The previous thread filled up fast, so here's another one with a reasonably topical title!

This is ridiculous

NEW: Rishi Sunak’s police escort now consists of actual officers running beside his car… as well as pedal bikes

Hmm that's weird. Is it really him? Some questioning in replies. There seem to be an extraordinary number of police running and cycling. Not a great advert for met police.

RafaistheKingofClay · 24/04/2023 19:47

PMSL at the bikes when I saw that earlier. There’s something oddly British about it. Even they must have known what dickheads they looked like.

It's quite bizarre

Thought it was some kind of spoof

DuncinToffee · 24/04/2023 20:05

This also looks like a spoof but it is not, Unicorn Kingdom

What on earth is that???
It looks & sounds like a giant pisstake.

How much more taxpayers £££ are they going to throw away on gimmicky nonsense?

Roussette · 24/04/2023 21:41

I am speechless on this one. I thought it was a spoof. Sadly not.

We are in Trump times... he used to love this

Huh?

I'd attach a head scratch gif if I knew how.

That voiceover sounds like a massive piss take for a kick off.

Tweet from Jonathan Pie...not a joke

"So let me just get this straight...the alert thing that happened yesterday (that huge waste of time and money) was created by a company called Infosys. Infosys being the company run by Rishi Sunak's father-in-law. "

I saw this earlier but couldn't see it verified anywhere

The UK Government awarded the contract to Fujitsu who subsequently sub contracted the work to Indian company Infosys

L1ttledrummergirl · 25/04/2023 08:31

I wouldn't be surprised. It seems nowadays that all roads lead to infosys, they have their claws in everything. Like some malevolent organisation pulling all the strings (still in Russia). Ian Fleming would have a field day.

Joking aside- What has happened to the monopoly rules in this country? It seems government policy nowadays is anything that benefits the Sunaks and their wider family.

Well you don't get paid very much as Prime Minister so you have to pay for the wallpaper somehow.

the80sweregreat · 25/04/2023 10:10

I wonder if Rishi Sunak's wife has changed the interior at number 10 ?
That wallpaper cost a lot of money
Or do they live at number 11?

Hard to believe there was a time when we weren’t a national embarrassment at international summits.

Costly in financial and political terms!

But IMO hideous and difficult to live with - perhaps they've covered with a coat of emulsion

L1ttledrummergirl · 25/04/2023 11:20

Someone needs to create a new card game called which minister. Along the lines of "which prime minister spent a fortune on wallpaper?"(start easy), "which education secretary gave the country the finger?", "which home secretary sent refugees to Rwanda?".
I think it could be a hit.

RafaistheKingofClay · 25/04/2023 11:34

Cannot stop laughing at the bicycles.

Somewhere there was a meeting where they asked for motorbikes and we’re told that due to budget cuts they’d have to use bicycles instead.

Roussette · 25/04/2023 11:36

The thing is.... when Trump did it, when the unpleasant Erdogan and KimJong did it.... the security people actually looked kinda cool (suits and sunglasses like something out of a Bond move!)

With us, it's Benny Hill, bicycles and a few slightly rotund policeman struggling to keep up!

L1ttledrummergirl · 25/04/2023 11:40

Trump and KimJong are also heads of state. A big difference to the PM who holds no power. Everything has to be signed off by the King, which he does due to how our democracy has evolved.

It looks like a shit attempt at a power grab to me.

Could we have worst Minister top trumps?

Number of days in office (lowest wins)
Number of times sacked? (highest wins)
Number of investigations into bad behaviour.
Number of criminal punishments.
Sleaze rating

You get the idea.

L1ttledrummergirl · 25/04/2023 11:41

Love it!

I thought we had been told that the Prime Minister was in charge of Pot Plants and party entertainment to keep the morale of the staff up after Raab had been in the office?
