Have you been to a place no one else has been to?

I'll start. The idea is you name the place and a fellow MNer has to say if they've been there. However, you don't have to wait until you've been somewhere to post. Post your places and you'll meet the MNers who've been there. You can post 1-3 places (random numbers).

I've been to:

Rwanda
The Whisundays
Cathedral Grove (Vancouver Island)

Maireas · 06/04/2023 13:44

I went to Czechoslovakia in 1988, @SmokyForTheWin - did you stay with a local family?
I travelled to various places behind the Iron Curtain. Not least the Soviet Union.

Another Whitsundays visitor here 👋

@Delpi65 I've started climbing Ayers Rock, as it was, when you were allowed to, but I was quite young and got scared so bottled out.

@Natsku I've been past Eel Pie Island many times and apparently seeing places from a boat counts (agree, it's a fab name)

I will offer up:
La Cumbre, Argentina
Villa Maria del Triunfo, Peru
Beppu, Japan

@Anonymouslyposting the Eagle hunters were amazing! We went to a festival there so got to watch the eagle trials, camel races and horseback tug-of-war with a dead goat etc.

I’ve been to Katoomba in NSW Australia - several times as we loved visiting and walking in the Blue Mountains when we lived in Sydney for a couple of years.

dew141 · 06/04/2023 14:19

I've been to Lizard Island. Clearly us MNers love the Whitsundays.

AllIwantforChristmas22 · 06/04/2023 14:19

In addition to
montevideo, Uruguay
and Syria (Aleppo, Damascus, Hama, Homs)

i am going to throw in Chisinau, Moldova

MrsHamlet · 06/04/2023 14:20

Chisinău is on my to do list. Very jealous.

Cornishclio · 06/04/2023 14:20

I noticed someone else has been to Kamloops. We did that on the Rocky Mountaineer train last year.

Philip Island Near Melbourne anyone?

Arapawa · 06/04/2023 14:20

I've been to Katoomba. Saw INXS (with Michael Hutchence) play at the open air concert area many years ago.

Fujairah, in UAE
Through Suez Canal on a cargo ship
Kansas, USA, where I was frequently asked why I was there!

I went through the Panama Canal on a cruise ship, but your canal trip sounds so much more exotic!

Lilyofthevalley23 · 06/04/2023 14:22

My father used to work in Halesowen so I have been there!
Sailed to the Minquies and many other islands around the Channel Islands
Scottish islands – Lewis, Harris, Benbecula, Uist, Coll and Tiree (not sure if they have all been mentioned)
Both Blair Atholl and Mellon Udrigle (stunning place) on Scottish mainland.
Most of Canadian BC places listed here including Cathedral Grove, Squamish etc.
Liechtenstein several times.
Finnish Lapland (Levi)
Groningen in the Netherlands

So my three, not so far away are:

Burhou
Barra
Shetland Islands

TwoBlueFish · 06/04/2023 14:23

@KnickerlessParsons ive been to Alice Springs and Uluru

@SmokyForTheWin I've been to Czechoslovakia

TwoBlueFish · 06/04/2023 14:24

@yodaforpresident I've been to Ephesus

BaublesAndGlitter · 06/04/2023 14:25

@Lilyofthevalley23 I've been to Bara. Lovey place.

@MrsHamlet That's so funny, when I mention the places I've been or want to go, people look at me like I'm weird!

I think we may have similar holiday tastes as I've also been to Tok (and got swiftly told off for pronouncing it incorrectly)

I may have to add Porcupine to my list...

We tend to drive from one big place to another and look for funny or interesting sounding places along the route - that's how we ended up in North Pole.

@Tarkan We did have a drink in the Alaskan and chatted to an Alaskan (but he wasn't from Juneau) but no Alaskan ale I'm afraid. Feel very sad about that now!

Haven't seen any takers for Dawson on the thread yet....
