Have you been to a place no one else has been to?

I'll start. The idea is you name the place and a fellow MNer has to say if they've been there. However, you don't have to wait until you've been somewhere to post. Post your places and you'll meet the MNers who've been there. You can post 1-3 places (random numbers).

I've been to:

Rwanda
The Whisundays
Cathedral Grove (Vancouver Island)

I've been to the Whitsundays 🤣 and the Galapagos, Takaka, Stewart Isl, and Rotto - no issue with the flies there, either, and the quokkas were very cute.

I'm going for

  • Isla Mujeres
  • Punta Arenas
  • Orkney

I'd love to get to the Falklands and Tristan da Cunha! Lucky people.

I've been to Isla Mujeres

I see Djibouti has been mentioned, can I replace with Senegal? 😄

I’ve also been through the Suez Canal on a marine research vessel, from Alexandria to Jeddah. My first job out of uni in 1997.

We saw the RY Britannia going the other way, returning from HK. The captain called us onto the bridge and we all waved.

You can only have Senegal if there was a French Foreign Legion presence there when you visited - if you managed to acquire a FFL cap then you win everything!

My dad (paediatric radiologist) once talked to the parent of a patient who came from Tiree. Said parent was amazed that Dad not only knew Tiree but said that he'd gone there regularly on holiday with his family.

Parent then mentioned that there had been this strange doctor who used to come to Tiree with bikes and Siamese cats..... BlushGrin

I need to know about the cats, please.

handsoffate · 06/04/2023 15:04

@Arapawa I have visited Kuranda, but sadly INXS weren’t playing. I have seen them with Michael in the UK though, awesconcert.

handsoffate · 06/04/2023 15:04

*awesome concert!

MrsTerryPratchett · 06/04/2023 15:06

I think on MN, you've probably got more chance of winning this thread if you said you'd been to Benidorm, Scunthorpe and Pontins Prestatyn.

@BarbaraofSeville I have indeed been to a caravan park in Prestatyn! Don't know about Pontins!

I don't think I've seen any of the places I visited in Alaska yet.

So I'll go for my 3 as:
Juneau, Alaska
The ruined town of Treadwell, Alaska
Mendenhall Glacier, Alaska

There are a few other places there and I bet someone has been to Juneau but that's where I spent most of my time. My plane stopped in Ketchikan on the way there and Sitka on the way back but I didn't get out the plane so I don't know if that counts. Sitka's runway is quite something though. You drop down between the mountains and just get closer and closer to the sea and the first thing you really know about there being a runway there is when the plane touches it.

I’ve been to Ketchikan and the Mendenahll. And at two other towns in Alaska, (on a cruise). It was beautiful!

My husband lived in Canada as a teenager, and I had always wanted to go and explore. So for our honeymoon, we flew to Vancouver then drove East to Manitoba, which is where he lived, stopping at lots of different places on the way. Best holiday I've ever had. I love Canada and would like to move there someday.

Wow! That's quite a road trip! When I was a kid we'd drive to Saskatchewan to visit grandparents every other summer. Between us I guess we could've named odd little towns no one has heard of. 🙃

Maggiesgirl · 06/04/2023 15:12

Singapore
Penang Malysia

handsoffate · 06/04/2023 15:14

My three places:

Isle de Brehât France

Xishuangbanna

Very close but I didn't get there. I do remember planning to go and saying, "Shishy banana" over and over to practise. I murdered the pronunciation! I did get to Shangri-La.

DD wants me to add Jökulsárlón for her.

Arapawa · 06/04/2023 15:28

@Mumtobabyhavoc We did a road/camping trip many years ago and drove up (from LA) all the way to Saskatchewan. Went there to visit my DH's family who left Europe many years ago and farmed in Big Beaver.

Tarkan · 06/04/2023 15:29

Ok so from my first post I still have Treadwell and Sitka both in Alaska.

I'd like to add another one I've just remembered though.

The Moon.

The Moon is a really small street in Kirriemuir in Angus. Grin I lost my photo of me with the street sign a long time ago, I should go back for another as it's not that far from us. Grin

Usernamechange1980 · 06/04/2023 15:30

I just noticed quite a few people have been to Brunei. Windsor, Ontario in Canada is another place and also Detroit.

Technically under my (frankly terrible) rules, if you've seen the moon from a boat it counts.

I have. I claim the moon.

I've been to Windsor. Frankly, I hated it. Nasty-feeling place for Canada.

Detroit looks gorgeous but I never went.

Yes, and I think if you've been to Brunei you've als probably been to Labuan and Kota Kinabalu as well, also probably Singapore and parts of Malaysia.
