I liked TM, i listened to all the PM leader pitches post brexit and she was the only one who seemed a) credible and b) approaching a decent human. I'm glad she's putting the party under pressure

Hmm. Remember the Go Home vans? I think TM just seems decentish compared to the monsters we have, but she really isn't very nice IMHO.

Bill passes second reading by 312 to 250.

Not sure if this has already been posted, but it really does seem to epitomise the sheer nasty inhumanity of the Home Office's attitude to immigrants. www.theguardian.com/world/2023/mar/11/afghan-girls-may-be-blocked-from-taking-gcses-as-families-moved-from-london

I'd hazard a guess that about 8 of the 312 actually read it.
The rest just did what they were told.

Have to hope the Lords exercise a bit more independent thought and rigour.

Surely it not beyond the wit of the authorities to at least give them a chance to complete this bit of their education?

Roussette · 14/03/2023 07:55

Chris Bryant sums up the Immigration Bill for me.

Welcome.

I personally find these threads very illuminating and educating.
With some great humour thrown in!

I hope you find the same .

Yy above, these threads have helped keep me reasonably sane/educated me whilst making me laugh instead of crying at the sheer horror that is this government.

Fladdermus · 14/03/2023 09:47

I see thoughts on Theresa May weren't far off. Spoke out strongly against the illegal Migration Bill but then abstained on the vote. Coward!

That part about the West Yorkshire firearms office is chilling. Any firearms officer who has an allegation of domestic or other violence made against them should be suspended immediately.

At least she didn’t join her colleagues in the yes lobby. I’m not defending her but I can see why she did it. They all know it’s going to be torn apart in the Lords anyway.

Also a big "hardworking people" day tomorrow - the Tory budget!

To be honest... only another Prince Andrew interview will top this! Hope it's Chris Bryant questioning him 🤣

Sunak breaks therules again

From the Mirror
Rishi Sunak spoken to by police after breaking rules while walking dog in London park
The PM's close protection officers had to step in after the Prime Minister's labrador Nova was allowed to run free in Hyde Park in London - just yards from a sign warning it was against the rules

Important note from the Privileges Committee’s announcement of its plan to interrogate Boris Johnson next week on whether he lied to parliament about Partygate.

Oh, not sure I can stand it. Plus the Johnson lovers will probably be out in force.

Yeah, all going 'what about Keir's beer' and similar BS. Not watching and will be keeping off threads if I can.

Sometimes having a job is most inconvenient. 🤣🤣🤣

I'd love to watch that.

I'm relying on a great commentary from you all to read when I get home

It probably will need a thread of its own Grin

Notonthestairs · 14/03/2023 18:13

He's already been provided with the same evidence/information that the Committee have seen, coached to the NTh degree by his Barrister and whatever aides we are paying for. No doubt adding a few cheeky chappie anecdotes and a waft of Latin to round it off.

It will be a massive panto with him as Widow Twanky.

Im going to try to swerve the coverage as much as I can.

L1ttledrummergirl · 14/03/2023 18:31

Sunak really couldn't give a shit about following the same rules as everyone else. What a fucking knob.
