Silkierabbit...glad to hear that things are looking like they are heading in the right direction.
Who will look after Floof while you are away ?

mathanxiety · 25/05/2023 15:30

I've had a few busy days, with horrible hay fever on top.

DS had two graduation ceremonies, the first a hooding on Tuesday and the second the graduation, on Wednesday. We had late meals out both days. He's now Dr DS, which is amazing considering the remarks his teachers wrote on his school reports over the years - "needs to try harder", "grade would be higher if he had done homework", etc.

Today is a good deal chillier than you'd expect for this point in the year. We've had a few cooler than normal days and nights, but the hummingbirds seem to have survived.

Silkies hope your holiday comes about. I'm in awe of your swimming.
So pleased for you that you have an official report that reflects reality. How maddening that the other accounts of what happened were so far off the mark.

MissC is that a toad or a frog on your deck?
Funny to think of all the life under the ice of the reservoir all winter.

My mum has a fox who sleeps at the farthest end of her big garden, way behind the apple trees, in a spot that gets sun until mid afternoon. He's been there for about three years now. She was thrilled to find she had a lodger in the garden because foxes are her favourite animals. They are on nodding terms. He sits and watches her hanging laundry on the clothes line, and she pretends not to see him if she goes elsewhere in the garden.

sproutsandparsnips · 25/05/2023 22:48

I thought that was a stone toad Miss! Yes I burnt the top of my feet. They are itchy now!
Yes Havoc there are a lot of exams at 16 but at DS' school they spread them out a bit so he already has part of physics, chemistry and biology done last year as well as English language. They did maths in November so just Numeracy now, and an English lit paper in January. He has Welsh, numeracy, geography and history left now.
We used to go to Beefeaters Bizzey! There were Mr Men there.

Silkierabbit · 26/05/2023 00:32

I remember that too Bizzey Used to love the floater coffees.

Well done to your DS Math

Hope your cruise went well Deathraystare

Floof was hyper again today, needed attention all day, maybe as DD is on holiday, it's cute but very full on. He wants to play all day though sometimes he just wants to watch someone wiggle the game and he just slumps.

Had a Chinese meal for dinner. Phoned for pip 1 hour 1 minute to get through for ds and then they didn't know anything about what was happening with the claim, started in Jan. Said to phone another number, they knew bit more.

Also phoned doctor and hospital about numbness and pins and needles I keep getting but neither seemed concerned. Probably stress thing.

Floof is trilling and looking for a playmate, it's 0.30am. Dh will go no Floof then start playing. 😂He puts the stick in his mouth and takes it to you. I am just getting a poke, being recruited for a game.

Hello all - just had a big catch-up read. I’ve been busy recently. End of school and uni, one kid moving back home, one deciding not to move back home, family arriving from the UK soon, work ramping up at just the wrong time, a lot of medical tests for various reasons (I’m perfectly healthy but I’m in a couple of medical studies).

I’m really looking forward to the long weekend.

MissC - has your DD liked the food at college? I’m amazed what a range of great options they have whenever I visit.

Silkie I’m so glad to read all your updates.

Math I will be in Chicago in a couple of weeks and have been planning and booking stuff like the boat tour, some nice restaurants, etc. It will be fun to visit as a tourist. I’m bringing family who have never been so I’m excited to show them around.

Zippedydoo123 · 26/05/2023 14:52

18 year old ds is visiting his London family tomorrow on his dad's side. He hasn't been since August last year as his dad had two medical operations and was hospitalised twice. I am looking forward to the pe ace and quiet as ds is temporarily unemployed and I am sick to death of all the arguing with me at home. I work at home the house is small and I am finding his never-ending interruptions way too much to cope with. Run ragged with it to be fair. He will be away for a week and I am just longing to get my house back so I can get on and work uninterrupted and get on with chores too.

