Continuation of previous threads (thread 5).

Gather here all ye refugees from the JTT Flat Earth Society, welcome to the reassuringly oblate spheroid of MN! Ye all already know the answers to the questions "How the heck do I format my post?" "Why can't I edit my typos?" "What do those acronyms mean?" and most importantly, "Where is everybody that I used to know?"

So really we're all here just to chat randomly.

Very expressive. I've realised what his gaze reminds me of, it's a project by Nina Katchadourian called 'Lavatory Portraits in the Flemish Style'. There's one where she has a similar upward gaze.

Even with my years of “ooh, have you looked at this” random art references for students, I’m not sure I’d have got from a cat to Nina Katchadourian! Glad you did though: her work always makes me smile and I haven’t seen any in ages.

I love magnolia trees but sadly don’t have space for one. There are a few good ones round here though and some lovely cherry blossom (though a few of those trees have died).

Next door’s plum blossom mostly blew away during the weird bit of snow the other week. There was a point when I looked out and wondered whether I was looking at snow or blossom and it turned out to be both!

artant · 03/04/2023 20:19

And happy birthday to the twins. 14!

MavisMcMinty · 03/04/2023 20:36

Oh wow, those “Flemish” portraits are wonderful, and hilarious! Thanks for the link.

weaseleyes · 03/04/2023 20:59

Happy birthday, Cells!

SinnerBoy · 04/04/2023 02:44

I was on deck before my shift begins and there was a pod of 20 Pan-Tropical Dolphins. I got a 20 second video, but only a few were there by the time I'd fired it up.

Typical!

UnfortunatePoster · 04/04/2023 08:16

Wow, that sounds amazing Sinner!

My poor magnolia has been scalded by the frost - third year in a row. The cherry tree got a massive prune back end of last year, and hasn’t blossomed at all - always the same the spring after the prune.

Tricyrtis2022 · 04/04/2023 08:44

That garden looks like a particularly weird obstacle course. Maybe it's a part of some new game?

Kucinghitam · 04/04/2023 09:10

LOL at the floorplan!

One of my best friends lives in Thurles!

artant · 04/04/2023 11:49

That’s a very, um, individual approach to what could have been a lovely garden.

Odd choice of floor plan, though the actual floor plan is buried in the photos and it doesn’t exactly flow.

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 04/04/2023 11:57

I've just been reminded of a meeting I chaired many years ago where one of the more vocal (and nuts) participants tried to spend the entire time insisting that the whole population of Thurles was in serious need of psychiatric intervention (literally her words). The meeting was in Thurles, which made it all a little nerve-wracking.

Anyhow, the house is waaaaaay out in Moyne, not the same thing at all. Nice cheese made down there https://www.cooleeney.com/ , and interesting archaeology in the peatlands. And big big windmills.

artant · 04/04/2023 15:06

I did have a much longer post about what a lovely spring day it is but it vanished so I’ll just say there’s a bear dozing in the garden. It was stuck in a tree a couple of weeks ago. I’m assuming it got there courtesy of a fox but who knows.

weaseleyes · 04/04/2023 17:55

That's a very contented looking bear.

Britinme · 04/04/2023 18:59

Not just the floor plan oddity - how are they squashing 4 bedrooms into1250 square feet? Tiny rooms surely.

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 04/04/2023 19:43

They are tiny bedrooms - 7 feet by 10 iirc. I wonder is the main block older than it looks, possibly originally a council or Bord na Mona cottage from the 20s or 30s, providing enough rooms for a family but using minimal materials (not a bad thing). The original bathroom and back kitchen kept away from the main living space in accordance with the hygiene theory of the day.

NotDrowningJustCrowing · 04/04/2023 22:50

I've been to Thurles because my mum's family is from Roscrea so we've visited while visiting them. On the whole, I prefer Roscommon, where my dad's family is from but that may just be because I prefer my dad's family.

Re the mangled lips. They're not cold sores but blister-type nonsense caused by my lips drying out. The pharmacist has advised me to moisturise the living fuck out of them. His exact words. Not really.

Kucinghitam · 05/04/2023 12:22

After a few days of glorious spring sunshine, we're back to gloom and drizzle. Unfortunately, with the bathroom works this means an extra load of dust and mud spread all over the house. They've put down protective floor covers and all, but everybody stomping up and down the stairs and carrying things in and out means MUD. And they're the same stairs that we also have to use, and we're obviously going in and out of all our rooms.

Am I alone in really hating people in my house, even when they're doing essential repairs?

Tricyrtis2022 · 05/04/2023 12:44

I don't particularly like it either, @Kucinghitam . We've had an electrician here for two days and are doing our best to be patient, but I'll be very glad when he's finished.

Gonners · 05/04/2023 13:26

@Kucinghitam Am I alone in really hating people in my house, even when they're doing essential repairs?

As a general rule, I prefer workmen to visitors and therefore give them better biscuits!

Tricyrtis2022 · 05/04/2023 14:37

The electrician's boss just turned up to have a look. Spoke to him for a few minutes and got really intense serial killer vibes. Don't know what it was about him, but he made my hair stand on end.

duc748 · 05/04/2023 14:53

Electricians can do that, y'know.

Tricyrtis2022 · 05/04/2023 14:55

Arf! Yeah, well this one certainly did.
