Was out all day today. Had 2 appts nowhere near each other, so lots of driving in heavy traffic. Did get out for lunch with Havoc in tow and was impressed and shamelessly proud when the little munchkin ate a bit of arugula and pickled onion ( a very small amount, but it's the flavour that's also new) along with some salmon from my plate. Then spent a couple hours at a local fave location along with tonnes of tourists 🤦‍♀️, but that goes with the territory living here. Had a bit of a chuckle at all the selfies being taken at a very industrial site and made me think how the mundane can be interesting to others and how we get blind to things in our own backyards.
Had a simple dinner of roasted red bell pepper and zucchini; boiled new potatoes with garlic, herbs and evoo; hard boiled eggs; cold left-over baked ham; and sour cream and cottage cheese. Now eating a doughnut brought home from today's outing. I might have a 2nd once Havoc is asleep. 😋😋 Thundershowers are still in the forecast for tonight. Anyone watching the coronation this weekend? Will watch it and the Kentucky Derby as well. Big tv weekend.

MissConductUS · 05/05/2023 12:48

Welcome, @IVFlife, and thanks for sharing your news. I'm so sorry to hear that your IVF has failed. I needed fertility support too, so I know what an emotional roller coaster it is. Please feel free to share or lurk as it pleases you.

bizzey, I'd say my most essential spices are garlic and oregano for cooking and cinnamon for baking.

Mumtobabyhavoc, we have some leftover baked ham in the fridge. Friday night the men make pizza, so perhaps we'll have pizza with ham.

My meetings are finally over. I've managed to find out that they expect to announce who my current boss will be replaced by in the next week or two. I'm hoping it will be a woman, but not holding my breath for that.

The tree service people came Wednesday and took down the two trees that were dead and threatening the house. I now expect to have more light on that side of the deck, so I may be able to expand the deck garden this summer or spread it out a bit more.

Thanks Havoc We also have thunderstorms here. Infact I ordered some plants from RHS to arrive on Saturday then looked up the weather forecast, it's raining everyday for next 2 weeks. Just hoping for some breaks in the rain.

Hope you get a nice new boss MissC

Sorry your IVF failed IVF My eldest is IVF with ICSI and I didn't alter my diet at all other than one nurse said drink lots of milk so I did but never seen that advice before or since. I also wore lucky pink fluffy socks which I am sure made all the difference.

I have been sorting bank accounts to higher interest ones, inflation is crazy at the moment. I need to do calculations for tax return too though can do until end January so no rush.

Floof came to ask DH for breakfast at 3am but DH refused, at 6am he came into see me but quickly just jumped on wardrobe and put head upside down and looked resigned to waiting for breakfast. Then 8am came to poke me and got his breakfast. Was super happy. DD has gone out. Was hoping to go swimming again but can't leave ds atm really and think dd will be back too late.

Had jackets for lunch.

mathanxiety · 05/05/2023 16:20

Hope your new boss will be easy to work with, MissC.

Havoc I'm always impressed by Baby Havoc's adventurous palate. My DCs liked pablum, though one liked mashed potatoes too, and one used to eat medium hot salsa from a bowl with a spoon when she was about 2.

IVFlife - sending commiserations. I hope you have friends and family around you who are supportive.

We have DD3's graduation tomorrow at an ungodly hour, so will miss the coronation and probably the Kentucky Derby too, as we're heading out to lunch afterward. It's hard to know what to wear as the mornings are still chilly here, but temps rise considerably as the day wears on. DD3 will be shivering in her graduation frock.

I filled the hummingbird feeder this morning and hung it in the tree off the deck. Night time temperatures are forecast to rise over the weekend and into the coming week, so it may be warm enough for them to at least send a scouting party.

I have about 22 little jars of herbs and spices, plus S&P, taking up valuable space on my kitchen counter. The ones I use most are probably black pepper, cumin, pepper flakes, and basil.

sueelleker · 05/05/2023 18:06

math I got one of these from Amazon for my herbs and spices. It's very neat. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07HR5Y8WL/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

HildaTablet · 05/05/2023 18:38

I do a reasonable amount of baking so I always have cinnamon in, but since visiting Sweden and eating far too many kanelbullar, I also like using a bit of cardamom in sweet recipes, it gives an unusual, delicious flavour. For savoury things I love sage, thyme, and I grow summer savory, which is a really nice herb in things like tomato sauces.

Tried out a new recipe today for whole lemon bars, for which you whizz up an entire lemon in the processor, mix it with eggs, sugar and melted butter, and bake it on top of a shortbread-type crust. They came out really well and they’re really lemony. Now DH and I are trying to prevent ourselves from snaffling the whole lot in double-quick time 😂

Silkierabbit · 05/05/2023 19:05

Enjoy DD3s graduation Math and congrats to her.

Just going to have kebabs from the kebab shop tonight, they are very nice with lots of fresh salad. And having a sweet cider. Light thunder continues.

MissConductUS · 05/05/2023 19:12

Math, well done to you and your DD for her graduation. Take sunscreen and water, and be prepared for horrendous crowds. I can't believe that it's been a year since DS's graduation.

I had my second turtle sighting this spring at the reservoir. I tried to get a picture of the first one, but I spooked him, and he jumped into the water before I could get my phone set up.

Happy coronation weekend to all! I won't watch the whole thing, but I'm sure the highlights will be on the news later.

