Silkie, lavender smells heavenly. It should grow easily, too. If I could, I'd have a back yard lined with lilac. We had that when I was a child and I've never forgotten it. Years ago I visited my old neighbourhood and visited (trespassed onto) the property as no one was home and was surprised to find some remaining lilac.
Just finished a late lunch. Made pizza with pesto, sun-dried tomatoes, red bell pepper, mushrooms, buffalo mozza and chopped left-over lamb chop cooked in tomato sauce last night.

someoneisalwaysintheloo · 08/05/2023 00:14

Showered, did laundry, upgraded my MacBook os, and ate 2 slices of pizza.

Silkierabbit · 08/05/2023 01:22

I love lilac too Havoc My grandmother had several and they smelt wonderful. She and her sister were amazing gardeners and her sister had the most wonderful garden which I loved as a child. She had no children and I think gardening was most of her life.

HelenaJustina · 08/05/2023 08:07

Went to a huge family party in London yesterday, Coronation themed but we would have been having the party regardless. It was brilliant, the weather was perfect. Quiet tired household this morning… maybe some gardening will be just the ticket.

MissConductUS · 08/05/2023 15:43

Welcome, @someoneisalwaysintheloo, and thanks for sharing your mundane news. How did the OS upgrade go? A friend of mine has a Macbook and had wifi connectivity problems after doing an upgrade, but that was several years ago. Was your pizza homemade or from a pizza place?

Tonight is pizza night at our house. We learned how to make it during covid and have never returned to takeaway pizza.

All this pizza talk. I haven’t made proper pizza in ages.

We had a lovely weekend here but today DS has come out in anther rash and isn’t himself again. 😟 it’s sore. Im not sure what to do.

Lemonsandlemonade · 08/05/2023 20:32

Helena your family party sounds lovely.

Silkierabbit · 08/05/2023 21:10

Sorry to hear your ds is unwell again Lemons

DD was doing her punting job on the river.

I did some hoovering and I left the hoover quickly with its hose in a giant circle. Floof is very happy inside the circle. 😂

Just had tea and scones with jam and cream after a smoked salmon salad.

DH collected a new phone for DD.

IVFlife · 08/05/2023 23:02

I tried the forrero rocher ice cream stick things today and it was gooood. 3 more in freezer.

PS thank you to everyone for lovely messages re ivf failure.

IVFlife · 08/05/2023 23:03

Silkierabbit · 07/05/2023 20:18

Thanks Havoc I love lavender and grew it fine at our old house so hoping will be OK here as well. I got 12 of them and just put 4 in today. The French lavender pink ones are already in flower and smell really nice.

Floof is lovely and DH who said he would never love another cat after Silkiecat died at 17.5 is totally smitten. He said I could get a small female cat but Floof is huge and male but the gentlest happiest cat.

Just having scones, strawberry jam and clotted cream, think half the country is this weekend.

jam or cream 1st?!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 08/05/2023 23:10

Silkie, lunch sounds very white glove and delish. 😊
Lemons, sorry about your DS. It's awful when we can't solve everything. Is he old enough for an antihistamine? Do you think it's from food or contact?
Miss, what kind of pizza did you make? Since I finally mastered dough I have a mew found enthusiasm for pizza. I just finished stuffing my face with three slices left over from yesterday then a large handful choco chips. Now making a latte. 😋
Bizzey, how is the kitchen sorting going?

Took Havoc swimming to a different pool today. It was indoor and saltwater instead of the usual chlorine. Nice change! Havoc was making me smile jumping in and trying to swim toward me. I count to five before intervening and guiding upward. Lesson tomorrow. Havoc is having a good nap and I've got the togs and towels in the wash and watching tv news.
My latte is too hot. Boo.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 08/05/2023 23:13

IVFlife · 08/05/2023 23:03

jam or cream 1st?!

careful not to start anything... this is supposed to be a low-key thread. 😉🤣

(sits back and waits for the Brits to reply). 🤭

bizzey · 08/05/2023 23:26

Mumtobanyhavoc..

Thank you for asking .... kitchen is still a work in progress !

Ohhhh I love a jam or cream debate !!!😂.

I have my own preference, but I still don't know which side of the border it puts me !😂

Mumtobabyhavoc · 08/05/2023 23:31

@bizzey I deep cleaned a section on my kitchen counter yesterday. It felt great to organize and toss a few things then scrub and bleach the countertop. 😁
You asked about essential pantry herbs, I think. Mine are garlic powder (not garlic salt, to be clear) and Italian herbs blend.

I don't put anything on scones, so am always amused and interested in the debate! 😁
Here, butter or plain is the norm.

bizzey · 08/05/2023 23:37

Ahhh ....at least you put butter on them !

I think butter is another equation in the debate !

Mumtobabyhavoc · 08/05/2023 23:49

@bizzey When I was growing up I'd make "baking powder biscuits" for my dad which were plain unsweetened scones, really. He'd eat them hot with lots of butter. (Lovely memory. I'd be so proud serving them up!)
I make lemon scones or choc with choco chips occasionally.

