Sleeping in your birthday suit

Am in bed in pyjamas plus dressing gown freezing under the duvet and I wonder how did the habit of sleeping naked start? Do people do it in summer only but also in winter? Surely it wasn’t a thing years ago when bedrooms were not warmed and it was freezing indoors.

Also how do people ever get out of a warm bed naked or do they get changed under the covers first?

We all sleep naked most if not all year round in my house. It’s a way of life. All beds have electric blankets if needed or an Oodie.

it’s so free waking up naked

SybilWrites · 13/03/2023 06:17

I sleep with something on - even if it's just knickers and a tshirt/vest top. It's not to do with the cold, but I prefer the feeling of being clothed. I'm less keen on pj bottoms as they twist around.

I've had a couple of boyfriends who prefer to sleep completely naked. I prefer them with boxers on if I'm being honest (it's more attractive and I have a possibly illogical view that underwear contains poo crumbs) but their choice I suppose (the first one tried to impose nakedness on me too).

BatshitCrazyWoman · 13/03/2023 06:23

I've slept naked for as long as I can remember. I cannot fathom wearing clothes in bed, I would it so uncomfortable and not be able to sleep (if I stay in someone's house I feel like I need to wear PJs or something, and I get NO sleep because it feels weird).

I also like the window open, the heating firmly off, and the room to be decidedly chilly.

hoophoophooray · 13/03/2023 06:27

Just knickers here. Can't stand being too hot

JunkinDonuts · 13/03/2023 06:33

We've always slept naked in bed whatever the weather. Sometimes I'll put a pair of baggy socks on if it's exceptionally cold.
On a morning we tend to hop straight into the shower then get dressed.
I feel like a trussed up turkey if I wear anything in bed.
Although, I did buy us both a pair of emergency pyjamas in case one of us lands in hospital.

Me and dh both sleep naked all year round minus maybe a few v cold nights

Wallywobbles · 13/03/2023 11:37

I don't like stick to DH so wear something. Never pj bottoms though. In summer I just wear pants because I'm so absurdly hot.

pipppa · 13/03/2023 15:33

Have slept nude from age 18 onwards - first night at university in halls of residence I decided that I didnt want to wear pyjamas as statement of transition to adulthood. I used to get so hot in bed in pjs!

Schmutter · 12/03/2023 23:22

We always sleep naked. We just get out of bed and put on a dressing gown.

Same here.

Swannning · 12/03/2023 23:21

I'm in bed with a thermal top, thermal leggings, fluffy socks and an oodie. The man snoring next to me is in a t-shirt (I feel the cold more) but in the warmer months I'm naked

Surely the man's not just wearing a t shirt? Like Donald Duck?

HecticHedgehog · 13/03/2023 16:09

Don't like wearing anything in bed. Pjs and nighties just get all twisted up for me.

gogohmm · 13/03/2023 16:20

My house never gets cold, it's fairly new so to the highest insulation standards and triple glazed. If i need to go downstairs I put on a dressing gown. I'm also of a certain age, I'm sitting in my house currently without heating on (since 8am) in just a thin dress and tights

gogohmm · 13/03/2023 16:22

No worn pjs since having the kids, breastfeeding at night was easier when clothing free

Debbie453 · 13/03/2023 16:26

Since moving out I've slept naked. My DD, DS and DH all sleep naked. Everyone has an electric blanket for winter. We are all happy to wander the house nude or with a dressing gown. It gives great body confidence too

TorviShieldMaiden · 13/03/2023 16:28

I always sleep naked, except when camping. But then only a pair of leggings and a T-shirt.

And I have the window open all year round. I can’t sleep wearing any clothes.

Londonnight · 13/03/2023 16:47

I've slept naked all my adult life. I hate wearing anything in bed and get far too hot if I do. I keep my bedroom window open all year round, even when it is really cold outside.

blebbleb · 13/03/2023 17:01

@Debbie453 each to their own but I hated my parents walking around naked Envy would never subject my child to me parading around in the nude!

strawberryicecreamice · 13/03/2023 17:01

Naked, heating off, window open and still get hot 🥵

OrlandointheWilderness · 13/03/2023 17:04

Oh we are always naked! Love cuddling up to DP and it's nothing on, it feels so close and intimate.

Queenof1964 · 13/03/2023 17:13

@hamsterchump

Donald Duck🐥 🤣🤣
I wish I hadn’t read that… my DP is a “Donald” and I can’t unsee it now!!

PurpleSproutingSomething · 12/03/2023 23:29

I sleep naked, have no heating in my bedroom and the window open, it's even better when it's properly cold.

It's 12 degrees currently.

Absolutely all of this! We also have a ceiling fan for when it's not freezing outside enough.

cpphelp · 13/03/2023 17:21

I actually think I'd even sleep naked if in a sleeping bag in a tent! Hate the feeling of clothes at night

BabyST · 13/03/2023 17:25

Mine also have freedom around the house if they want to be bare they go bare. Each family is different our kids have grown up having freedom in bed and around the house.

mimbleandlittlemy · 13/03/2023 17:32

"Surely it wasn’t a thing years ago when bedrooms were not warmed and it was freezing indoors."

They certainly slept naked in the Middle Ages - lots of pictures and documentary evidence.

I always used to sleep naked then started wearing a t-shirt or something when I had baby/small child to get up to. Now tend to sleep naked in summer and thin cotton night shirt sort of thing in the winter. PJs waaaay too hot.
