Who knew that they are putting aspartame into full fat Pepsi now?

All cans of full sugar Pepsi now have less than half the sugar content. The rest has been replaced with aspartame.

The cans look exactly the same, and you won’t know the difference unless you read the ingredients listing.

You could also tell the difference by looking at the traffic light system on the side of cans. Old cans will have 40% RDA sugar. The new cans now have 17% RDA sugar.

Unbelievable that they have made a change like this without doing anything to draw attention to it, or to let consumers know.

How many people with allergies or medical issues relating to aspartame will buy Pepsi without realising??

I'm really surprised that so many MN are singing the praises of fizzy drinks to be honest. With sugar, with sweetner, its all similar shite surely. Great alliteration if I do say so myself.

I thought only green tea or mineral water passed the lips of people on this forum.

I just looked up Teissere syrups online

they have tripled in price since I last bought them. So the peasants aren't allowed sugar any more? Anyone know of cheaper options? I think it's time to stock up.

I buy monin strawberry and add sparkling water. It’s lovely and refreshing.

been to farm foods. Pepsi is on offer at 2 for £22 on crates and it’s old recipe in mine currently. I have six crates squirrelled away in the store cupboard now 😂

I absolutely love Teissere syrups, always stock up when we go to France. Currently available in very limited flavours in Sainsbury's and Waitrose. Diluted with Perrier is heaven!

bruffin · 24/03/2023 19:50

I like sparkling water with bitters as an alternative

Nice one!
just looked at Monin, quite pricey too. Is it very concentrated?

I don't know but I do know that the term 'full fat' coke irrationally winds me up!!!!
There's no fat in any coke!!!
Just sugar or no sugar.

Me too

Reasonably concentrated yes. I buy boxes of 4 which is usually about £30 delivered, not cheap but lasts me a while.

Thanks Nails

I’ve just read on the SOS Save Our Sugar Facebook that both M&S and Waitrose now have sweetener free cordials too so that’s worth checking out.

Lakeland very often has Monin on offer so give it a try before you buy a few. Make sure you give it a good stir to mix it though.
I had it in a pub a few years ago (surprise surprise only Pepsi Max on draft) and it was delicious.

Just realised I’m in France in May too so might be worth a trip to Auchon Supermarket to look for the Tesserie Syrup as well. My stock cupboard shelves will be creaking 😂

Stugs · 24/03/2023 22:53

Waitrose pink grapefruit squash was always sweetener free and delicious. Hopefully it hasn't changed.

Jamie Oliver killed Lucozade, I loathe him now.

I miss lucozade I really really do 😢

KirstenBlest · 25/03/2023 13:24

The sweeteners are probably a lot worse for you than sugar.

KatyMac · 31/03/2023 11:42

Just so everyone knows I'm still in a strop about this along with sweetners in yogurt

crazeecatladee · 31/03/2023 11:51

@Windbeneathmybingowings Sugar per se is not bad for you. What is bad is the quantities we consume. Most carbs break down to glucose - that's how our bodies obtain energy. Large sudden intakes of sugar cause insulin spikes which is where the trouble starts

AutisticLegoLover · 31/03/2023 11:59

Bastards. Pepsi once a few times a year treat for me. I hate sweeteners.

Viviennemary · 31/03/2023 12:01

I don't get why people say full fat. AFAIK there is no fat in those drinks. Or if there is it's a miniscule amount or trace. -1

SecondhandMuck · 31/03/2023 12:03

it's been explained up thread

KirstenBlest · 31/03/2023 12:37

From what I read about the tests on the safety of saccharine, the reports were funded by the sweetener industry.

Fat-free coke - it wasn't funny the first time I heard it

I don't understand why sugar is suddenly the enemy. Some of the skinniest people I know have sugar in their tea. I think that what is bad is the endless grazing and fizzy/sugary drinks

I guess most of the sugar gets turned into fat by the body though!

fascinating.

KirstenBlest · 31/03/2023 13:33

I first heard it in the 1980s, @SecondhandMuck . Given that Coca-Cola has no fat in it, it made no sense.