MissConductUS · 26/05/2023 15:36

Math, congratulations on your DS's graduation! What a day to remember. My hay fever has been bad too, but I think the worst of the tree pollen is over. The picture I posted is a local species of tree frog.

3 Types of Tree Frogs Found in New York! (ID Guide)

Silkie, how often are you getting the numbness and pins and needles feelings? It is usually nothing, but it can indicate a real illness as well.

ZZ, lovely to see you on the thread. DD, who is returning home later today, does like the food at college. She was quite the picky eater when she started, but she seems to have put that mostly behind her. Are the UK family staying with you during their visit?

Zippidy, I'm glad you're going to get some peace and quiet. Is it hard to find a job where you are currently?

Yesterday was a good day for wildlife at the reservoir. The gray crane is still here, and I saw the largest turtle yet.

Dull and unexciting news: still sick. Almost 3 weeks now. Coughing, congested and no energy. Had to plunger a blocked toilet yesterday and it left me out of breath and utterly exhausted. Havoc is much better, more energy, but has a horrible cough.

Have just had a comforting bowl of steel-cut oats with brown sugar, cinnamon. warm milk, sliced pear, strawberries and some crumbled pecans. Luckily my appetite is ok or I'd be inconsolable as I do love food! 😋

Finished binging Manifest. Am going to re-watch whole series before watching the end of series episodes dropping June 2. Will take my time to absorb all the details.

Have been wondering about a few not seen here for a while. Hoping Prok is ok. Does anyone remember the person who had the horses (or was that a different thread?)?

HelenaJustina · 27/05/2023 18:14

Have been in hospital with DC3 for 21hrs. Acute appendicitis and waiting for surgery. I’ve had 1.5hrs sleep since 6am Friday morning and am starting to feel like I’m moving through treacle.

Oh, no! I wish there was something I could do to help. Keep us posted and stay strong. 💐💖

HelenaJustina · 27/05/2023 18:59

Thank you havoc it will be okay. My brother is a paediatrician and has been providing remote consults (he did a video call, looked at her and sent us in to hospital in the first place!) Her godfather is a GP and has also been in touch. DH is managing the other 3DC. I’m very lucky in my support networks!

bizzey · 27/05/2023 19:13

Gosh Helena how stressful .
Hope it all goes well 🙏.

Silkierabbit · 27/05/2023 19:16

So sorry to hear that Helena Hope they can operate soon and recovery goes well. Hope there is someone that can swap with you as well so you can get some rest.

Sorry you are still ill Havoc I think there was someone with horses a while back maybe Champagne not heard from them in a while.

I also hope Prok is OK and just struggling to type. I did message her a few weeks back to check and she was OK then but struggling to type. We are all thinking of you and wishing you well Prok if it helps just type one letter in like a, a can mean you are OK but struggling to type.

Lovely pictures MissC I suspect my pins and needles / numbness may just be stress though weird it came on suddenly. Since Jan I've had like sinus pain on right side of face, seems to be allergy related, goes in steam room but otherwise there, beconase eases a little. Separately around 3 weeks ago I suddenly started getting lots of pins and needles and slight numbness tingling mainly down right side arm and leg and feet and hands though it can go in left hand and foot too. Fairly constant but does improve swimming. Walking is fine, eyesight still stuffed from chemo a bit but no change. Wake with it, occasionally it goes. Very slight pain in back of legs but no sign of heat. I had a clear ct abdominal incl bones a few weeks back. I had similar in chemo and went. Think it's OK.

Enjoy Chicago ZZ

Welcome Zippy hope you enjoy the break.

Just done hoovering and bank accounts today. Collected more tuna for Floof, 3 things for rabbit and a skirt, earrings and top from Boden sale for me. Had a Portuguese tart then smoked salmon and scrambled eggs and a roast for dinner. Floof still very attention seeking as dd not back from Spain until tonight, 6am he needed cuddles, then games, then food, then games, was non stop for around 3 hours. But he trills away and is so cute we always do it but will be happy when dd is back to share.

