Have you been to a place no one else has been to?

I'll start. The idea is you name the place and a fellow MNer has to say if they've been there. However, you don't have to wait until you've been somewhere to post. Post your places and you'll meet the MNers who've been there. You can post 1-3 places (random numbers).

I've been to:

Rwanda
The Whisundays
Cathedral Grove (Vancouver Island)

Silverton ✅
Durango ✅

I really need some other countries in my list

I've been there! Went on the Durango-Silverton railroad, got a cinder in my eye and missed a lot of spectacular scenery!

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 06/04/2023 16:17

Of the ones already mentioned I've been to: Karlstad, Halifax (NS), Hobbiton, Swaziland, Mongolia, Kamloops, Saskatoon, Moscow, Peterhof, St Petersburg, Formentera, Krasnoyarsk, Katoomba, Lewis, Harris.

Not yet claimed by anyone (I think):

  • Vorovoro, Fiji
  • Ulan Ude, Buryatia, Russia
  • Donghae, South Korea

*Technically under my (frankly terrible) rules, if you've seen the moon from a boat it counts.

I have. I claim the moon.*

🤣 It might end up being the most claimed place on this thread with that rule. And it means I can claim two Moons then I guess. 😁

And @BridieConvert - it's worth it literally just to say you've been to The Moon. It's honestly the tiniest street with just a few houses. The street sign I'm sure is just under one for JM Barrie's birthplace. I once saw a house for sale there and I'd love trying to explain that it's the real address to someone. 😁

Amazing @Tarkan will definitely go looking out for it soon! Been planning on taking the kids to the park in kirrie anyway so could do it then!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 06/04/2023 16:19

@PolkaDotMankini I'm surprised I didn't see Las Vegas on more lists! I've been about 20x - but it's an easy trip from here.

@maranella Have you really also been to these same places as I have??? I am a bit suspect (or, I misread?) with the use of the slashes that were the same as my post...or have you been following me? 🤓🙃

Mt St Helens, Oregon coast, Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, LA/Hollywood/Burbank, Maui, Miami, Chicago, Montana, Idaho,

I forgot to add San Francisco to my list of American cities. I'd love to hear about any random small town visits anyone has done.

Tarkan · 06/04/2023 16:22

@BridieConvert - you'll have to take a photo of the street sign just for me. 😁 I haven't been to Kirrie for ages but I assume it's not been stolen or anything recently. 🤣 It's probably the most boring place ever really, a couple of houses and a street sign, but at least there's other stuff in Kirrie to do as well. I just like the silliness of saying I've been to The Moon. 😁

Youdoyoubabe · 06/04/2023 16:26

Sorry no win with Rwanda. I have been there.

Bimini Island, Bahamas
Muskoka, Canada
Martha's vineyard, USA

Arapawa · 06/04/2023 16:28

The point of this was to find places where you don't think anyone else on MN would be. Not flipping tourist attractions like Angkor Watt or Grand Canaria

MrsHamlet · 06/04/2023 16:29

Odessa, Texas
Midland, Texas
Belle Fourche, South Dakota
Sturgis, the week before the motorcycle rally. That was mad!

Fiderer · 06/04/2023 16:32

Frankenstein, Germany
Mineralnye Vody, Russia ("mineral waters" and foul they were)
Hel, Poland. Irritated my fellow passengers by often saying "We're on the road to hell. Which, to be fair, we were.

Andylion · 06/04/2023 16:32

yodaforpresident · 06/04/2023 14:02

I'll have another go and see how long they last....

Hoover Dam, Nevada
Ephesus, Turkey
Angkor Wat, Cambodia (surprised this hasn't been mentioned already)
Cu Chi tunnels, Vietnam

I’ve been to Ephesus and went back the next day to see Ray Charles perform in the theatre.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 06/04/2023 16:33

As well as the Thames Barrier, l've been

Inside Kielder Dam
Inside the Humber Bridge
Inside the Hull Tidal Surge Barrier
Inside the Zuider Zee barrier, the Netherlands

My personal travelling experiences are less exciting that some of those on this thread, and I have no doubt that I won't be unique, but...

The Namib Skelton coast
The Caprivi strip
Victoria Falls hospital A&E!
Brownsville, Texas, where I've had one foot in the US, one foot in Mexico

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 06/04/2023 16:34

Hel, Poland. Irritated my fellow passengers by often saying "We're on the road to hell. Which, to be fair, we were.

On the flip side, I used to live in Hope

Bideshi · 06/04/2023 16:38

I've been to Pokhara. It's heaving - the start of the Andrex trail to Annapurna.

But I've been over the Shipton La to Makalu Base Camp
Hang Zhou
Cincinnati

Sorry no win with Rwanda. I have been there.

Bimini Island, Bahamas
Muskoka, Canada
Martha's vineyard, USA

I‘ve been to Muskoka many times, mainly shopping when staying in the area. My mentioning it feels like cheating though, as I am an Ontarian.

mackthepony · 06/04/2023 16:42

Bruny Island

mackthepony · 06/04/2023 16:43

Also, Saguenay Lac-Saint-Jean

cheapskatemum · 06/04/2023 16:45

@midsomermurderess - I've been to Wikli Warm Springs in Nigeria too! I saw a hippo bathing there 😬.

My three:
I've been to Lomé, Togo
Watamu, Kenya
And
Treichville, Côte d'Ivoire

ShakeYourFeathers · 06/04/2023 16:45

I was just thinking the same!

cheapskatemum · 06/04/2023 16:47

@katscamel
I've been to Oran in Algeria. Scariest drive I've ever had getting there from Algiers!

Halesowen.....not very exotic but I'm from there and live in London now, no one's ever heard of it.

Driven through it a few times
Does that count?

GeraltsBathtub · 06/04/2023 16:49

snygghygge · 06/04/2023 16:01

Varosha/Famogusta is very interesting!
I've also been to Petra. I'll add Azraq and Aqaba to the Jordan list

I’ve been to Aqaba but not Azraq. Did you go diving/snorkelling? Swimming over a plane in the gulf of Aqaba has got to be one of the most surreal moments of my life!

sybil40 · 06/04/2023 16:50

Kuhe Taftan
Thumrait
Goury

I'm not particularly well travelled, but I have been to both Moshi, Tanzania and Rathambore, India.
Anyone been to Silvepura in India?

Are you following me?

When were you in Moshi?
