Hope the Attenborough story gets shared far and wide; plenty of publicity.

D'ya think the BBC Chairman being Richard Sharp, Sir Robbie Gibb being on the board and Tim Davie being DG is having an affect at all?

DuncinToffee · 10/03/2023 16:56

More WTF BBC

NEW: BBC says that Gary Lineker is to "step back from presenting Match of the Day until agreement reached on social media."

I am literally spreading it everywhere! (including on a RF thread on here!)

And all over Twitter.

Didn't some at Tufton Street wanting to defund the BBC? I recall Sharp being linked.

It wouldn't have been just once.
It never is.

Exactly. It never ever is just once. Unless you leave after the very first time they hit you.

If your values don't align with a specialist court set up to ensure something like the Holocaust never happens again then you need to reassess your fucking values. She makes me so bloody angry.

This needs to be projected onto the back of her coat everywhere she goes. Utterly atrocious human that she is.

I’m waiting to see how she spins Sunaks meeting with macron. It sounded very sycophantic to me. I’m fine with that and would welcome better relations with France as our closest neighbour after RoI but it doesn’t sound like a relationship she’d take to easily.

I found it noteworthy Macron could point to tangible successes against people trafficking - don’t hear much of that this side of the channel.

Good work @Roussette ! Smile

Ian Wright not presenting MOTD on Saturday in solidarity
I'm sure he doesn't read MN but just in case 👊✌

pointythings · 10/03/2023 18:25

Time for ITV to have another crack at a rival show. With the original presenters.

L1ttledrummergirl · 10/03/2023 18:32

Fh, huge football fan, never misses motd has decided he's boycotting the programme and is encouraging his fellow fans to do the same.
He's not at all political, frequently joins dd I eyerolling when I talk about stuff and I'm sure only goes to vote because I drag him there.
I'm not sure what's happening to him, this is starting to become a habit. I've yet to tell them about Attenborough.

I'll say now that I've had a good rant about Attenborough over the last few years because of the preaching about the environment in his documentaries. I object to being told that I shouldn't do things that he has already done because I will personally be responsible for killing the planet. That's my decision so dh watches when I'm not around. Cancelling them because they don't fit the current agenda is not acceptable though.

They are making a mistake re: Attenborough
He is universally beloved

AdamRyan · 10/03/2023 18:40

I think they have also fucked up with Lineker. He's very very good on MOTD and can walk into another job, he didn't say anything outrageous and he's a football presenter, not a journalist.
It's flipping ridiculous and the BBC look stupid. And they've painted themselves into a corner. I hope Lineker sticks to his guns

I think he will
As you say he can walk into another job

IClaudine · 10/03/2023 18:45

Alan Shearer won't present either. No one will want to.

IClaudine · 10/03/2023 18:46

Agree BBC have totally fucked this up. They should have just let it slide, but obviously pressure has been brought to bear fom certain quarters...

Eve · 10/03/2023 18:49

I’ve submitted a complaint and asked for a response .

Elodie09 · 10/03/2023 18:53

What about the much more obvious Tory bias at the BBC, ably demonstrated on actual BBC programmes, not on a private twitter account? Surely that is not BBC impartiality ? Oh, of course, it is pro Tory bias, that's ok then.

DuncinToffee · 10/03/2023 18:56

It has stopped people talking about Sunak’s payments to France

The great thing is about it is, that what Linekar said gets repeated exposure, which I for one don't think is a bad thing.

tobee · 10/03/2023 19:04

And for the BBC stops people talking about getting rid of the choir and squashing the orchestras.

Although people not so interested in arts as sport.
