The previous thread filled up fast, so here's another one with a reasonably topical title!

I've just read the same thing. Tone deaf and cut off from reality.

AdamRyan · 25/04/2023 20:17

Hmm. No mention of Brexit in there. I don't see why I should have to accept a squeeze when I didn't fucking vote for it

Notonthestairs · 25/04/2023 20:24

So the Casey report found the Met to be institutionally racist, misogynistic and homophobic - Braverman thinks the problem is that they are too politically correct 🙄

Quite.
Not only didn't vote for Brexit, believed the experts who advised against doing it.
Unicorn Kingdom indeed 🦄

Oh JFC
"Good old fashioned common sense" sounds like she wants Gene Hunt back

AdamRyan · 26/04/2023 07:38

What does "come from and live in the communities they serve" mean do you think?

Sounds a bit sinister and segregation like to me....

We could have a Praetorian guard of Audi Quattros for Sunak. Grin

Well this is just nonsense and impractical. Two of my neighbours have adult children training to go in to the police force - both have had to move out of our county to do secure places. People move to where the work is.
But yes it does sound very "local shop for local people".

countrygirl99 · 26/04/2023 07:53

I know a couple of Met officers who live in Hertfordshire/Bedfordshire because they can't afford London.

Notonthestairs · 26/04/2023 07:55

"What does "come from and live in the communities they serve" mean do you think?"
Maybe we should apply the same to MPs.

My Tory MP tries to visit the constituency at least oncee a month. #dklemon.

L1ttledrummergirl · 26/04/2023 08:27

Once a month! You are truly spoiled.

DuncinToffee · 26/04/2023 09:29

Braverman on the rounds this morning, evil Angry

Will be interesting to see which Tory MP's stand up against the illegal migration bill, any have decency left?

DuncinToffee · 26/04/2023 09:51

And here she is just being ridiculous, 'labour's fault'

https://twitter.com/Haggis_UK/status/1651136176571441154?s=20
Watch Susanna Reid tear Suella Braverman apart over police numbers.

DuncinToffee · 26/04/2023 09:54

'It's Labour's fault' is featuring a lot recently. Coffey did it yesterday when questioned about raw sewage, Greg Hands tweets daily about the 'no money left' note.
I also expect an appearance in PMQs

Desperate

L1ttledrummergirl · 26/04/2023 10:08

They are pathetic. I have a family member who is now a police officer. They volunteer for a few shifts a month which are unpaid and expenses only paid.

How many officers have been recruited that are actually paid? I suspect if you take the specials out of the equation, nowhere near the target.

It's like having one full time expert in painting clown faces, or 10 volunteer clown face painters each working one day a month. The number means nothing on the days clown face painters are unavailable to get the government ready for work. Nothing can happen.

She says the last 10 years are irrelevant.

They are SO PROUD of their record in Government since 2010 the Home Secretary says that the last decade is irrelevant.

Absolutely ridiculous.

They didn't fall out of the sky in 2019 - much as they'd like to suggest otherwise. The Conservatives have been running public services for 13 years - 14 by the next election - and just look at the state we are in.

This thread explains well that all isn’t quite as it seems

https://twitter.com/DannyShawNews/status/1650955054025719813?s=20
Is the police uplift for real?

@ukhomeoffice straining every sinew to meet Boris Johnson’s pledge to recruit an extra 20,000 officers in England/Wales by March 31st 2023.

On Wednesday, we’ll find out if they’ve hit the target.

I expect they have.

But don’t be fooled…

Notonthestairs · 26/04/2023 10:24

Of course numbers of police officers arent necessarily providing the full picture - they've had to drop the age to allow younger applicants and those that will be in the job are not necessarily that experienced - we lost those 20,000 officers in the 2010s and their experience.

And then there is the issue of how they have been recruited and what extra checks will need to be introduced following the Casey report.

From an article in the Times from 2020 -

"However, given high attrition rates forces will need to hire a total of 53,000 new officers to meet the target, a challenge made even more difficult by the coronavirus pandemic.

A report for chief constables warned this year that once the increase is achieved by March 2023, about a third of the total 146,289 officers would have had fewer than three years’ service.

Police regulations were changed in June to allow applicants aged over 17 although they must still be 18 at the point when they become a police officer."

Police really are getting younger as recruitment age is cut to 17

While 17 remains too young legally to buy a pint or watch a horror film at the cinema it is now old enough to apply for a job as a police constable.Regulatio

Very interesting thread Duncin.
One giant fudge to save face.

I've absolutely no idea how Braverman thinks she can pretend the last decade of cuts is irrelevant.

There has been a video going around of a load of police officers cycling and jogging along side a car. If only you were as clever and successful as the cars occupant you would also know there were loads of police officers.

Who is more vile? Braverman or dodgy Jenrick? Such a difficult choice. Unfortunately we're stuck with both of them. For now.

Notonthestairs · 26/04/2023 11:18

Some things are going to the Tory plan...

"The final figures are in: just 63,279 people met last night's 5pm deadline to apply for new Voter ID.

That's a tiny 3% of the 2 MILLION people who lack the right ID to vote under the Govt's new rules."

twitter.com/paulwaugh/status/1651126548680830976?s=46&t=Uw4lJNwxFZFnX0Xs3doHYg

Meanwhile, here's a Tory leaflet delivered to a strongly Labour voting area in Norwich, telling people 'you don't need to take any ID in order to vote...'

@TownCloseEmma has reported it to the Electoral Commission.
