Sleeping in your birthday suit

Am in bed in pyjamas plus dressing gown freezing under the duvet and I wonder how did the habit of sleeping naked start? Do people do it in summer only but also in winter? Surely it wasn’t a thing years ago when bedrooms were not warmed and it was freezing indoors.

Also how do people ever get out of a warm bed naked or do they get changed under the covers first?

I mostly sleep naked but I’ve been wearing a T-shirt or short nightdress for the past month or so. I have a king size duvet so I can stretch out and still stay warm, or pull it right up to my chin without exposing my feet, plus a bedspread and blanket and hot water bottle. I’m cosy!

Swannning · 12/03/2023 23:21

I'm in bed with a thermal top, thermal leggings, fluffy socks and an oodie. The man snoring next to me is in a t-shirt (I feel the cold more) but in the warmer months I'm naked

Schmutter · 12/03/2023 23:22

We always sleep naked. We just get out of bed and put on a dressing gown.

Mumof1andacat · 12/03/2023 23:22

When you're of a certain age, you're hot most of the time! Saves on the heating bill

Me too.

evilharpy · 12/03/2023 23:26

My husband sleeps naked. I sleep with thick pyjamas, socks and a single size electric blanket on my side only. Both of us think the other is insane. I could never sleep naked, I'd freeze.

PurpleSproutingSomething · 12/03/2023 23:29

I sleep naked, have no heating in my bedroom and the window open, it's even better when it's properly cold.

It's 12 degrees currently.

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 12/03/2023 23:48

I can't stand being too hot in bed, I'd rather be cold for 5 minutes until the duvet and sheets warm up than wake up in the middle of the night sweating. During last summer when we had the really hot days and nights I bought one of those pet cooking mats and slipped it under the sheet on my side to keep myself cool 😀

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 12/03/2023 23:48

Oops pet cooling mats not cooking. There is no cooking of pets going on!

I sleep naked in my gorgeous super king sized bed all to myself. Duvet is tog 9 and windows always on vent unless the wind is howling in from the north east (not often).
DH on the other hand is in a double bed in another room because of his snoring, in pyjamas and probably a dressing gown and socks with a 15 tog duvet and a fleece blanket and the window very firmly closed.
I love my bed❤️

bellsbuss · 13/03/2023 00:17

We both sleep naked, have done from day 1. I prefer it as otherwise I would get hot

MissLucyLiu · 13/03/2023 00:20

I sleep naked unless i am on my period. At first my other half found it weird. And now 80% of the time he also sleep naked.

it is just so comfortable , so freeing. I also invest a lot in getting the bed quality bedsheet and cleaner change it every single week. It feels like a dream every night to sleep in fresh bedsheets like a hotel!

Luredbyapomegranate · 13/03/2023 00:23

Always sleep naked, only time I wore anything in bed is places like freezing Student flats in the depths of winter, and then only rarely.

Can’t stand wearing anything in bed. You can always put on an extra duvet - that’s why they’re called bedclothes innit. I just get up and put a dressing gown on.

GayforMoleman · 13/03/2023 00:26

Princess and the pea type situation here. All bedding is soft fluffy fleecey type year round and I can feel any wrinkle. Leccy blanket when it's cold. I live in pjs in the house during the day, sleep far better with nothing on.

Dartmoorcheffy · 13/03/2023 00:27

DP sleeps in boxers. He has a summer tog duvet all year . I sleep in a long t-shirt with a 10kg gravity blanket over our duvet.

I love being toasty hot and he likes to feel cool..

xprincessxjanetx · 13/03/2023 01:27

I often sleep without pyjamas but I simply cannot sleep without underwear on. The rare occasions I have done I wake up moist on the tops of my thighs and it's horrible!

Surely2023IsTheYearForMyRainbowBaby · 13/03/2023 01:59

I sleep naked. The only time I don't is if I'm sharing a hotel room with someone, then it's usually just a tee shirt and a pair of knickers or some cycling shorts. Other than that I much prefer to be free in bed.

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 13/03/2023 02:06

I'm in my mid forties and I've been a naked sleeper since I was about 13. Maybe I've got warm blood but I can never relate to people sleeping bundled up in multiple layers. Sounds stifling.

BritInAus · 13/03/2023 02:29

I wear PJs in the evening after a shower/bath and/or just around the house, but then take off to sleep. Put them back on in the morning if I'm not rushing straight into the shower - dressing gown or hoody/oodie too during winter. Otherwise just hop straight into a warm shower.

Aquamarine1029 · 13/03/2023 02:36

I could never wear thick pyjamas, but I also can't sleep completely naked. It's just not comfortable to me. I sleep in a cotton t-shirt, no knickers, no matter what the temperature is.

blebbleb · 13/03/2023 02:41

I always wear pjs. Even in the hottest summer i wear knickers. Feels more hygienic and comfortable.

Goodread1 · 13/03/2023 03:59

I prefer winter time sleeping warm in my dressing gown no pj's on or nightie,

I prefer pj's to hurridly put on wear if post man knocks on my door

Illbeready · 13/03/2023 04:01

Sleep naked all year round.

GoodChat · 13/03/2023 05:02

I wonder how did the habit of sleeping naked start?

Before clothes existed it wasn't just a habit Grin

This. I've slept in a vest top and pants for many years now. Am 45. And often hot, though the HRT seems to have stopped the night sweats!

OP i don't own a dressing gown. I keep a jumper by the bed for getting up.

I don't know how you can sleep in all those clothes, how do you move around in your sleep?!