MissConductUS · 27/05/2023 19:19

Helena, I'm so sorry to hear that! Is DC3 comfortable waiting for surgery, and when is it scheduled for? Have they started antibiotics?

DD arrived home from rowing camp last night around 7:00, just in time for pizza. Her car was completely full, so it's good I had already picked up a lot of her stuff from uni. She starts work on Tuesday, as Monday is Memorial Day here.

DH and DS went off to see a baseball game today.

Trying to get back into my cooking.

Gammon is cooking now ready for ham and leek pie tomorrow (if I manage to hide it from middle ds who is working and will come home and eat the whole lot !!)

Then ham salad or ham and chips on Monday

Ds1 has gone back to his place .
I have completely not realized the days/dates and remembered after he left that it is his birthday next week (and I won't be seeing him) ...and I forgot to give him his birthday present ....which I bought for him in January (good sale deal 🤣🤣)

Can't believe we are into June next week!

Lemonsandlemonade · 27/05/2023 20:17

Oh no Helena hope your DC is better very soon.

Havoc feel better soon.

Sending 💐and thoughts to Prok.

sounds yummy Bizzey

In dull news I was at the local petrol station today ( they sell local eggs there) and some woman bought 36 eggs. When the cashier asked her about it she said they were for her dog who is poorly and will only take his medicine in a free range egg 🤔😳.

in other dull news we had planned to take DS to a local farm park for his birthday but it’s supposed to be 25 degrees and I’m not sure he/we will enjoy it. We may well go to the beach instead.

bizzey · 27/05/2023 20:55

DS3 has tried some of the gammon and said it was the nicest I had ever done it !
I made my own paste to cover it in.

Then came up with a complaint ...

I hadn't taken all the plastic packaging off it and he had been chewing on it 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤣🤣!

halfpasteleven · 27/05/2023 22:13

Sending best wishes to your dc @HelenaJustina. And hope you get some rest too soon.
Have been following the posts but not had time or anything really to post.
I often think of @Prokupatuscrakedatus too - I wish you well
@Silkie glad things are improving for you and your DS. Love reading about Floof and his antics.. live the word trilling- I've never heard it used to describe a car until you used it.
It was a lovely hot sunny day here- got to the hairdresser, garden centre, furniture shop, home to make lunch and then dinner then collected dc from soccer practice- the days are going by quickly for sure @bizzey

Cooking experts I need your help !!

I have just realized I did not get eggs in my shopping order.

Lemons oist about eggs made me check !

Only need one for the wash on top of pastry .

I seem to remember I use to use a milk wash but can't remember what for !!

If DS does not go to the shop tomorrow, can I use milk ?

I can put a quick shop order in for the morning...but don't really need anything else though extra wine is always handy !!

Yes, I often use milk or heavy cream.

bizzey · 28/05/2023 01:22

Thank you Mummy.

I am such an idiot though 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️
I checked the gammon and realised I had basted it lovingly ......around and on top of the plastic side wrapper that keeps it in place 🤣🤣🤣🤣.

Ahhh well ...everyday is a school day as they say 🤣🤣!!

Maybe I should not cook on a Saturday evening after a glass of wine !

I am sure it will still get eaten .
I have his it in the fridge for now behind the butter so DS won't see it 🤣🤣

bizzey · 28/05/2023 01:23

Hid it in the fridge .

Mumtobabyhavoc · 28/05/2023 14:07

It's 6am and I have been awake since 4:30 (having fallen asleep around 1:00). Havoc has been having a rough couple of weeks with sleep. It's likely being ill plus a bunch of teeth coming in. I'm dying with interrupted and not near enough sleep right now with being ill. Havoc finally got back to sleep at 5:15 but I am wide awake now and coughing. Ugh. 😪

Helena, I hope things have gone well for your dc and you are managing some much needed test. 💖
