Continuation of previous threads (thread 5).

Gather here all ye refugees from the JTT Flat Earth Society, welcome to the reassuringly oblate spheroid of MN! Ye all already know the answers to the questions "How the heck do I format my post?" "Why can't I edit my typos?" "What do those acronyms mean?" and most importantly, "Where is everybody that I used to know?"

So really we're all here just to chat randomly.

I don't think I've been anywhere even vaguely unusual. I've been places but you know, not "Ooh, I've never been there!" places. Then again, I'll probably wake up in the wee small hours and remember that I've been to Mars or something.

Tomorrow is not just Good Friday for me. It's Very Good Friday because it's my birthday! I was going to go out for a meal but I'm a bit food phobic at the moment so I'm going out with some friends for ice cream because I have no phobia that ice cream will get stuck down my throat. Also, the coldness is very soothing.

MouseMinge · 06/04/2023 22:51

I thought I'd changed my name. Hopefully it's working now.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 06/04/2023 22:57

Ice cream sounds an excellent plan. Have a lovely birthday.

duc748 · 07/04/2023 00:23

Happy birthday, Crows! Flowers

Good Friday only means one thing in these parts; the annual derby with St Helens, the oldest rivalry in the history of the sport (or any sport, probably). And at home this year, for the first time since 2019. So I think beer will be drunk tomorrow.

angelico53 · 07/04/2023 08:03

Happy birthday, Crows!

Kucinghitam · 07/04/2023 08:05

Happy birthday @NotDrowningJustCrowing! Wishing you a lovely day of sunshine, blossom, and oodles and oodles of gelato.

Happy birthday! Enjoy your ice cream 🍦

SqueakyDinosaur · 07/04/2023 11:19

Happy hippy hoppy birthday @NotDrowningJustCrowing !

I'm in Norfolk glancing anxiously at my mother's washing machine, as she put a rather generous scoop of Vanish in it, and I am worried it's about to spew foam all over the kitchen. I suppose at least it would mean that the floor would get washed.

NotDrowningJustCrowing · 07/04/2023 11:46

Thanks all. The sun is out which bodes well. Another good friend is going to visit from London tomorrow so things are good.

UnfortunatePoster · 07/04/2023 11:55

Happy birthday Crows! I'm trying to work up the enthusiasm to go to the gym. Got the gear on, water bottle full, absolutely nothing stopping me, yet here I am.

Britinme · 07/04/2023 12:32

Happy birthday Crows - ice cream sounds like just the thing.

artant · 07/04/2023 12:33

Happy birthday @NotDrowningJustCrowing

Ice cream is the very best kind of food and it’s just the day for it!

duc748 · 07/04/2023 12:38

Has anyone linked to Boiledbeetle's book at the old place?

CyanCrystalViolet · 07/04/2023 12:55

Happy birthday @MouseMinge! Enjoy the ice cream, lovely day for it.

MavisMcMinty · 07/04/2023 13:15

Happy birthday Crows!

And happy Crucifixion Day to everyone else! I remember when it was second only to Christmas Day in terms of holiness and shops being closed, with Sunday opening hours for pubs (12.00-14.00 and 19.00-22.30).

As usual for Easter in Devon, it’s a gorgeous hot sunny day.

SqueakyDinosaur · 07/04/2023 13:20

I was discussing with my mother how almost all churches used to do the 3 hour service on Good Friday, but now it seems to be only cathedrals, and not even all of them.

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 07/04/2023 16:20

We break it up more - Mass and stripping the altar yesterday evening, Scripture / veneration of the cross / communion mid afternoon today (about 1 hour), Stations of the cross this evening, Vigil mass / new light / blessing the holy water and the paschal candle tomorrow evening, Easter mass proper on Sunday. I think it's the first time I'll have done the four days running since my parents got sick and I'm enjoying it - inasmuch as hearing vivid descriptions of torture and betrayal can be enjoyable (won't go to the Stations).

MavisMcMinty · 07/04/2023 16:28

Anyone else remember Jesus of Nazareth on telly in the 70s? Robert Powell made an extremely beautiful blue-eyed Jesus, and as I grew up in an atheist household the story was not well-known to me, and the savagery of his crucifixion was utterly horrifying. Mankind can be terrible.

A plumber once told me the story of moving a washing machine to find the ancient skeleton of a cat, and the old Devon farmer saying with delight: “There she be!”

Tricyrtis2022 · 07/04/2023 17:11

Happy birthday, Crows, enjoy the ice cream!

Good cat story, Mavis. I'm wondering at the farmer not noticing the smell of the decaying cat, but maybe it was masked by the smell of the farm.

artant · 07/04/2023 17:34

Robert Powell was beautiful. I don’t think I actually watched the Jesus thing but I remember it being on.

angelico53 · 07/04/2023 19:16

Sad news of the excellent darkhorse in the old place, the most unwelcome post I've read. He has a nasty cancer, has been ill for sometime, actually. I don't want to guess what the prognosis is. One of the good ones, I always think.

CyanCrystalViolet · 07/04/2023 19:35

Just read the post, how awful. I’m glad he has lots of support around him.

Had a lovely day out with a friend. Drove up to a nature reserve and had a proper wander. Battled to get my car out of the mud and then on to the supermarket for last-minute Easter egg shopping. Topped off with a curry at an Indian restaurant and ice cold beer. Now to sit in front of Corrie and eat chocolate.
