one else has been to?

I'll start. The idea is you name the place and a fellow MNer has to say if they've been there. However, you don't have to wait until you've been somewhere to post. Post your places and you'll meet the MNers who've been there. You can post 1-3 places (random numbers).

I've been to:

Rwanda
The Whisundays
Cathedral Grove (Vancouver Island)

@Limetart - I've been to Mackinac Island, Michigan! Worked at a summer camp nearby. I don't like American fudge.

I’ve been to Aqaba but not Azraq. Did you go diving/snorkelling? Swimming over a plane in the gulf of Aqaba has got to be one of the most surreal moments of my life!

Sadly, no. I did go out in of the glass-bottomed boats though 😁
I actually did very little in Aqaba, I was there for a few days to decompress between two three-month stints in Ramallah. I would love to go back and do some snorkeling!

GeraltsBathtub · 06/04/2023 17:04

Ah that sounds intense! I’d thoroughly recommend it - we went in January and the water temperature was gorgeous, and we saw clownfish😊

cheapskatemum · 06/04/2023 17:09

@Mumtobabyhavoc - I've been to all the places you mention, except Montana. As I'm watching Yellowstone at the moment I really want to go there.

prettybird · 06/04/2023 17:10

@Andylion - we used to take our two Siamese cats (initially just one but then we got a second one) on holiday with us: in the car with us with 4 bikes on the roof rack of our Renault 4 (later a Renault 5), which was lifted by crane onto the old Claymore (before the days of RORO ferries). we used to rent a cottage.

Once one of them disappeared on the island and the whole island was looking out for him. He was discovered by the postman sitting peacefully on a lobster creel. Grin

You can only have Senegal if there was a French Foreign Legion presence there when you visited - if you managed to acquire a FFL cap then you win everything!

There was a `FFL base in Djibouti and the cap cost me my uniform cap in a swap do I win

I've been to the deepest, darkest receses of my mind. No-one else has been there and if they did, they would never return to tell the tale...............

cheapskatemum · 06/04/2023 17:17

Aw, @MerryHen, DH & I have a fondness for Thorpeness & go there every time we have a hankering for a beach trip as we live about 18 miles inland. I've also been to Lundy Island - took a group of year 9s on a school trip. I think we saw the puffin Grin

marcopront · 06/04/2023 17:18

Are you following me?

When were you in Moshi?

I was in Moshi about 15 years ago, but India was a later date!

midsomermurderess · 06/04/2023 17:21

@cheapskatemum @photoshop the warm springs were fun, weren’t they. It was a long time ago, but I remember they had a strong current, kind of swept you along. A bunch of us were messing about there at night, woke up the next morning in the campsite to hear that Thatcher had resigned. Whoop!

That sounds like a lot of fun!

@marcopront I did regular teacher training / train the trainer sessions on Zanzibar, often went for weekend breaks (lived in Dar) and got married there.
If you're there now there used to be a great cafe in Stone Town that was owned by the same people that had the Stone Town B&B (can't remember the name of it now)....they did fabulous coconut toast.

cheapskatemum · 06/04/2023 17:27

@Natsku I've been to St Petersburg, DH was working there around 1993.

yodaforpresident · 06/04/2023 17:29

@Mumtobabyhavoc how about Pismo Beach in California for small town America? Very pretty on a cliff top and about 10 miles from San Luis Obispo. Or Evaston in Illinois - beautiful, small city on Lake Michigan outside Chicago.

cheapskatemum · 06/04/2023 17:36

@HuntingoftheSnark my friend's parents ran a pub in Good Easter Essex, we drive through High Easter when we went to visit.

There's also a Bendigo near Colchester. Blink and you miss it. I'd like to go to the one in Oz though.

cheapskatemum · 06/04/2023 17:46

@Swimminginthelake I've been to Somotu & Sokutu State. Blimmin' hot, it was!

I might win:

Antarctica
Rapa Nui (Easter Island)
Qaqortoq, Greenland

And then one for luck:
Spitsbergen, Norway

If anyone else has been there, then I know what job you did/place you worked at!

I've been to Rapa Nui (Easter Island)
