I don't mind starting a thread on party gate even if I probably can't contribute much. I was thinking of putting it in politics and keeping it boring/factual rather than turning it in a aibu Boris love fest.

What do you all think?

No, please keep it here in Chat (we're not in AIBU?). It is good to keep it somewhere where people who aren't that into politics might see and read. I think there are people who read but don't post.

Sorry, totally misread post and thought you meant moving the next of these threads!

DuncinToffee · 22/03/2023 09:51

No worries, I didn't think about putting it in Chat Smile

I will have a think, could do with a summary and agenda of today's events.

In the mean time

The Privilege Committee evidence is here:

Really brings home the fact that Johnson was never assured that "all guidance was followed" and in fact everyone around him was saying that it probably wasn't. Absolutely absurd for him to claim nonetheless that he believed until Sue Gray's report that it was

"I'm struggling to come up with a way this one is in the rules..."

"Martin's worried about leaks of PM having a piss up and to be fair I don't think it's unwarranted"

"I'm struggling to come up with a way this one was within the rules in my head"

Christ almighty - the UK is going through hell and Government advisors are busy covering up piss ups and lies.

Hold onto your hats. It's a spreadsheet day

Brexit rebellion growing with some BIG names saying they'll vote against Rishi Sunak's deal, inc 2 former PMs.

12 MPs have confirmed they won't vote for the deal today (by my count) - how many more join this group?

Steve Baker has urged Johnson not to become a "poundshop Nigel Farage" !

The problem with the Windsor Agreement is that it doesn't come with the promised unicorns. Some are still not accepting the reality that leaving the EU means there has to be a border somewhere. You can't reason with people who are in total denial of reality.

Notonthestairs · 22/03/2023 10:40

I think they know there are no unicorns but only by manufacturing a trade war with the EU can they hope to hold on to their seats.

Do. Don't forget a link here. It might get hijacked though!

And bear in mind I will be extremely rude. I won't be able to help it!

And we need to keep an eye on this thread which is finishing

Apparently inflation is down to salad. The lettuce strikes back.

I’d be affronted by being used as a comparison to Truss. Even if I were a vegetable.

Sunak said during PMQs that his government is halving inflation, does he not read the news?

AdamRyan · 22/03/2023 13:07

I love Keir Starmer for asking about rape prosecution rates. Hope he keeps the pressure up on that

Why is he allowed to get away with this? Why are they allowed to spout lies that then make it to the headlines of right wing papers? This should be challenged immediately by the speaker.

Notonthestairs · 22/03/2023 13:56

Sunak's tax return to be published later today. Hoping to hide it under Johnson's 💩 maybe?

Fucking hell seriously, one of the conservatives has just said (paraphrasing), they didn't need to think about a border with the EU when they were drawing up the agreements originally as we were part of the EU at that point.

Ffs, that was the whole fucking point, we were leaving, we needed new agreements. If they failed to understand that basic fact, how the fuck could they understand the agreements? What the fuck did they think they were voting for?

That MP was golden though, the PM asked her to vote for it so she did.

Seriously, what the actual fuck?

That looks awful. I know there were weather warnings out but thought that area would escape the worst if it.

Speaker is useless

Alison McGovern, "He says we are halving inflation on the very day we have found out that inflation is in fact rising. How can Prime Minister Rishi Sunak correct the record?"

Hoyle, "It's up to him."

BREAKING: The Stormont Brake statutory instrument that is part of the 'Windsor Framework' is voted through by the Commons by 515 to 29 votes. Will bring you breakdown of Tory rebellion numbers as I get it, but it seems tiny, considering DUP votes

Best for Britain

DUP 8 plus 21 Tory rebels?
Interesting.
Sunak must feel cheered by that.

Notonthestairs · 22/03/2023 14:54

Did it mention abstentions? I read Sunsk was offering slips so some MPs didn't need to turn up (to vote against)
