Thread 6 - TalkExiles: "Yup, still round."

Kucinghitam · 07/03/2023 13:49

Continuation of previous threads (thread 5).

Gather here all ye refugees from the JTT Flat Earth Society, welcome to the reassuringly oblate spheroid of MN! Ye all already know the answers to the questions "How the heck do I format my post?" "Why can't I edit my typos?" "What do those acronyms mean?" and most importantly, "Where is everybody that I used to know?"

So really we're all here just to chat randomly.

Vet:

Her back teeth are not good, but undecided about treatment because would require GA for cleaning and probable extraction, which could be the end of her at her age. Apart from appalling breath, doesn't seem to be upsetting her in any way or affecting her eating, whereas if teeth extracted would be long recovery. So it's a quality of life balance thing. Sold me some brown cat toothpaste.

The lump in her cheek, not entirely obvious what it is because it is much smaller and therefore hard to find the source, but likelihood is that she ate a bee. WTF, she's definitely old enough to know better.

My mad cat-lady friend lost an older cat under GA having its teeth cleaned, so it certainly can happen. Some horses have vaso-vagal attacks and conk out when being treated by the horse dentist!

Badger fucked off for 55 minutes this morning. I was on the loo and heard some horses go by, when I came out he’d gone, presumably down the bridleway after them. Just strolled in, tongue lolling, covered in mud. Such relief! I don’t do Facebook, but macman tells me there are occasional snidey pass-agg posts on the village FB group about “an intact male dog” roaming around, so bracing myself for more of that.

Oh Phoebe.

Yesterday when I was letting the wasps out I warned them all not to come back because of Waspie's awful fate last year in the jaws of Rosy. Why are darling cats so daft?

SqueakyDinosaur · 18/04/2023 14:28

I ought to feel guilty that you kindly let wasps out whereas I stamped on one yesterday, @DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry , but as I am quite badly allergic to their stings I think I'll let myself off. I suspect it was a young queen looking for somewhere to nest - there was a nest in my attic a few years ago and it bothered me a lot.

I've just sent a traumatic email (cancelling a work contract but with someone I now know quite well) so I'm feeling quite shaky. Might need to have a lie-down.

“I’ve never seen a ghost in this house and I’ve been here two hundred years”

Haha! Excellent!

Cats are both so much more intelligent than dogs and utterly, unbelievably stupid.

Stupid: I will eat a bee because what's the worst that can happ ... ouch, my cheek hurts!

More intelligent than a dog:

Dog: This food is quite obviously rank, rotten, will make me spew up my intestines. I will eat it!

Cat: This food is slightly not fresh. Take it away from me human scum.

NotDrowningJustCrowing · 18/04/2023 20:49

24 hours of no cat litter tray. Django - I'm pretty sure - peed in the bath by the plug hole. I actually see this as quite clever, almost like using the toilet. I wish I could teach them to use the toilet. Other than that, nothing. No poop or pee anywhere in the house. My fingers are well and truly crossed that the days of cat litter are over. To be fair I've only been doing it since I moved here in December but I bloody hate it.

weaseleyes · 18/04/2023 21:25

Oh, @Kucinghitam , what a trial she is!

Oh, @Kucinghitam , what a trial she is!

She knows we'd do anything for our cat overlord!

As we are coming to the last 4% of the thread, I'm thinking about a further evolution of the thread name. I for one don't feel like an exile anymore, but at the same time it would be nice to acknowledge our origin story.

TalkHomestead? TalkSettlers? ? ?

Talkrecoverers
Talksurvivors

I know there are some odd ducks on here and some extraordinary snobbery, but I love the lack of schoolboy bullying.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 19/04/2023 07:49

I like TalkHomestead. Although it might lure in lost posters who were aiming for the prepper board.

TalkLair? (Or JustTalkLair or something?) (Hints at our Bad People backstory)

Talklair is good. I like the suggestion of gnawing on the bones of our prey.

Lair is good.

This thread is bringing me joy.

Some years ago, I went on a trip to the U.S. My brother asked me to buy a pair of shoes for him from (at the time) a poncy brand hard to find outside the U.S.

Upon locating the poncy store on a poncy street in which no actual shoes were displayed because that wouldn't have been poncy enough, I was greeted enthusiastically by a very smiley assistant, but then I made him sad because instead of engaging in conversation about the products, I just pulled out my phone to show him my brother's text message and said "I want to buy This Particular Model in This Size and This Colour."

Meanwhile, another customer had come in and I overheard him asking another assistant something like, "So, how does this work?" and receiving the smiley reply, "Well, we'll bring out a selection of our pieces and you'll see which ones reach out to you..."

Some top notch ranting on that thread.

artant · 19/04/2023 12:39

If shoes reached out to me I think I’d probably run away!

Britinme · 19/04/2023 12:53

"Reach out" is used a lot here where I would say "contact" and yes, it does sound pincer to me.

mach2 · 19/04/2023 12:54

You know me of old, Kutch - that thread looks like catnip to me!

Thread name: If it was mostly blokes who had come over I would recommend "Talkspreaders" but I don't think it works as things are 😆

SinnerBoy · 19/04/2023 13:23

I've just posted on there, it's OK, the hyperventilation has stopped now.

Britinme · 19/04/2023 13:25

Dammit when I wrote pincer I obviously meant poncey but this iPad thinks it knows better than I do.

Kucinghitam · 19/04/2023 15:18

I'm wondering about posting my poncy shoes story there...

OP posts:
SinnerBoy · 19/04/2023 15:25

Poncy, poncy, poncy! Gwaan, do it!

Kucinghitam · 19/04/2023 15:28

Right then, I shall!
