If you WFH.. how do you spend your lunch break?

I kind of miss office lunch breaks.. out for food with a colleague, nose in the shops, walk along the river..

At home sometimes I drag myself to the gym if I'm lucky enough to get a break that isn't sandwiched either side by meetings. Walking around our local area is dull and been done to death during covid, and when it's cold it's not appealing at all.

I find myself bored doing errands rather than having some downtime to recharge. Doesn't help that my partner is always here so I can't be selfish and do something I'd like.. he just has pure shite on the tv like bargain hunt while he sits there on his phone.. and I can't relax! I'd love to sit and read a book but he's too noisy 😅

Keen to know how others spend their break! (And before anyone says yet, yes I know sometimes we're lucky to get one at all - that's an entirely different issue 😅)

I get 30 mins so
Make and eat food
Toilet
Make a brew
Then it's back to work!

EllaPaella · 28/02/2023 12:44

I wfh one day a week
Mumsnet while eating lunch then I take the dog to the field at the top of my road for 20 minutes run round.

Neighneigh · 28/02/2023 12:45

I try to go for a walk but you've just reminded me I need to take the laundry out....

ErinAndTonic · 28/02/2023 12:45

Where I can I try and meal prep lunch ahead to allow myself some time, especially if it is a shorter lunch between calls.

I think I just get cabin fever and need to do something fun. I go into the office somewhere between once a week and once a month which is lovely, but my office is now at least 1hr 40 to 2 hours each way door to door, so not something I want to be doing too often either.

Home workout
Housework
Watch crap TV
Sunbathe in the garden with my book (not now obviously!)
Sleep
Go for a walk or run

RunTowardsTheLight · 28/02/2023 12:47

On the days I wfh, I like to go for a run in the morning and start work a bit late, then make up the time at lunchtime. Depending on how flexible your hours are.

mynewusername2023 · 28/02/2023 12:47

I WFH two days a week. I get an hour for lunch and eat my lunch in front of the TV watching an episode of a show I like (normally one DH doesn't watch).

flowerbob · 28/02/2023 12:48

Not sure my lunch break would be what you're after as I use it to keep on top of things in the house:

empty the dishwasher, put the washing on the line or in the dryer, prepare dinner (peel potatoes or prepare the mince for spag bol etc), get something to eat and drink, vacuum through downstairs, scroll Facebook/ Mumsnet/ Insta, go to the loo then usually straight into a meeting.

Whataretheodds · 28/02/2023 12:49

Sometimes I'm not disciplined about taking one.

Walk ( i try to drag myself out) sometimes with a friend locally, or with a podcast/ sit in the park and read/listen.
Spend too much time on mumsnet
Run errands
If partner home, shag, or get in each others' way if breaks don't align

IsAnybody · 28/02/2023 12:49

I'm on my lunch now. Cleaned the cat bowls and fridge out. Chucked washing in. Lunch was a coffee and a bag of monster munch!

LaFemmeDamnee · 28/02/2023 12:49

I usually WFH on a Monday and that's DH's day off, so we watch The Last Of Us and eat lunch in front of the TV. Yesterday he was at an appointment so I cleaned out the guinea pigs' cage instead. Fun.

ItsOKToFeelProud · 28/02/2023 12:49

Housework mainly, gardening, tip run, shopping etc

SameOldJunk · 28/02/2023 12:51

Most days I walk the dog. Today someone else did, so I filled the car with diesel.

It's not stop cock n roll here Grin

SameOldJunk · 28/02/2023 12:51

ROCK n roll.

The shame Blush

SimplySipping · 28/02/2023 12:52

I just like seeing my husband. Boring but true! Couldn't stomach Bargain Hunt but we normally watch a quiz show and chat. 10 min quick stroll out if we are feeling keen.

In your position maybe make up a packed lunch and take yourself out for a little walk with it.

Also you might feel better if you had a quick walk round the block before starting work in the morning. Like a mini commute!

Sunriseinwonderland · 28/02/2023 12:52

When I'm working from home which isn't often I have an hours nap on my bed and set the alarm. I am in my 60's though.

BooCrew · 28/02/2023 12:54

Gardening, local walk or bike ride (can go further on bike and get away from the lockdown routes), quick fresh food shop, or scroll Mumsnet and Insta and then regret wasting my lunch break.

Thanks for reminding me to get off my bum! 😂

I need to remember to do this more. My work are extremely flexible with adjusting hours to suit, and taking off any additional time you feel you need as long as you get the work done. Which in my role is tough, but it should take advantage of it as I constantly forget.

This will be me when MAFS Australia starts. Problem is we have only one TV in the house and he has to permanently have it on! It's like he gets the monopoly, and what he watches is pure shit! So then I never get chance 😅😅

I should really get one in one of the spare rooms.

Eat, sort laundry, walk the dog

Rainbowshit · 28/02/2023 13:05

Is there a friend nearby you could walk with?

ErinAndTonic · 28/02/2023 13:06

Are many of us having sex on our lunch breaks 😅😅 I have to say that is not high up on my agenda at that time! But then we have been together close to 20 years 😁

Not really no.. but I do have the opportunity to work from friends houses for the day which again I should remember to do more. When my mum retires soon she will be around for this. I do walk with my partner sometimes, we do get on, I promise 😅 I just feel like we are under each others feet when it's 24/7.
