Continuation of previous threads (thread 5).

Gather here all ye refugees from the JTT Flat Earth Society, welcome to the reassuringly oblate spheroid of MN! Ye all already know the answers to the questions "How the heck do I format my post?" "Why can't I edit my typos?" "What do those acronyms mean?" and most importantly, "Where is everybody that I used to know?"

So really we're all here just to chat randomly.

That’s Dottie’s daughter, who was herself named “Dotty” by her new owners. She did love her toys!

Kucinghitam · 03/04/2023 07:37

@CyanCrystalViolet Yes! That's the sort of style I remember of his writing, just not what I like.

@NotDrowningJustCrowing You poor thing, it's all happening to you Flowers I hope there is plenty of cat love (perhaps you could even borrow a couple of extra cats and be like @BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn's pile-of-cats-thread). I wholeheartedly agree about Christie. Now she's got a writing style that I love. (The DC actually got into her books first, having picked up a couple at the charity shop, and now we have loads).

@MavisMcMinty Squeeeeee!

Glorious spring sunshine yesterday, and this morning too. Here's my neighbour's magnificent magnolia and my beloved ornamental cherry blossom.

The cats on the chair look like multiple Djangos. He's been cloned! V cute dogs @MavisMcMinty !

@Kucinghitam magnolia is beautiful but nothing beats the beauty and joy of cherry blossom. To me cherry blossom looks like hope. Going to the Japanese cherry blossom festival in Japan.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 03/04/2023 11:24

I was in Japan for cherry blossom season a few years ago, and it was wonderful. So many different types, and the ones in the temple gardens all beautifully lit at night.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 03/04/2023 11:34

Pear and plum blossom also deserve a shoutout, though. Both fullly out in our garden at the moment.

A few years ago I dated someone briefly who did cherry blossom tour guiding every spring. In hindsight I shouldn’t have broken up with him in March 🤔

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 03/04/2023 12:38

Yes, that was poor timing.

MavisMcMinty · 03/04/2023 12:48

Such a gorgeous sunny day today! Hope it holds for the long weekend, we almost always have gorgeous sunny Easters in this bit of Devon. I’m expecting 36 assorted cosmos through the post any day now, first plants I’ve bought for ages, as I have never managed to grow decent cosmos from seed, don’t know why, I’m pretty green-fingered usually. In a few months the garden will be like this:

That's beautiful, Mavis!

Kucinghitam · 03/04/2023 13:42

I have garden envy, @MavisMcMinty!

Haha at @CyanCrystalViolet's poor romantic timing Grin

Today my bathroom people are MIA. Or AWOL. Whatever. There may have been some confusion because the main contractors have prepared the room for the tiler to come in this week. So I'm not sure whether it's the usual guys or the as-yet-unknown tiler who are MIA.

But it's DTDs' 14th birthday today and the sun is shining. I can't believe it's been 14 years!

Britinme · 03/04/2023 13:44

Happy birthday to them Kuc. I remember when they were still The Cells.

SinnerBoy · 03/04/2023 13:56

Happy birthday blastosomes!

Kucinghitam · 03/04/2023 14:11

If I tell them a bunch of randoms on the Internet are wishing them happy birthday, they'll give me the Hmm look for sure!

I think we're the same internet whack job well wishers as last year, but the venue is different!

Tricyrtis2022 · 03/04/2023 16:06

Best wishes to the twins, Kuc!

Lovely cats and blossom, it's very much the season for them.

Ginmonkeyagain · 03/04/2023 16:53

It's such a lovely day to day - so different from last week. Shame it is still freezing cold.

Caspar is a great looking cat - so expressive.

Tricyrtis2022 · 03/04/2023 17:04

Very expressive. I've realised what his gaze reminds me of, it's a project by Nina Katchadourian called 'Lavatory Portraits in the Flemish Style'. There's one where she has a similar upward gaze.

Lovely link here for those interested in 18th century battleships. My late (ten years older than me) brother was a guide on HMS Victory in the 60s and I have always enjoyed the books of Patrick O'Brien and C S Forester.

14 year old twins, @Kucinghitam ? How wonderful (though hard graft, I bet). Monoz or diz?

There was another poster on GUT in the old days who sort of disasappeared after she had twins. One of her usernames was vladimirillyich or something close. A lovely poster - wish I could remember her other name.

I always wanted twins for some reason. I always wanted a million kids as well, though! In fact, such was my youthful arrogance that I used to say I should be paid to father lots of them - offering as evidence the excellence of my children. ( Any geneticists present, kindly ignore the inherent assumptions here, which are wrong). And in case, they hit their teens shortly afterwards and my opinions were revised...

Tricyrtis2022 · 03/04/2023 18:47

I'm a twin, one of a m/f pair. One of the good things about many m/f twins - don't know about same sex ones - is that if they get on well then they look after each other. In all our early photographs, me and my brother are playing together and it's made for some good memories. We still look after each other today.

On cold sores - if you dab neat tea tree oil on them when they're forming, they don't blister.

Caveat: not everyone's skin gets along with neat tea tree.