Havoc has been asleep for almost two hours now! 👏

bizzey · 09/05/2023 00:14

Mumtobanyhavoc...
I was similar .
I loved baking when I was younger.

We use to live in a 2nd floor maisonette with no outdoor space .

On Sundays , after we had gone to church , and mum had cooked ,served and washed up a roast (!)

Her and dad always needed to go for a walk with my little brother.

It was always the most boring walk ever....

That never went anywhere...it was just 40 mins along the road ....ohhh better head home now....and 40 mins back ....along the same road ..😂😂.

By age 13-15 ...I said I would stay at home and prep tea.
Sunday tea was always a " high " tea.

I cooked cakes, scones and prepped the table.

We did have scones and butter .
And on a good month put jam on them .

I was quite old when I knew you could put cream on them as well 😂😂!

I still remember making Rock cakes ...and my dad taking a bite ...and saying ...
Yep bizzey ....these are definitely Rock cakes !! ( Nearly broke his tooth !!

Not sure of your time difference...
Is it good that baby havoc is still asleep ?

Need to start my baking up again .!
I used to be quite good ...

Fond memories 😁😁

Mumtobabyhavoc · 09/05/2023 01:36

@bizzey thank you for sharing that memory! 💖 I'm on pacific time, Vancouver. Havoc slept 3h18m! I've got my "coq no vin" in the oven and Havoc is having a snack of hard boiled egg, grapes and banana with milk. Well, is now on the deck sweeping...🤷‍♀️

bizzey · 09/05/2023 18:21

Well Mumofbabyhavoc ..our chat last night must have spurred me on !

I have cooked a chicken tikka massala ...but with thigh not breast ,mainly just to try it .

And a fruit crumble is in the oven ...

Happy days !

bizzey · 09/05/2023 18:44

And ...pooofff !
Happy days have gone ...and back to worrying instead !!

Just had a phone call from ds's pediatrics department.

He has been having some issues with his heart due to some medication he is on .

GP got in touch with consultant.

Had phone call.

He has to go to an outpatient clinic for egc ( no appointment...just turn up and wait I think )

Not urgent .they said ......but I have to take him this week !

I tell ya what ...I got my monies worth out of being a parent for this child !!

Ohhh and to top it off ....other DC moved the knob on the cooker to 210 for my crumble !

He leant against it !

This thread was meant to be boring and mundane right ?!😂

MissConductUS · 09/05/2023 20:34

Mum, our standard pizza is topped with bacon (American style streaky bacon) and pepperoni. Sometimes we do Italian sweet sausage bits as well. DH used to make coq au vin but hasn't in years. What do you substitute for the wine?

So much baking news on this thread recently! I haven't baked anything in months.

DD is finishing her exams this week and then is off to New Hampshire for a week for a rowing camp, then returning home after that for the summer. I'll have to do a Trader Joe's shop for her favorite snacks.

My turtle friend was back on his or her rock today, this time with more sun.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 09/05/2023 22:44

Bizzey, I hope your dessert wasn't ruined! Dinner sounds very good!
Miss, homemade pizza is the best, isn't it? I haven't used bacon in ages. I may have to pick some up. 🤔
For my coq au vin or no vin I just use about 3c water in the dutch over/roaster; sautéed mushrooms, potatoes, carrots, onion if I have it. Liberal sprinkling salt and whatever herbs on hand. Lately Italian & garlic powder. Prefer herbes de province. Bay leaf if I remember. I season about 1/3 c flour , pat dry 6 chicken thighs, coat in flour and dry fry skin side first about 5 mins a side. Pop on top of veg and cook on 400f about 75 mins. If i have wine I only use about a half cup white or red. I find it's enough to deepen the stock for every day coq. I do occasionally do a traditional red coq but still only use about 2c max + water.

MissConductUS · 09/05/2023 23:11

Bizzey, I hope your DS is okay. An ECG is a pretty easy test. How old is he?

Mum, your recipe sounds fab. The only downside to the bacon is that cooking it is an extra step, but DH cooks a batch most weekends, and we keep it in a ziplock bag in the fridge for pizza or grilled cheese sandwiches.

Silkierabbit · 09/05/2023 23:36

IVF Jam first and more cream than jam.

Bizzey Hope your DS and you are OK.

Havoc Glad you had a good time swimming

That sounds great for your DD MissC

Today I had an education meeting for DS and got an update. Though they are just in talks atm. Went swimming and swam 100 lengths of the 15 metre pool and went to jacuzzi and sauna, very nice. Whilst we were out DS took himself to the bath, had a bath and changed clothes parents of autistic kids will understand the shock at this

Mumtobabyhavoc · 09/05/2023 23:46

Miss, I forgot about bacon in the coq recipe! I skipped using it because I forgot about it once and found I didn't miss it. I like your idea of bacon in a grilled cheese!!!! 😛