I've got far too many herbs and spices, my favourites are rosemary, thyme, sage, garlic, cinnamon ginger and smoked paprika. I have too many that I've only used once though.
Also have 1/2 a jar of gherkins in the fridge of indeterminate ageBlush

Silkierabbit · 05/05/2023 21:45

I also have a half full jar of gherkins in the fridge which is really rare for me. I normally have to avoid buying pickles as I eat the whole jar at once then have stomach ache. I loved pickles from a great aunt I had growing up who used to make pickled red cabbage and we had it every time we saw her with crackers and cheddar then homemade lemon drizzle cake. She always had dried flowers for me too.

bizzey · 05/05/2023 21:45

I attempted to make Thai Green curry...
It went wrong !

I am not a cook all 😞!

Bagging bits up to freeze as a base !

I shall hang my head in shame!

bizzey · 05/05/2023 21:48

DS 1 got a job interview today 😲
First fàce to face one he has hàd had in ages !

bizzey · 05/05/2023 21:50

He has had lots of phone....maybe a video ...then we got this one ...
Fingers crossed xx

Silkierabbit · 05/05/2023 22:03

Hope your ds1 gets the job Bizzey.

bizzey · 06/05/2023 00:18

Thank you Silkie ..
Actually I worded it incorrectly.,
This is his FIRST face to face interview.

He completely blanked on the first question they asked him !

bizzey · 06/05/2023 00:21

Ahhh well ...he said it was good experience for him !

( Cost me £ 90 kitting him out in interview clothes !!😂😂!!)

bizzey · 06/05/2023 00:25

Sounds alot ...but that was just trousers, shoes , socks and a belt
so not bad really .
M&S and Primark .

HelenaJustina · 06/05/2023 08:09

Am sitting in the car outside DC2’s 8am swim training, trying to summon the enthusiasm to go for a run in the drizzle. May watch the Coronation later, it will be on in the background as we get on with the day. DC3 wants new shoes for a big family party tomorrow, the prospect of shopping for these fills me with dread, she is not easily pleased.

bizzey · 06/05/2023 08:22

HelenaJustina I feel your pain !

Clothes and especially shoe shopping with my DS brings me out in a cold sweat !

I ended up doing " on line " shopping with him yesterday !

He kept sending me photos of items , wanting my opinion .

Luckily , I was able to do it all while sitting comfortably with a cup of tea ...
I was still exhausted at the end 😂😂!

MissConductUS · 07/05/2023 13:36

Bizzey, the clothes won't go to waste, and interviewing takes practice. How long has he been looking for work?

Well done with the coronation yesterday! I didn't watch the whole thing, just the highlights. Such lovely outfits on all the guests too.

It was a lovely spring day yesterday, so I went to the nursery, bought some flowers, then potted them on the deck. I'll do some more at some point. The men mowed the lawn yesterday, and it's coming in nicely with all of the rain we've had in the last two weeks.

I woke up in a bit of a fog this morning that thought that it was Monday and I was going to be late for work, It took me about five minutes to realize that I hadn't had Sunday, so it must not be Monday. I checked my phone to make sure.

We have just been swimming, it was pretty busy as its another Bank Holiday weekend, 3 this month due to coronation adding an extra one and weather is meh here. Did 63 lengths x 15m as needed to get out then and went into jacuzzi and sauna. The steam room and sauna stop my sinus thing so that's good.

Hoping to do some gardening this afternoon, well needing to and trying to motivate myself is more accurate. I bought some plants from rhs, 12 lavenders, 1 iris, 1 hydrangea and need to plant them and clear some weeds first.

I am having a milky coffee. Dd is off out shortly to see her boyfriend. Floof was cute this morning I woke to him sitting up, he's about 16 inches sitting just looking over me and when I woke he trilled. Unusual for him not to poke for his tuna.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 07/05/2023 19:29

Math, I'm always surprised by what gets eaten or tried, too! I think because I'm big on veg and I do enjoy cooking I'm able to introduce things more easily. Also, years ago, I read the French approach is to offer over and over as it takes up to 30x for a child to accept a food. However, right now mushrooms are a firm No and suddenly tomatoes aren't getting eaten. I try and roll with it. 🤷‍♀️

Miss, that fog must be spreading. I completely forgot about the Derby yesterday. I think I was thrown having been up middle of the night. Totally crashed last night and woke up thinking it was Mother's Day today, so made coconut choc chip pancakes with vanilla whipped cream and berries and made myself a petfect latte. 🤦‍♀️

Planning "coq no vin" with polenta for supper.
(not a typo... no wine. 😂)

Silkierabbit · 07/05/2023 19:34

DH and I did a couple of hours gardening together but only managed about 1/4 of the garden though lawn already done. We cleared weeds and cut back overgrown plants and I planted some lavenders. We filled a whole big green bin. Two Robins followed us round.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 07/05/2023 19:53

Silkie, meant to comment on Floof and your gardening! I've be thinking about some planter boxes to do with Havoc. I think I'll do lavender - thank you for the inspo! 😊
Floof trilling must be so heart warming. Just hearing about it makes me smile. 💖

Silkierabbit · 07/05/2023 20:18

Thanks Havoc I love lavender and grew it fine at our old house so hoping will be OK here as well. I got 12 of them and just put 4 in today. The French lavender pink ones are already in flower and smell really nice.

Floof is lovely and DH who said he would never love another cat after Silkiecat died at 17.5 is totally smitten. He said I could get a small female cat but Floof is huge and male but the gentlest happiest cat.

Just having scones, strawberry jam and clotted cream, think half the country is this weekend.
