Who knew that they are putting aspartame into full fat Pepsi now?

All cans of full sugar Pepsi now have less than half the sugar content. The rest has been replaced with aspartame.

The cans look exactly the same, and you won’t know the difference unless you read the ingredients listing.

You could also tell the difference by looking at the traffic light system on the side of cans. Old cans will have 40% RDA sugar. The new cans now have 17% RDA sugar.

Unbelievable that they have made a change like this without doing anything to draw attention to it, or to let consumers know.

How many people with allergies or medical issues relating to aspartame will buy Pepsi without realising??

I didn’t know and I don’t have allergies, but I absolutely cannot stand artificial sweeteners so I’d have tasted it right away! They really shouldn’t change ingredients like that without being clear, surely?

Thingamebobwotsit · 23/03/2023 20:47

I get migraines from Aspartame so that rules that out for me!

NotDavidTennant · 23/03/2023 20:47

Almost all soft drinks have been like this since the sugar tax was introduced in 2018.

It now tastes absolutely rank. I had to go out again to get coca cola. Will never buy pepsi again, fake crap that rots your insides. These chemicals are so much worse than sugar!

MILLYmo0se · 23/03/2023 20:51

Oddly enough Pepsi has always given me the weird after taste and achy head that low sugar drinks do, id always just assumed it contained aspartame

otherwayup · 23/03/2023 20:52

I don't know but I do know that the term 'full fat' coke irrationally winds me up!!!!
There's no fat in any coke!!!
Just sugar or no sugar.

Yes. 7up is another one I think.

Lucozade is horrible now too.

Club orange is still 100% sugar 👍

Adrelaxzz · 23/03/2023 20:52

I know because it now tastes of shite.

Calling it “full fat” started as a joke because of course it doesn’t have fat, it was just an ironic contrast to Diet Coke.

Now that it’s become so widespread it’s sort of lost the humour. But I can’t imagine many people literally think it contains fat.

Elphame · 23/03/2023 20:57

Fentiman's have also just gone over to the dark side by replacing sugar with stevia

It tastes dreadful now.

decemberagain · 23/03/2023 20:59

I threw a bottle away yesterday as I thought it was off, tasted vile. I've just checked and it has the changed ingredients. Won't be buying that any more!

AdoraBell · 23/03/2023 21:00

San Pelligrino have done the same to cut down on sugar, might be a different artificial sweetener.

lljkk · 23/03/2023 21:01

I also loathe hearing "full fat" about sugar full fat-free items.
I dunno, I'm all for small pleasures but it's not like we're talking an essential food stuff. It's never good for you, full sugar or not.

Sep200024 · 23/03/2023 21:01

I would like to know if this has been done to Pepsi in other countries? Or is it just because of the U.K. sugar tax?

Up until now, Pepsi and Coca Cola were two of the very few brands that had not made this change.

Looks like we are now just down to Coca Cola.

Nooooooooooooo!!!!! 😞

There goes my guilty pleasure.

I can’t stand the taste of stevia. Used to love the occasional Fentimans though.

Sep200024 · 23/03/2023 21:05

I’ve got one can of the old stuff left in the fridge.

Might have to hide that before someone else gets their hands on it!

I get migraines from Aspartame. So few shift drinks I can have now

Avarua2 · 23/03/2023 21:13

Interesting strategic position from Coke in relation to the sugar tax. Keep it with sugar; pay the tax; still make excessive profits.

Avarua2 · 23/03/2023 21:13

Wonder if they'd do the same in response to a plastic tax? Mass-polluting pricks.

PatsyJStone · 23/03/2023 21:14

Ah. Well that explains why when I recently had Pepsi in a pub I questioned if it was 'normal' or diet and was assured it was 'normal'.

Annoys me how so many places don't sell normal coca cola and pepsi. They don't sell them any cheaper so just sell the real stuff at the astronomical prices we pay anyway for a splash of coke 😕

SomeoneInTheLaaaaaounge · 23/03/2023 21:15

Thank you Lord Jesus for fat Coke!!!

Windbeneathmybingowings · 23/03/2023 21:16

I can’t complain really. All brown drinks are bad for you, this one just contains a different type of poison than it did before 🤣

Sep200024 · 23/03/2023 21:19

I just can’t believe they continue to pass it off as ‘normal’ Pepsi.

Just stop selling the stuff altogether!

They already have Pepsi Max and Diet Pepsi available.

You can’t continue to sell something as ‘normal’ Pepsi when that’s not what’s in the can!

Boomboom22 · 23/03/2023 21:20

But sugar isn't inherently bad for you. Most fake sweeteners are. Although I believe Stevia is actually natural so may be ok. Its the ones that taste of plastic I hate. A chemist friend did some experiments with her students and she's told me to never touch the diet stuff especially aspartame.

Windbeneathmybingowings · 23/03/2023 21:21

Sugar is terrible for you.
