What's changed? I imagine it's this increasingly desperate Government....

I struggle with Nick Triggle because - on a completely shallow level- I like his voice. But a lot of his reporting is biased. It was the same during Covid.

It's that BBC thing where they have to both sides everything- and so they end up criticising, minimising , misrepresenting. Their vox pops are often like this too. Find some one who agrees with something controversial and let them spout arrant nonsense.

My local channel is so much better!!

DuncinToffee · 12/03/2023 18:35

The other now full thread is a fine example of how to dismantle flawed arguments with facts.

But sometimes there are no both sides of the debate. It then becomes someone's opinion.

Better to stick to facts.

Yes I agree!

Interesting.

"I fail to see what this legislation is going to do to act as a deterrent."

Conservative MP Caroline Nokes says she won't vote for Rishi Sunak's migration bill.

I was agreeing with you in a clumsy way Grin

Just goes to show how ridiculous the BBC's stance is.

OMG David Attenborough just mentioned welcoming migrants - cancel him quick (even if he was talking about birds)

Moonicorn · 12/03/2023 19:41

I don’t dislike Sunak. He’s better than anything we’ve had for a while. I’m withholding judgement for now.

The Illegal Migration Bill

Seven questions the government needs to answer about the bill if it has any chance of helping the PM ‘stop the boats'.

Very interesting paper from Institute of Government tackling many of the practical problems of the Illegal Migration Bill.

I was particularly interested in the questions about where they were intending to send people and the request for evidence that the policy will actually work.

pointythings · 12/03/2023 20:18

@Moonicorn that bar is about half an inch high.

But the only bar we have right now.

pointythings · 12/03/2023 20:27

Until we get a GE, sadly. Such a shame Boris and the Brexit loons evicted all the sane, reasonable, capable people from the party.

I do. He is politically incompetent as well as nastily right wing. Not a great combination.

Bloody forrin birds. Coming here, taking fatballs off hard working sparrows.

Ps, is anyone else plagued by huge adverts? It is so annoying, getting in the way of me ranting.

What is ‘nastily right wing’? What even is ‘right wing’ these days bar anything other than unquestioning agreement with the hard left?

pointythings · 12/03/2023 20:49

Who are the hard left in the UK? Because it certainly isn't the Opposition.

Sporty2022 · 12/03/2023 20:56

I genuinely would like to know what people’s solutions are to stopping lots of young men crossing the channel.
The government don’t know either- Sunaks answer is to give France £500 million to build another immigration centre. I fail to see how this will stop the crossings.

But I don’t think anyone has the answers , including Labour.

There aren’t any answers.

The only things we can do are break international law by denying them asylum, or physically stopping the boats from setting off.

There is absolutely nothing else.

Yes that’s true. Genuinely, what’s the appeal to coming here though? Rather than other EU countries? I honestly would like to understand.
