Would you be happy with a male masseur?

DH has recently told me he doesn't mind if I have a male or female masseur/masseuse. I was really surprised by this and am not sure I would want a male masseur. Would you be happy with one?

I prefer a female for my needs (although there are advantages to male strength, which has been a bonus other times). Most of my massages are due to lower back issues and the glutes get a lot of work. I would feel uncomfortable with a man doing that.

Don't care whether they have seen/ done loads. My body my choice.

Consent seems to matter everywhere apart from when females want female only care. Strange.

MsFogi · 01/03/2023 12:48

No - I once had a massage (in a beauty salon) by a man and could not relax at all, it didn't help that he grunted a lot.

MrsPotterings · 01/03/2023 12:48

SlippinKimmy That is terrible. I am so sorry 😰

It's literally their job. They touch hundreds of people of all shapes, sizes and sexes. I highly doubt they're having sexual thoughts. They'll be numb/desensitised by it.

So what? If they’re so numb to it, then they won’t mind females choosing other females for a massage. It won’t even cross their minds that there’s anything wrong with it.

FishFridayyaaay · 01/03/2023 12:54

No I (female) wouldn't be happy with a male masseur and I wouldn't like my male partner to have a female masseuse either.

MrsPotterings · 01/03/2023 12:54

FishFridayyaaay I think I feel the same.

It doesn't bother me in fact I think I prefer it

MrsPotterings · 01/03/2023 12:58

bellsbuss What do you prefer about it?

MaryJean87 · 01/03/2023 12:59

No, but then again I don't like massages from professionals either male or female. I can't relax.

Clymene · 01/03/2023 13:00

Why have you started two nearly identical threads on this?

FourTeaFallOut · 01/03/2023 13:00

No.

MrsPotterings · 01/03/2023 13:01

Clymene I didn't mean to! In my head they were quite different but they seem to have merged into one topic.

I would always choose a woman, preferably a well built, strong middle aged one who had been been doing the job for many years. I had one perfect Thai massage once from a woman just like that and feel like I've been chasing that dream experience ever since!

I don't think they do mind....has anyone implied they would?

I'm saying it's daft to assume they're all mind fucking their clients. They're probably thinking about their own shit.

I guess so. I am not talking about a sports or health massage but one that is meant to be purely relaxing/pleasurable.

I'm also talking about relaxing massages....why did you assume I had changed the subject to sports massages?

Kranke · 01/03/2023 13:06

I’ve only ever had a male masseur. I have a lot of trouble with sciatica and have had a lot of physio and deep tissue massages (focused on lower back, glutes, etc). I’ve never really considered the sex of the person doing it until now and it doesn’t bother me. I’ve only ever had one massage down for pleasure as part of a couples massage and that was by a woman and a male did my husband. I wasn’t that keen, didn’t find it very relaxing at all and wasn’t as firm as I’d like.

kittykarate · 01/03/2023 13:08

I've had massages by both male and female therapists. I am ok with a male masseur for back and shoulders only - anything full frontal and then I'm female only. In theory a male masseur should be able to give more pressure, but my strongest massages have been with women at a Lush Spa and once in a hotel.

I haven't had any terrible experiences with a male masseur though I felt very uncomfortable with one that seemed to voyage too far down my back for my comfort. My friend had a bad experience at a massage on holiday, where he basically was handling her breasts for a long time.

FrenchFancie · 01/03/2023 13:09

Depends on the type of massage to be honest - I’ve had both men and women over the years and do that men tend towards the heavier / sports massage side of thing. Mind you, the worst I’ve ever had was delivered by a Russian lady who went so deep I wound up with bruises!!

as for wether I’d think they were ‘looking’ at me in an inappropriate way - I’m a very overweight 40 -something, I’m sure I don’t feature on their radar. TBH it’s a bit like a doctor, I’m sure they see so many bodies that they don’t even notice the for ones, let alone my lumpy misshapen one!

MrsJBaptiste · 01/03/2023 13:16

TBH I've always presumed that if I went for a massage, it would be a man doing it 🤷‍♀️

Yes, I had a massage by a young skinny (size 6uk) woman who couldn't have been older than 23 with long beautifully done up nails in a spa and it was the worst. Strong forearms, sturdy built and short clean nails please.

FishFridayyaaay · 01/03/2023 13:20

I really dislike the connotation that inappropriate creepy behaviour and sexual assault by professionals is only saved for the conventionally attractive. @FrenchFancie There are children and elderly people assaulted, even dead people and in coma, it's not about what you look like and whether you deem yourself fanciable.

Loopyloooooo · 01/03/2023 13:20

If given a choice I'd probably prefer a female but not to the extent that I'd ask to swap if a male came in.

I don't mind whether DH has female or male ones (it's usually female).

TickledCrimson · 01/03/2023 13:21

When we went on holiday, we had a couples massage and a man and a woman came out. I naturally assumed the woman would massage me. Imagine my surprise when about 5 mins into the massage, I heard a male voice asking if the pressure was ok!! I mean, I was absolutely fine with it but I just thought it was a little odd.

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 01/03/2023 13:23

Years ago I had some massages with a gay male masseuse.

Let’s just say he let his hands wander a bit further than they should’ve done and I felt very awkward and didn’t return after that.

But I’ve used a male physio over lockdown who was excellent and great at that treatment.
