So primary teachers
Secondary school teachers

What would they roughly get paid?

(Trivially, it is really interesting that you gave turned my point that people sometimes respond to those they know to be teachers in a somewhat regressive and teenagerish way into ‘teachers are patronising’ - ie you have converted what I actually said, which was about response, into an attack on teachers. If you are going to claim that I agree with you, please quote me accurately.)

Botw1 · 31/03/2023 15:39

@cantkeepawayforever

Yes, its throughout the thread
Teachers work hardest and longest. Only teachers are spoken about negatively etc

But im sure if you've not seen it you'll just deny it now

Your point was patronising

People aren't responding to all knowing teachers like teenagers

They're just disagreeing with them

MrsHerculePoirot · 31/03/2023 16:40

@Botw1 I have never seen a teacher say we work longer than any other public decor, or that teachers should get paid more than other public sectors.

I have seen teachers on a THREAD THAT WAS EXPLICITY STARTED ABOUT TEACHER PAY justify the misconceptions posted around this. I’ve seen teachers explicitly say they agree nurses and other public sectors fighting for fair pay should also get paid more. All the teachers I know would agree and support this.

I’ve seen an awful of poor comprehension, or wilful misunderstanding or extrapolation from
a handful of posters, namely you.

@MrsHerculePoirot

I didnt specify public sector.

Teachers have, on this thread, said they worker harder and longer than other roles.

Easterfunbun · 31/03/2023 16:47

@Botw1

I teach health and social care. I was a nurse. Therefore, I do have direct experience of both professions. I also have two sisters who nurse and a mother who was a consultant mental health nurse. I am still friends with nurses who I originally trained with. So yeah, I know a lot about the profession.

They both have unique challenges and I wouldn’t dare ask a nurse to justify their salary against mine. Many of my friends who I trained with are at the top of band 6 and they most certainly earn more than me.

@MistressIggi

Teachers are very teacher focused.

They often refuse to listen when ots pointed out that they are not unique. That they are not alone in being over worked and 'underpaid'

It's like banging your head against a brick wall trying to get them to see the bigger picture.

It's quite an odd trait

You know what's like banging your head against a brick wall?

Constantly telling posters than when teachers say 'I work long hours' it doesn't say 'ONLY I work long hours'.

How does raising awareness of your own situation imply you think you're unique?

Seriously.

Botw1 · 31/03/2023 17:34

@Sherrystrull

This just goes in circles.

There have been graphs posted to show how its teachers who work the hardest /longest and are the worst off (progressively)

Teachers have said teaching is harder than other roles they've done. They work longer hours than they did in other roles etc etc

If you're repeatedly having to correct an impression, maybe you should start to wonder how you're creating that impression?

Easterfunbun · 31/03/2023 17:44

@Botw1

So if a teacher has experience of other roles and sectors and they then say they find teaching the most challenging job they’ve had, what is it you expect them to do? Lie? to appease people like you? I don’t recall teachers claiming the monopoly on that. We don’t go round saying that 🤷‍♀️.

The only thing I ever do is warn people of the realities of teaching due to… you guessed it, misconceptions around the profession.

So tell me.

How is saying teaching is harder than other jobs I've done the same as saying it's the hardest ever job?

It's not is it?

Why don't you start to actually read posts?

Botw1 · 31/03/2023 18:30

@Sherrystrull

Why don't you start reading posts?

There are plenty examples of teachers expressly saying teachers work harder/longer than other roles

If it was just a case of me not reading posts properly then it wouldn't be something you feel you have to constantly defend, would it?

I'll say it again.

Teachers saying they work longer than other roles does not mean they are saying they work harder than everyone. I work harder teaching than I did as a cleaner. I work harder teaching than I did working behind a bar.

That's my experience. Have you been a teacher?

Botw1 · 31/03/2023 18:39

@Sherrystrull

So teachers don't work longer hours or harder than other similar professions?

Good to know.

Which roles do you think are harder or work more hours than teachers?

Botw1 · 31/03/2023 18:40

Sorry, teaching is part of my role but I've not been a classroom teacher to children, no.

Easterfunbun · 31/03/2023 18:43

@Botw1

We are giving our opinions on our past roles. For example, I’ve been a hairdresser, a receptionist, a waitress, a nurse and now a teacher. I mean I’ve been around the block a bit. For me personally Teaching is by far the hardest. But, also the best 😃.

What?

I have no clue. How can I comment on how hard a job is that I've never done? I can only comment on my experiences.

Botw1 · 31/03/2023 18:50

@Sherrystrull

So you dont think that teaching is harder than other jobs but you also don't have experience of other jobs to say which might be harder than teaching?

OK.

CantFindTheBeat · 31/03/2023 18:58

I have no clue about salaries, but I do know it's got to be an incredible stressful job with high demands and very, very limited resources.

Sherrystrull · 31/03/2023 18:59

Botw1 · 31/03/2023 18:50

@Sherrystrull

So you dont think that teaching is harder than other jobs but you also don't have experience of other jobs to say which might be harder than teaching?

OK.

What are you on about?

Teaching is harder than any other job I've done.

I don't know if it's harder than being a doctor or a solicitor or a PA or a carer as I've never done those jobs.

I choose to only comment on jobs I've done...

MrsHerculePoirot · 31/03/2023 19:01

@Sherrystrull not worth it. Wilful misinterpreting of posts.

No-one has said teachers work harder and longer than every other job in the world….

Wr haven’t made up to use graphs they’ve come from independent research groups.

Very bizarre responses to anything anyone says if you ask me.

Easterfunbun · 31/03/2023 19:03

@MrsHerculePoirot

Yep. Totally bizarre.

Botw1 · 31/03/2023 19:04

@Sherrystrull

I'm on about teachers saying teaching is the hardest job.

You're saying that no teacher thinks this.

They just think its the hardest job they personally have ever done.

So teaching isn't the hardest job. But no one knows what is.

And anyone who says that teachers give the impression they do think teaching is harder than any other job (even if it's just the jobs they've done) is wrong.

motherofawhirlwind · 31/03/2023 19:06

For any salary data you find, you need to divide by 39 and multiply by 52 to get the full time equivalent as they're all on term time only contracts Smile

Sherrystrull · 31/03/2023 19:08

No one knows what the hardest job is as no one has done all jobs!

Botw1 · 31/03/2023 19:11

@Sherrystrull

Sure

At least we can all agree teaching isn't the hardest!
